  1. That is a seriously slow powder, way slower than W760 which is also generally considered too slow for gas rifles. I'd be VERY careful to use it in a gas rifle. For bolt action, go for it.
  2. I've researched, "found" and purchased several EDC knives in the last year. I really like the Spyderco Mannix 2 lightweight. It's really light, full flat grind is exceptionally sharp and the ball bearing lockup is solid. Also, the Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 is a great choice. The tri-ad lock can't be beat. Both have great grippy handles and are much less than $100. If you want something bigger, get the full sized CS Recon, or the CS Lawman. Both are excellent all 'round knives.
  3. With the help of a retired Marine armorer, I finally got my SI Defense based AR308 assembled. The only trouble seems to be with the single Pmag I have the bcg won't stay open. My lower parts kit is an off the shelf DPMS. Has anyone else had trouble with the stock bolt catch in their build? If so, is it the mags? (I've got two metal Stoner mags on the way), or is an aftermarket bolt catch the answer? Whose?
  4. Saints eat excrement. What a shabby game.
  5. A complete set of CDs of the Police Academy movies. ::)
  6. Saints are a headcase. If they don't think they can win, they don't play well. Don't get me wrong, I want them to win, but they have no running game, the "O" line sucks, an inconsistent kicking game, special teams are, well, rather "special", and despite outstanding individual game performances as Colsten just had, the receiver corps has lost a few steps. It's going to be an uphill struggle for them.
  7. <laughs> Oh, that's just wrong!
  8. Pro football has reached its nadir. I can't tell when it will begin to decline at the gate, but it will, and I think within the next 5 years. BTW, what's not to understand about rugby. It's pretty straight forward. Bang up your head, separate your shoulder, cheer the ref when the game is over and go out and drink beer with your opponent. What's the problem?
  9. I'm so tired of the wussy PC crap from the NFL. Just who do they think is their audience?
  10. /\ /\ Business and fun. Leave the drama to those "other" clown forums.
  11. Heads up for you. Wideners has 1x-fired mil 7.62x51 brass for sale $50/500. That's a good price. Also Midsouthshooterssupply.com has both AA2495 and AA4064. Get is while it's hot.
  12. Welcome aboard. I'm going to be the recalcitrant hold out on this. Don't do anything to your new rifle. Just lube it up and take it out and shoot the thing. There is no point in screwing with a new rifle until you verify it works properly. Shoot first, accessorize later.
  13. Ha ha ha. Another life is now wasting away in the reloading room. You think the costs are exhorbitant for AR308s? Wait until you have 17 different powders, 10 different bullets, a dozen different primers and some manuals to pour over. It never ends! <lmao>
  14. Spillage seems to be centered over the east coast...
  15. That last sentence is the key. You can make crappy ammo with a single stage just as easily as you can with a progressive... just not as fast. I'll load anywhere from 150-200 rounds/hour of rifle caliber, not going fast, checking COAL every 5 or 10 rounds, powder throw weight every 20 or so rounds, and using a case gauge regularly to ensure your rounds are going to fit. With a manual progressive it's easy to stop at any time and check all the stations if something doesn't feel right. It's not difficult and I don't break a sweat this way. Now, this does not include the time for case prep. That's a whole 'nother story. In addition to the press (get the Dillon :)) ) get a case gauge for each caliber you load. Take your time and you'll put out great ammo.
  16. Get a Dillon BL550. It's a manual progressive. No silly Rube Goldberg linkages, just a solid press. You can load anything short of a 50BMG. I have the RCBS equivalent, it's the only press I've ever owned and it's still going strong after 25+ years. Progressive beats single stage every time. Let the flames begin.
  17. No. Should have said "contacted". It was an email response to their website form. Wish now I'd saved it. He was adamant that only their "AR" series had a taper crimp built in.
  18. I did a little more research into this, and called RCBS. Just to clarify, only their AR-series dies have the taper crimp built in.
  19. Okay, got a Bison Armory 20" AR308 barrel. They were on sale :)) so I thought I'd splurge and get the $40 black Cerekote option (after all, it is a black rifle). Pictures don't do this barrel justice. The machining on it is impeccable. The breech looks as if it was hand finished and polished. Fit with the upper and the Syrac adjustable gas block is perfect. The gas hole is 11" from the lip, so a 12" or longer free float handguard will easily cover the gas block but I'll probably go with a 15" for the longer sight radius. I am really impressed.
  20. Audio books are a great idea. I had to make a lot of 11+ hour drives this year, and I used it as an opportunity to "read" a bunch of classics I'd always wanted to get to ("The Hunchback Of Notre Dame", "The Scarlet Letter", some other really high-brow stuff), and for levity, "Fawlty Towers". I laughed so hard I almost ran off the road. Dangerous stuff! <laughs> BTW, Sirius radio is a great alternative to normal radio. It's worth it.
  21. Non-quad. Update: I received an email from Samson Manufacturing. Their soon to be released AR308 Evolution free float will fit the Syrac clamp-on gas block. That's great news, as it was one I was hoping to fit. They still couldn't give me a release date, so it might be a near-term pipe dream.
  22. Okay, so I may have jumped the gun and got a 0.750" Syrac adjustable clamp on gas block for my 20" Bison 308 barrel. Now I'm trying to pick a handguard, and am finding my choices somewhat limited. I'd been hoping for the MI Gen2 SS when it became available, but today they informed me it wouldn't fit over any clamp on gas block. I'm disappointed, but life goes on. Who has used the Syrac .750" clamp on, and what handguard did you fit over it? I'm now looking at the Troy TRX 13.8", JP 15.5" and the Apex 15". Any other non-quad free floats I missed under $250?
  23. God Bless it worked out!
  24. I did not know that. Good info, as I have lots of RCBS rifle dies. I always turned any rifle seating die body down until it just kissed the case neck, just to ensure an infinitesimal crimp, nothing more.
  25. In doing more research for a barrel for my SI build, I came across Bison Armory barrels. There have been a few posts here, all favorable. Anyone want to elaborate on their Bison AR308 barrels? Alright, update time. Everything I saw on the net (yes, it's all believable <laughs> ) said the Bison Armory barrels were GTG. That said, I'd decided to go with what was available, a 20". Low and behold, this AM they announced a sale on the barrels. Put the order in by web, so in a week or two it should be here. I asked for it to be black coated. Should be awesome looking.
