  1. Still piecing together all my parts for a SI-Defense based build. Being a left hander, I'm a little concerned about picking out a stock that is made for righties only (you know, kind of like some of the cheek rests made for the M14). Are there any that I should avoid? I'd like an adjustable LOP type stock, Any recommendations? TIA.

    M1 Garand

Blasphemey! No, no, no. You ruined it. Better send it to me for rehab and TLC as it will never be right now. BLO or Tung oil, man.
  3. In the space of just two days, I received a call from a lgs that he had .308 lower parts kits available. Just looked on Midway and see they too have .308 lpk available. Then I get an email from Rainier saying they have Mega matched upper/lowers available! Wow. Maybe things are beginning to loosen up.
  4. I see from their website they are not expecting any until May 1. Wellll, we'll see.
  5. What are the pros and cons of mounting the front iron sights on the gas block or on the front end of a free-floating handguard. I've seen it both ways,
  6. Bummer. Looks like a mid summer build.
  7. I like that front handguard. Who's is it? Specs?
  8. From "The Empire Strikes Back". Lea: "I love you." Han Solo: "I know."
  9. I don't usually go the confrontatory route, but that is one of the ugliest rifles I've ever seen! Definately a "two-bagger". <laughs>
  10. I like the front handguard/rail. Which one is it?
  11. I'm going to give you a good "compromise". I put it in quotes because it is not a compromise at all. Get the Dillon BL550. It's a manual progressive. Learn to load on this, then down the road (months, years, whatever) you can get the gizmos to upgrade it to the RL550. It is the same in layout to the discontinued RCBS 4x4. I have been loading on an RCBS 4x4 for >20 years. I can load 200 rounds/hour still doing quality control. You can start with a manual powder thrower in one position but get the auto primer set up. That's nice. Not trying to talk you out of the RL650, but I've seen a number of folks get in over their heads right off the bat with presses like that and give up in frustration. You can't go wrong with any of the Dillon progressive presses. Post pics when you get it set up.
  12. Sharp build. I do like that handguard.
  13. Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy the four seasons we have down here... Mardi Gras, crawfish, hurricane and football. ;)
  14. These Aquila 60 grain subsonics don't work in a S&W model 41. There's not enough power to cycle the slide.
  15. It still happens. I once let my children watch my favorite episode "The Production and Decay Of Strange Particles". Nightmares for several nights, no sleep for me.
  16. I really like the Mega mono rifle length system. When it comes time to build mine, I think that's the way to go.
  17. Varget is/has become, somewhat quietly, the go to powder for most gas guns. It is exceptional in both the 30-06 Garand and M14 with 168 grain bullets, and is widely used in the 5.56 ARs. You really can't go wrong with it. I love my ball powders (AA2520 and TAC) for the ease of loading and the accuracy in my rifles, but in my M1, Varget rules.
  18. Actually, an 80mm Stellarvue with a 2" focuser. When I can't shoot targets I look at the sky.
  19. If you're reloading rifle calibers, get a case gauge!!! $15-$20, cheap insurance to not blow up a rifle from improper case sizing. You'll thank me. ;D
  20. Will this work for me?
  21. RCBS is good like that. They have replaced parts on my 20+ year old 4x4 for free, they've replaced a few reloading die items that broke for free as well. Great products, great service. You can't go wrong.
  22. Watched the show a few times. It leaves me cold. There are better things to do (clean the coils on the 'fridge, get a root canal.)
  23. I understand that the free floated handguard pretty much eliminates barrel flex. I was worried about ripping the free floated front end off its mount. After all, it's just a couple twists of very fine threads holding it on, right?
  24. Still in my long-term planning for a .308AR. One thing I'm struggling with is to free-float or not to free-float the barrel. Most of my rifle shooting is with a 1907 leather sling, cinched up as tight as I can get it. I've never shot a free-floated AR style rifle but I hefted a few at a LGS recently. The movement was minor, but there was enough movement in them to make me think free floated front ends aren't going to take a tight sling very well. Besides, the stove pipe free floated handguards are ugly (okay, to me.) Is there a free float handguard for the .308ARs that will stand up to a sling?
  25. Haven't had too many trips to the range lately, so pulling this out cheers me up. This is in my EA NM AR15. 4207_.pdf
