308 does not kick.. if anyone thinks that it is a hard kicker then I have no clue what their pain tolerance is .... in fact I don't know of any short cases that kick untill you get into the short mags then a little 338 win mag kicks .. 308 and 4570 are more of a shove I sight all my M4 type guns in at 36 yards having done so I am good from 0 to 300 with a red dot and it works like a charm I also think a red dot would not be hard at 500 , I also do not know of many people at all that use AGB's I never have on my DPMS and I have shot it with carbine stock and rifle buffer setups and it works flawlessly with either and canned or not canned... maybe I am just lucky the biggest improvement to me was soaking all my BCG's in mobile one synthetic oil after a couple of weeks they became smooth as a fresh shaved beaver.... ask tom he likes beavers....hold on the other half is screaming that means only one thing RATTLESNAKE! back in a min. yep a big one for around here I will catch him and take a pic...

then you would love my NOT stock DPMS that with out loaded mag is just a bit over 9 I paid 1 grand for it 7 years ago and it will ring steel all day long at 500 hundred that is a chip shot.. and with a 16 inch barrel.....

I stopped watching at 1.min that is a 8 grand Plus gun just the optic is over 3500 way over my pay grade I don't even Dream that big... But I own a DPMS and I shoot it at whatever distance I want and it hits pretty much whatever I want and kills elk and deer.... welcome to the forum from NC my home state.. but i left there 40 plus years ago let me tell you straight up the folks on this sight can build whatever you can imagine... pay attention and hide your credit cards till you have been here over a year then you will have the sickness and it won't matter.... 🙂 I have carried drug and packed this gun up hill down hill through water and I am going to tell you this right now THE FuKERS ARE HEAVY! with glass and loaded mag if you are lucky 10 and 1/2 to 11 lbs mine is a 16 inch barrel and with can on becomes a 24 inch barrel mine will shoot suppressed or not either way with zero malfunctions but it is way to long to do CQB the Grendel that 98 suggested to you is a good option but if you are going to hunt in open or semi open country the 308, 260 REM, or 6.5 Creedmoor are all good choices for that but they would suck at defending your castle..... you will need more than one....

Then get used to a 11 or 12 lb rifle that is the game you are playing the biggest way to get light is shorten the barrel and slim profile these guns are heavy and in truth you gain very little by having a long barrel unless you are just going to shoot it off the bench , but if you plan to hunt etc a shorter barrel will really balance the rifle and if you every want to add a suppressor you will not want that long barrel I shoot a 16 out to 700 yards very well and have taken elk to 376 yards all with 16 inch barrel .the gun in the pics below weighs just over 9 lbs with 16 inch barrel and other mods including hand gaurd.

It is only superior untill you go to buy ammo better tote your reloading stuff along with ....LOL it is a great cartridge if you are a reloader.... other than that they are just about twins..

I own a Gen 2 6.5 CM it is way better than me but I have had some amazing days on the steel range with it I shoot suppressed and I had one 3 shot group at 1276 yards 18 by 14 steel square I hit it two out of three shots in 10 seconds... 26 inch barrel//. I love it
