    M1A

I was out at the range today sighting in, and there was another shooter there with a Springfield M1A .308. He let me try it out and I was very impressed. I was wondering if any members could clue me in as to what are the more desirable types, models, What stocks do people prefer? I see that they have a pistol grip stock for it (this one was not a PG model) does anyone have the PG stock, can you comment on it? Any barrel type/length recommendations? The one I tried had been rebarreled with a Krieger barrel and was VERY accurate.
  2. I think you should have a matched set. So I vote for paint.
  3. Anybody seen this, know anything about this? 7.62 bullpup, might be interesting. http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/rifles/rfb/
  4. I just ordered the SD 3gun trigger based on the recommendation of 98Z5V, so I have high expectations for it.
  5. did you go as far as checking to see if the problem was due to an oversize pocket, or a bad primer? So far I've had no problems with the cut down LC stuff, but I've been planning to try to get a hold of some 300BLK marked brass. As far as I know thats all coming from Remington right now, correct?
  6. I recently ordered a EC0120 tungsten AR-10 carbine buffer and EA1095 buffer spring from Armalite. I misread the specs and thought that the length of the buffer would work with my AR-15 carbine buffer tube. Obviously, it will not (too long) I believe this is the buffer that you use whith the AR-10 carbine buffer tube. I could send this back to Armalite but the restocking fee is $25. I thought I'd see if any other members had a use for it first. I paid $38 for the buffer and $6 for the spring, plus shipping. I'm asking $34 shipped.

    So, which is your favorite?
  8. Great stuff, Ive been using it on locked up motoers and such on the bikes for years. It also works good for breaking stuff loose on machinetools.
  9. Don't know anything about the PRIVI ammo so can't comment on that, But I'd consider myself lucky that the idiot didn't do any damage to your upper receiver. And look at the bright side, now you have a legitimate excuse to go buy a Bravo large handle or Badger. The one that comes on the MA TEN is too small anyway. I'd like to replace mine but since it works I always seem to have other parts that I need more.
  10. I was looking at the ACOG 6X48, but it's almost 2 lbs, besides being crazy expensive. I think figuring out glass for these guns is harder for me than any other component choices.
  11. Thanks, I'm going to get out to the range this week to sight it in and test it. Hopefully it will do what I intended.
  12. With your FFtube and the Ace stock I think you me make your target weight. Now I'M getting excited to see it and hear how it shoot's.
  13. Jmoto, You mentioned trying a PRI adjustable if it fits. I don't know of any other adjustable gas block out there that is any smaller. If you can't fit the PRI because of the boss on the side where the adjustment screw is located, I think that your going to have to replace the hand guard if you want to run one. The other thing you may have to keep in mind is that even if it fits under whatever hand guard you use, Your most likely still going to have to makes a hole in the side of the handguard in order to have access to the adjustment screw without removing the hand guard. That is of course assuming that you go with a handguard that covers the GB vs one that ends right behind. I saw one of these adjustable steel GBs on a gun and thought they looked interesting, but they don't appear to be as small as the PRI although they are steel. http://secure.adpay.com/clicknbuy.aspx? p=2079&itemid=2541516&networkview=False&catid=5500&pcatid=500MS&procid=aa3588af-7a29-45de-bb9d-66e4dd5714d1

