All along Armalite has said the AR10 magazines are "modified" M14 magazines. Exactly how are they modified? What is done to them to make them fit an AR10?

That load you quote is way too much. Sierra lists 41.5 IMR 4895 as the max with their 175BTHP, and in private correspondence their loading experts have told me to max out at one step below their listed max for gas rifles, so that would be 40.3 grains of IMR4895. Back off the charge weight a bit and you should be okay.

This is exciting, especially after viewing your website and seeing you'll soon have a jig available.

Go to the Brownells website and look for the online videos on how to build an AR. The film clips detail the barrel installation among other things. It takes about an hour and is well worth it.

It's an intriguing new powder, and I've had good luck with most Hodgdon powders, but did you look at the load listed for a 168 gr. BTHP in e .308/7.62... 49 grains! For most powders in the burn range suitable for a gas gun this is a huge charge. That almost doesn't surprise me, as the charges listed in Hodgdon's website calculator are generally way past the max for gas guns both from my experience and from other reloading companies websites (Sierra, Hornady, Ramshot, etc.) Don't get me wrong. I like Hodgdon powders, and I hope this powder is the next best thing since sliced bread. But use caution.

I've been loading for steel and wood rifles for a long time, but am at the beginning of the learning curve for all aspects of the .308AR platform. Are there any major reloading differences from M14s, or complications in the needs of the ammunition for a 308AR? I really like AA2520 and more recently TAC for the .308. Varget was good on accuracy but I found it produced too much gas and hard recoil for my M14. I don't see any reason to unnecessarily beat myself up. Thoughts?

My neighbor researched and bought one after he saw me reloading with my ancient but excellent RCBS 4x4. He unboxed it, set up the frame then lost interest and sold it. <dontknow> It was a beautifully machined piece of equipment. I've seen plenty of youtube films on it and it looks first rate, especially the die bushings you can use for quick caliber changes. I don't think you can go wrong.

Haven't had a moofy in a long time. How do you know about them?

Quartz, orthoclase, albite, smectite and illite. The stuff that makes up most of our oil-producing rocks down here. ;D

Greetings. Just joined this great looking forum while doing research for a .308 AR (okay, I was surfing.) I've been a Garand and M14 shooter for 25+ years, and although had a NM AR15 tucked away I never really used it :cookoo:. After shooting the AR15 a bunch this past year, I found how easy it is to get great groups with it. So, the .308AR is the next step. Hope to get all your feedback before making a purchase.
