  1. No kidding. There are superior to ADM and LaRue. Not that those are bad, but Bobro and GDI are in a different category. You won't regret buying good mounts. Scopes come and go, but good mounts hang around forever.
  2. I hate that. St. Bernards are a wonderful breed.
  3. My wife had a dog that developed a bad food allergy and she had to change to a lamb and rice (expensive high dollar food) diet. They did a skin scrap test and that is what they came up with. It cleared it up. The only difference is that they didn't have the pain issue you are describing. I am curious to see what the lab comes back with.
  4. My Vortex hook-ups are Liberty Optics, Colonial Armory, and Cameraland. They are all pretty close in price, I choose the one who has what I need in stock at the time. Call them up don't go through email or facebook. I agree getting a mil-dot or tactical milling type reticle is very sound advice. I would agree with the FFP if you meet the following criteria: 1. Have extra money to burn. 2. Going to participate in tactical rifle competitions. (positions, movers, ranging, etc) 3. Hunting in rugged country. If you are going to be killing steel or punching paper in the sleepy time position, then you really won't benefit from the FFP. The money you save can go towards ammo which will make you a better shooter if you practice your fundamentals.
  5. If you aren't going to hunt (at least for now), you aren't going to be shooting movers, and much of your work will be done from prone and/or bench (shooting for groups), my suggestion is get the extra magnification. I personally don't like that much magnification, but I hunt and animals don't always pose for me.
  6. Are you going to hunt?
  7. Unless you need/want illumination, the HS-T will serve you well. .
  8. I hope it is nothing and it clears up soon. I sincerely hope it is not cancer.
  9. Well there is a lot surrounding this issue that is for sure. If he is guilty of what he is accused of, then he should face some justice.
  10. You get the mid-dot reticle with Bushnell. The Leupold glass in the redfield may be the equivalent to the Rifleman or VX-1, but it is not the Leupold glass in the VX-R or VX-3.....and no where near the Mark 4, 6, or 8. You are in a certain price point and regardless of who makes the scope, they are not going to invest in the same glass, coatings, and seals as they do their higher end lines. In that range, some are better than other, but only slightly. All the ones you have asked about have good warranties and are solid companies.
  11. It appears from the quoted post that the U.S. Govt. isn't the only one that doesn't understand "these Middle Eastern people." Afghanistan and Pakistan are in Asia, not the Middle East. The Middle East, all the way to South Asia, is full varied people and religions including Christian, Jews, Moderate/Secular Muslims, Hindu, Bahai, etc. There are also numerous cultures, languages, traditions, and ethnic backgrounds. Individuals are motivated to commit acts of terror for a variety of reason, and yes, a major motivating factor in the region is a religious one. That being said, scores of "these Middle Eastern people" like us and risk and give up their lives assisting in eradicating these cancerous people from earth and/or bring them to justice. I am proud this young Soldier is home.
  12. Nice. Bushnell has a good warranty.
  13. ADM, GDI, Bobro.....and well, LaRue.
  14. I agree 100%. I read that. I was under the impression he had $500 to spend from his original post. My suggestion was to put that money he was going to spend on the iron sights with that $500 (or $410) bucks he has budgeted and get a scope. Everyone should learn to shoot with irons.
  15. Yes. Metal components would make this more bulletproof. The paracord portion is extremely robust. I can give you two instances where the polymer had flex at the range. 1. Rifle (308ar variant) clinched up. 2. Transition drills as the (rifle hanged). I want to be clear. This is a good sling. But if you are going on hunts that require lots of stalking and/or you are going to participate in any activity that you will be laying hands on people or engaging in cqb....those pieces will need an upgrade.
  16. Yes. The eye relief on the PA leaves a lot to be desired. The thing that I liked about it was the reticle subtended correctly and as DRD said, the glass is better than most in that price range. The Burris Fullfield E1 is clear as well, but I am not sold on the E1 reticle.
  17. What everyone said about the MBUS Gen2 is true. They are a great value and will serve you well. BUT....your original post said your budget was $500, and there are plenty of decent NEW scopes in that price range that will get you buy....and hell may even be more than you need....for about $250 more, the quality and features increase. So if you could save up to $750, you would have some really good glass. For $500, you can have a solid piece of used kit with a little patience. Now, you are talking about buying Back-Up Iron Sights which will cost you a minimum of $90 for a quality set.....that could be $90 you could add to your already $500 budget. You know you want it scoped so don't throw money away on other sighting systems that you kinda don't want. That is going to kill your funds that you could use to purchase better glass. There are some other really good options that are well within your budget. https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary-Arms-4-14X44-FFP-Scope-p/pa4-14xffp.htm http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexviper6-20x44 The Vortex glass is better, but both scopes will do what you need them to do. I do not own the Primary Arms, but after seeing a couple, they appear to be a great value. The Vortex warranty is legendary, but I am sad to say that I have to use it twice on one of my Scopes. They made it right.
  18. Appleseed is awesome, and you walk away with a little history lesson. You might want to check other forums WTS threads. You may be able to pick up a darn good scope for an excellent price. If you are willing to spend $500 now, why not save up a couple of more pennies and get an SWFA 3-15 FFP a couple months down the line. It will take you a long time to out grow the scope.
  19. Well, you certainly can shoot a 1000 yard target, but it has more to do with the fiddler than the fiddle.
  20. Ouch. <laughs> Well everyone says they are going to shoot 1000 yards :sniper: . I usually ignore that and just recommend something in their price range.
  21. I got my sling today and I must stay the quality and artistry of the paracord is awesome. Excellent work. I had the opportunity to work with the sling today on both MK18, subgun and 308. These drills were performed will all my kit on. These are some observations: The sling should be about 8-10 inches longer if you are running an SBR or 16 inch rifle. The Paracord section should extend about 5 inches longer to place the adjustment in a location that is easily accessible to the shooter. The additional length in the webbing is for those that wear body armor. The sling did perform well once I got it adjusted all the way out on the MK18. I didn't fiddle too much with the 308 because the weight of the rifle flexed the polymer pieces that attach the paracord to the webbing and I didn't want to risk breaking them. Also it had the sling maxed out the sling length to work with the rifle. The sling was right at home on the subgun with HK hooks. No real issues there. The weakest part of the sling is the polymer components. I have no doubts the paracord could substitute as a tow rope, but IMHO those components need an upgrade before they can be put to hard use. I hope this helps. Anyone who is planning on using their sling for duty use should let beachmaster know ahead of time. The sling is a work of art. Stain
  22. Vortex HS-T 4-16 is decent and in that price range.
  23. I agree. I also agree that Temporary Checkpoints are dangerous as hell and have in the past been manned by guys with little experience at the large Checkpoints. Both Agents and Civilian have lost their lives at these things. The large Checkpoints do push large groups to the areas outside the check points where those crews track and apprehend the drugs and aliens. 392 is right the 4th Amendment is in full effect and as a general rule (although in some states they are) Border Patrol Agents do not have Peace Officer Status. Some states offer Peace Officer Status to Federal Agents, most often to Special Agents with full Title 18 and 21 authority. Peace Officer status and being a Federal Agent, IMPO, creates more problems than it solves. I have heard both sides of that argument and have yet to be convinced. I am willing to discuss those opinions in a different venue. The guys with the cameras are looking for attention so the best way to handle them is not give it to them on their terms.
  24. This came from Salon. Nuff Said.
