  1. I'm currently reading "The Real Lincoln" by DiLorenzo. Every chapter I read gets me more and more pizzed off about my education. From Amazon's description of this book:
  2. Ah crap, I screwed this up. I don't have an Apex, I have an AP Custom hand guard. Sorry for all the confusion. http://www.apcustomusa.com/standard.php
  3. Yes. 100%. I have the round one and replaced a DPMS carbon hand guard in order to try it. I like the light weight. It's a full ounce lighter than the DPMS/Clark unit. I like having the cooling vents and the mounting holes. I don't care for the slight reduction in rigidity compared to the DPMS/Clark. Either it's the thinner layup or the way the three screws secure it, but pressure applied to the top of the Apex hand guard can cause the inside of the carbon tube to touch the gas block. With a DPMS/Clark tube it's simply not possible to do this. Now, does this matter? Not sure that it makes a difference.
  4. Nice thing about the Mega .308 upper is that it takes AR-15 handguards.
  5. Tried both in .556 and they both work good. I bought the large by mistake before I realized it wasn't legal. Then bought the small. In .308, I tried one (can't remember which) but the POF was better. The three chambers of the POF have different size holes for the bullet to pass through regulating the amount of gas that gets redirected in each chamber.
  6. I tried a bunch of different brakes including the JP and found the POF brake reduced recoil and muzzle rise the best. 'Course once I started killin' pigs at night I switched to the Smith flash hider. Here's a link to the POF .308 brake. http://www.pof-usa.com/shop/index.php?id_product=35&controller=product
  7. I hunted pigs a couple of weeks ago during some very cold weather. Gloves were necessary. I really like my Hatch KSG-500 gloves for shooting, but they were a little light. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DZT6HY/ For colder conditions, I go to my Seirus Innovations Max http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ED2D5S/
  8. Couple other thoughts on this. Notice how there's virtually no muzzle flash? I'm using a Smith Enterprises flash hider. The damn thing works! Also, very little muzzle rise on this shot. Not sure why. My buddy has a similar build with a 18" Rainer Match barrel and a cheap knock-off of the Smith. He gets a big flash and the gun jumps around with every shot.
  9. Thanks for all the props brothers! That's an ATN ThOR 640 w/ 2.5x optical lens. MSRP is about $11k. I rent them for trips for about $450/wk. http://www.atncorp.com/atn-nightvision-thermal-weaponsight-thor-640-25x-30hz
  10. Rifle is Mega Maten, Rainer 20" Ultramatch barrel, SSA trigger. TTSX heads w/ 47.5 CFE223. Shot passed through the shoulder blade.
  11. Fkn MIM parts suck balls. Buddy had a bunch of problems with MIM parts in a Springfield 1911. I've got an ALG ACT trigger ($65) in a couple guns and I really like it. Check it out.
  12. If you're seeing any pressure signs with regular bullets, my experience has been that it will get worse using TTSX heads. I think it happens because they're longer for the weight so you lose some space in the case. For example, 48.0 of CFE223 with a 168 Sierra GameKing is not a compressed load, but with a 168 TTSX it is.
  13. Friend has one. It's ridiculously big and heavy. We joke that he keeps an entire sonic cleaner in it to clean his gun between stages.
  14. Like the colors. You can really see the crud and swarf that falls into the yellow catch bin. What are those guys doing wearing long sleeves running that machine and why is the second guy carrying blue jeans while standing next to it?
  15. Keep in mind this is a roll trigger, not a crisp break. However, it has about the shortest reset of any AR I've tried. If you like roll triggers, this is great. If not, stay with the others.
  16. If you're going to go big, why not 325 WSM?
  17. I like plain ol' Sierra 168 gr GameKings for northeast Deer and Barnes TTSX 168 for Texas pigs. Both fly fine with 48 gr or CFE223.
  18. I'm going to have to back out. I'm in a commie state and the more I look at this the more I worry that I'd just get in trouble. Sorry.
  19. Depending on price, I'm in.
  20. Pic 34, 43, 78 shows the building I work in.
  21. This has nothing to do with the Colorado recalls. Christie vetoed these bills on Aug 17. Not sure why this was posted today. He vetoed them so as not to alienate his potential republican voters in the next presidential election.
  22. Syrac's has a plunger that must be depressed in order to move the setting. Wilson's has a lock screw that goes in on top of the adjustment. Both of these are good designs and can be adjusted from the front.
  23. I had this before and it was the neck tension. What sizing die are you using?
  24. I've never understood the point of a heavy buffer. I always run adjustable gas blocks. I went with a light BCG and a standard .308 buffer. I just turn the gas down. 100% reliable. If you want to reduce felt recoil, you could just as easily add weight to the buttstock or go with a heavy forearm.
  25. Instead of waiting months and paying twice the price for a carbon wrapped barrel, I went with the Rainier UM in 18" and had it in 3 days. Shoots 1/2 MOA to 300 yards. Can't imagine why anyone would want to spend more on a barrel for a semi-auto than that. Rainier UM or Novekse make great barrels.
