Most of the well paid non-union workers were given intolerable terms to relocate to Ilion, NY, to accept a union job that pays less. Marlin had purchased NEF/H&R years prior to the Freedom Group purchase. Over on Marlin Owners, many of the former employees are looking to start a new company making the same rifles...since the QC after the "Remington" take over has plummeted. Not one employee in CT moved, as they had to pay for their own move, pay was cut in half, lost seniority, then had to join the union at Big R if they did move. Too bad...a turtle can tell the difference in the quality between my CT-built levers and the only one made in Ilion. I won't purchase another. Jon

They did about the same time as the Oklahoma City Bombing. Flyers started appearing around Special Forces bases, stating "When the poop goes down, sit tight. We'll find you and train you. We are Americans first!" Or something to that effect. Jon

following the "have you read thread" Do you read, if so what?
planeflyer21 replied to SPBCTS's topic in General Discussion
For firearms folks: Anything by David Grossman or Jeff Cooper. Deadly Force Encounters by Dr. Alexis Artwohl. General reading: America B.C. by Dr. Barry Fell, highlights various discoveries in the Americas demonstrating without a doubt that there was pre-Columbian travel around the world, much of it well before Christ. Operation Overflight by Francis Gary Powers, the autobiographical account of his being recruited by the CIA for the U-2 program, ultimately being shot down over the USSR. Black Sheep Squadron by Greg "Pappy" Boyington, another autobiography he starts by relating his being recruited into General Chenault's Flying Tigers, prior to the USA entering WWII. The Real Rescue Of BAT 21 (forget the author), dozens of interviews about the real events surrounding the movie BAT 21. A Douglas EB-66 ELINT bird was shot down over Vietnam, and the surviving full-bird Colonel had knowledge of everything...from our codes to our nuclear defenses to weaknesses in our radar coverage. Full court press to rescue this guy. Entertainment: Any of the All Creatures Great And Small books by James Herriot. You will laugh...hysterically, with tears streaming down your face and little squirts of urine. One great communicator and writer. Scientific: Kon Tiki and also Aku Aku, both by Thor Hyerdahl. Thor and a team of scientists built a raft out of balsa wood logs and sail across the Pacific Ocean, to test the theory that Polynesia was initially inhabited by immigrants from South America. Aku Aku documents Thor and team's efforts to solve the mystery of the giant statues on Easter Island. Anything by Tom Clancy. Anything by Dean Koontz. Swan Song by Robert McCammon. A post-apocalyptic fight between good and evil. Geeky Stuff: Anything to do with various types of machining...metal cutting, turning, spinning, punching, bending, stretching, properties of metals. Anything to do with alternative power/engines. Jon -
I don't know...they're all full of crap. Got a message from a bro on another forum, said the guy that did the clip I removed pulls the same crap as the media...editing out favorable bits, making it inflammatory. So I pulled it, when I realized the reporter said "The shooter had tried to buy a second rifle earlier this week." That means it was from the 15th or 16th. Still hang 'em all! Jon
-
I fixed my original post and removed the link, as it was originally aired Friday or Saturday the week of the shooting it looks like. Jon
-
EDIT: Removed the clip. When watching it again, the reporter said "Earlier this week the shooter tried buying." Older than I thought. They still need hanging though. No rifle was used in the Sandy Hook shooting, 2 more handguns were used for a total of 4 (confirming my suspicions that a small town medical examiner has no experience in rifle shootings). The shooter attempted to purchase a second rifle on Dec. 11 but was flagged under the current background check system. Finally, on Dec. 13 the shooter went to the school where the shooting took place and got into a verbal confrontation with staff. This, IMO, is a failure of the system in place already or blatent incompetence and deriliction of duty of public officials in the area (the mother of the Tucson shooter had used connections prior to keep her son out of the system, may be the same here...just speculating). Those that are using this even to further their political agenda are below scum and deserve nothing less than to be hanged publicly by the neck, until dead. Every politician, every reporter, every newsanchor, every bureaucrat. Jon

How many of you have read Unintended Consequences?
planeflyer21 replied to Magwa's topic in General Discussion
No, but I've read multiple excerpts from the book. One of the most disturbing is how the NRA and the domestic firearms industry jumps onboard for certain firearms legislation, which ends up biting them in the ass later on. Jon -
Ah, ok. "...which may be used in a handgun and which are constructed entirely from one or a combination of ____" I contend that nearly any may be used in a handgun, as BATF has been known to use a T/C Encore in pistol-mode. "Alloy" is a HUGE little word, that is defined as such: alloy noun |ˈaˌloi| a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements, esp. to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion: an alloy of nickel, bronze, and zinc | flat pieces of alloy | [ as modifier ] : alloy wheels. • an inferior metal mixed with a precious one. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/industry/dad-richardson-opening-statement-at-ap-ammunition-listening-meeting.pdf This ^^^^ is linked off the original link I'd posted. Scroll down to page 2 and we can see where this was amended by Ronnie Reagan, when he signed the FOPA in 1986. It also says in the last paragraph “which the Attorney General finds is primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes.” I don't trust the current AG. Page 3 "However, in developing a narrow sporting purposes test, ammunition in traditional hunting calibers will become regulated. Because of the proliferation of new, larger handgun calibers ATF must review the current sporting purposes test for armor piercing ammunition." bullpoopy. Just look at who is in charge. Notice also that suggestion submissions MUST be in Word or PDF format, and no larger than 10MB in size. Jon

Yeah...un-hunh. ::) I'll make it easy for you...just 100 passengers. That's one BIG fricken' motocicleta bro! <lmao> Dude...I guarantee you our government is shittin' right now over this. China can now haul dissidents to death camps WAY faster than they can! Jon

This is one that the "undocumented worker" crowd likes to argue..."But they're humans!" Wait a minute--human rights are NOT constitutional rights...quit mashing the two up. And if you truly believe that the two are one, then all I have to say is "Self-defense is a basic human right!" Jon

Actually Shepp, in AZ we can hunt with slingshots. <thumbsup> Just no big things, like deer. Pappy1600, hunh? Jon

That was McCarthy (D), New York State Representative, in response to the question "Do you even know what a barrel shroud is?" Which was a surprise in itself, that a reporter would even have a clue. Which is worse...the politician, those that elected them, or that We still believe it is the ballot box that chooses those already selected? Jon

So...Britain has responded to the "Deport Piers Morgan" petition: http://minutemennews.com/2012/12/british-petition-govt-we-dont-want-piers-morgan-back/ Jon

The USA is broke. Not going to come close to matching this unless we do slave labor and artificially boost the dollar. ::) http://news.yahoo.com/worlds-longest-fast-train-line-opens-china-121838743--finance.html I'd like to say, 186mph is COOKIN' along! Jon

ATF is looking at redefining "armor piercing ammuntion". What they want is to label anything that can punch through a Level IIA vest. In other words, nearly ALL centerfire rifle ammo! http://www.atf.gov/firearms/industry/ Open for public comment until December 31, 2012!!! Jon

This isn't the first time a paper has done this. There was a newspaper in Virginia that pulled this crap after the VT shooting. They got spanked pretty hard IIRC. Jon

If there is such a thing as gold-plated bacon, it would be priceless. Just stating fact. There are folks asking me where to get stuff. I'm telling them "Just get a bolt-action and work on your marksmanship skills." <laughs> Jon -
When the infamous "29 Palms" test was conducted, IIRC less than 15% would have complied with orders to confiscate firearms and arrest citizens refusing to comply. Never a group to give up, supposedly the most recent surveys conducted show a much more willing and pliable military. Jon

Even better: Jon
