my LR308 build (99% done)
planeflyer21 replied to SwissyJim's topic in DPMS LR-308 | Bushmaster 308 Pictures
You should be fine with any .308 Winchester chambered in a good modern barrel. Where the issues really start coming out in the larger caliber is 1950s surplus 7.62x51NATO chambered rifles with .308 Win spec ammo. Jon -
Working at the prison one of the more popular meals was chili and their version of cornbread, really more like a cake made with corn flour. Those there from the South knew what I was talking about when I'd ask "Where's the real cornbread?" Jon

I wonder if the flash hole on boxer-style brass would provide enough of a crushing surface without an anvil at all, in a berdan primer. Jon
-
That it does, look time consuming. Put it under the "good to know for when they ban ammo" folder. Jon
-
Oh, seasprite...so berdan primer in a regular boxer case with an anvil from a used boxer primer. Hhmmm... Have you seen this? Jon

Does anyone here have a pinned Magpul ACS?

Surely someone around here could guide you through a judicious application of JB Weld. Jon -
I know a few older guys that, having perfected what they do, are able to load a couple of hundred rifle rounds per hour on a single stage. They can't get much higher than that on an autopress, so they stick with the single for quality. Jon
-
Yup. And I don't recall it in that video but I've had old timers tell me the size is just a tiny bit off. The berdan may stay put or it may want to wiggle out. Some stated they just put clear fingernail polish on it and the primer stays until you reload the brass again. Jon

MAG-TEC .308 AR 20-ROUND MAGAZINES IN STOCK

Hell, I don't know...I've seen ads for the followers but I have no mags to rebuild, so I don't pay attention. Jon -
An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, 'we're not coming out until you leave!' The old man frowned, 'I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.' Holding the bucket up he said, 'I'm here to feed the alligator....' Jon

Robo, Tom wouldn't want that. He has a Jeep in a Tuffshed someplace. Jon

You found berdan primers? If you look down in your case, there will be two holes that are symetrically off center. Any case that is brass should accept the berdan. Check the other threads on here, there is a video posted of a dude that came up with a way to remove the berdan primers without needing the $70 RCBS tool. Jon

Dang assault shovels! Took the dog for a walk in the river bed this morning, on her extension leash. Between rabbits and birds, it was like having a june bug with a string tied to its leg. Jon

I'd have shown mine! You guys are lucky to have me around. Jon

I wonder how they'd do with MagPul followers. Jon -
What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?

KC we're going to need pics of that M&P10! Lots. And lots! Jon -
Ha! I got the last two in stock! Welcome to the waiting list! Jon

Check the HazMat fees too. Some retailers charge more. Jon

Not a bad choice. Heed the following advice closely. Read and follow the instructions!! Twice!! Plus YouTube videos on the Pro1000!! When it says "Manually load only one case at a time until you are familiar with the process," do exactly that. Now, you can experiment with squashing primers sideways, getting stuck in the feedway, and being installed in the case upside-down, or you can get a hand primer and do it right all the time. I have two Pro1000s and they work great at cranking out ammo. Avoid large flake powders, as they don't like to be metered on auto presses in small quantities. Win231 and Lil'Gun meter extremely well! Red Dot is acceptable for anything over 5 grains load. Trail Boss meters well too. Jon

Ordered one of these from Army Navy Superstores. The bag is well built, rubber covered canvas bottom, horizontal in its orientation, with a full-length zippered top running between the two generous handles. It is about 2/3s longer than what I'm currently using for "range bags". It also has 3 zippered side pockets on one side. The the zippered side pocked are pretty thin. On the ends there are also some more voluminous expanding pockets that are topped with a velcro flap-top. Pretty happy...until initial pocket inspection. On either end side pocket (i.e., not the one in the middle) grasping the zipper pull tab between index finger and thumb and applying enough torque to pull a small nylon zipper, resulted in the zipper tab shattering (a better description than snapping) into multiple pieces between my two digits. After the first one shattered, I was even more surprised when the second tab shattered even easier, being even thinner than the first. Overall that's a really small complaint for a bag that appears to be well built. For $32 it is twice as big as what shooters' suppliers are selling as "range bags" for $70 (the kind that hold a couple of headsets, safety glasses, a couple of boxes of ammo, and two bagged/holstered pistols). It has a good generic olive drab color with the black bottom (all black was the only other option). For me this will hold regularly four pistols, multiple sets of safety gear and classroom tools, instructor manuals and student kits for class days, six to eight pistols (or three rifles), ammunition and targets, and safety gear for range days. The bags I've been using were free "overnight sports bags"...one from opening a bank account about 11 years ago, one as a team-building perk at my wife's former job. We'll see if this duffle bag can hold up. Jon

^^^^ Those 2 posts above. Either one of those starter kits will keep you going for years. Jon