Nice looking gun, I bet it conceals well. Your going to have to let us know how accurate it is. I have a Colt compact, which is the basic 3.5" 45 auto loader, and an enhanced officers. I was shocked to find that the compact outshoots the officers. I guess every once in a while you come across a gun that just shoots better than it should. Good luck with it.
  15. Your braver than I am, painting a gun that appears to be in perfect condition. Regarding the accuracy, I've built a a.308 AR with an 18" match barrel that I'm hoping will give me good groups down the road when I'm willing to take the time to work up loads and practice with it. OH, AND get around to dropping the coin on a high quality optic for it. Right now I find that I tend to lean more towards the tactical matches. Also, it's my understanding that to really consider yourself to be reasonably skilled at shooting a .308 at distance, you need to work out to 5-600 yds, and I've only got access to 200yds where I live. Some of the guys I shoot with are getting involved with F class long range shooting, and have purchased high end (read high priced) bolt guns for that purpose, but the nearest places to really work on your skills for that kind of shooting (that I know of) are in PA. and I'm not ready to drive down to PA in order to practice (at least not yet). I think if your future plans put you in TX your likely to have access to some nice long distance ranges to really develop your skills.
  16. It's just mob mentality. People do things in groups that they would never think of doing alone. LOL!
  17. Are you talking about 6 to 24 power or 6X24? I took a look on Bushnell's site and only find the 6-24X40 and 6-24X50 tactical. Which do you have and how do you like it?
  18. You talking about counting ounces, or ridiculously expensive barrels?
  19. I can't wait to see the completed rifle. Do you have your rec set and BCG from SI Defense yet? Doesn't he need the bolt to headspace the barrel? Also, I don't remember what hand guard you went with, or which stock, but my build came in just over 8lbs with Larue rail(18 oz) and CTR stock, with empty mag and iron sights. It should be interesting to see if your able to get it under 8lbs. I think the 1 inch shorter barrel is going to make the rifle swing better. I really like the way a 16" AR feels compared to an 18". By the way did he give you a estimate on how soon it will be ready?
  20. I was wondering, If I were to replace the adjustable power scope on one of my guns with a fixed power of 10X or less, wold the fixed power be less sensitive to eye relief? Is the narrow eye relief range a product of the magnification or is it brand or type dependent? I see that Trijicon has a 6X ACOG. Do any members have one? Can anyone recommend a fixed power scope in the 6X to 10X range that is forgiving with regards to eye relief?
  21. I haven't ever had a chance to try the Vltor. Have you seen the Troy I think it's called the Battle AX stock? I'm thinking about testing one of those. I also, don't carry spares on my gun so don't need the storage, but it looks like it might have a good cheek rest, kind of like the ACS. If one of the other members is using the Troy, perhaps he could give his impression of it?
  22. I originally tried it mounted on one of those add on 45 degree picatinny rails. Two things I noticed right away, first it wasn't in the right place, so I would have to reset my cheek weld, and the other was that it looked like it was very vulnerable to damage from barricades and such way out front there. I didn't bother to try one of those DD 45 rails for that reason, it would still be very easy to hit it on something up front there, even if it was In a better place as far as viewing . I have an Eotec XPS with a piggyback magnifier on an AR 15 , and that's a pretty good setup, but You still have to take your left hand off the handguard to flip it in or out of place, The same thing goes for changing the magnification on the Accupoint, some of my friends have those cat tails to speed that up, but you still have to move your weak hand off the guard to change it. The beauty of this setup is that all you do is roll the gun when moving from close targets to long shots. Of course everything always works perfect on paper. I guess I'll know if it works for me once I try it in the match. Another thing I find is that a small red dot without much to see around the lens seems to disappear for me while shooting and I just see the dot on the target, while a tube type scope doesn't do that as much. That may just be something I would need to train with to get used to. No matter what, it's always fun to test out all these different designs.
  23. I just heard about this one, haven't even read the article yet, anyone know anything a bout it? http://www.tactical-life.com/online/guns-and-weapons/magpuls-new-massoud-762mm/
  24. First off, welcome to the forum. The members here will be more than happy to help you window shop for a new .308 AR. And your right, there are a lot of choices, which just means that you'll need more than one. I think the other posts address the trade offs of bench rest vs hunting tactical guns, but I thought I might suggest you take a look at the new 7.62 AR from GA Precesion. If youve been around bolt guns for a while you probably know of them. They have made some really incredable benchrest bolt guns for a couple of my friends, If their AR is built to the same standard I don't know how you could go wrong, and it falls right into your price range. www.gaprecision.net
  25. I've got a 3 gun match in a couple of weeks and I've decided to use my MA TEN carbine. This match is apparently run very casually so they are not differentiating between major and minor, as far as I know everyone will just be divided between production, tactical and open. My shotgun automatically puts me in open so I'm allowed 2 optics. I saw a 45 degree mount for the doctor/sts sights but I have something else so I made this mount for my setup. It's not very pretty but, I'm pretty sure it's going to make it faster for me when transitioning between close rand and long targets, vs adjusting the magnification on my Acupoint. I'm hoping this will help me to and hold my own with the AR-15 race gun guys.
