  1. Soo... final part is done (except for the can of course). But, the road to my 300BLK SBR has not been all pretty, and needed this one last thing: long story short... I tried to use a local service for my SBR engraving - keeping money local, supporting local shops, yada yada. Local gun shop that deals in Class3 stuff said a certain engraver in town did theirs, to ATF specs. Ok... sounds good, right? I picked up my lower and about EXPLODED! Looked like some trainee had practiced on my lower before ETCHING a children's version of a 'Worlds Best Parent' plaque. Absolutely GOD-AWFUL. Man, I was pissed. Demanded my money back, fought with them over it, walked out with a few expletives hurled, headed straight to the LGS, showed them, bitched at them, made no friends there (hint: they have their own really bad reality show) and no longer deal with them AT ALL. Started driving 35 miles to a different class3 dealer as a result (and totally happy) So... now I had a lower with a totally screwed up engraving - more like a etching. Too shallow of lettering, way bigger than I asked, wrong font, was not blackened so it was shiny aluminum colored, just FUBAR from start to finish and it takes up a LARGE portion of the right side magwell (notice none of the pics I posted show it close up Just the one where the lighting hid it??). I ended up sending it to Ident and dammit, should have done so in the first place. That's what I get for trying to be a good local boy. So now to fix this screwup... Doing some research, JB weld is the choice of repairs. Before I did anything, I looked into Duracoating as there is a Durafill as well. Decided to do the Cerakote with things filled in by JB Weld since the guy with the duracoat stuff never replied to me until weeks had gone by. I did a great job filling, and sanding it sooooth, if I may say so myself. Cerakoter said he's put a tad thicker on in the area. Well, when he was done it was smooth to the touch. You could not tell by touching it where it was. BUT... cerakote is applied thin. REAL thin. You could see it thru the coating, even with the thicker application. NUTS to the 10th power. What to do... Problem solved. Custom made stickers... $35 for 20 of them for when they wear off or get damaged. Have another design with a Roman helmet and 'Molon Labe' on it but I think I'm sticking with this one. Sighting in range report coming this week.
  2. roll roll roll your own... learning to do so all this week with a buddy. Only way I will ever see 300blk ammo. I did buy a bulk pack of the PWN range ammo to at least tune my adj. gas block - in stock at ammotogo.com.Paid out the arse for it and shipping but needed something.
  3. And I can't find any 300blk ammo locally. You all suck.
  4. LOL Back from the range... got Vera tuned and tweaked. With the SLR Rifleworks DA7 adjustable block, I have the opening at 9 clicks (out of 15) for the PNW 147gr range ammo, and 11 clicks for the PNW 220gr Subsonic ammo. I'm pretty impressed... not much recoil, locks back even after a 5 shot rapid fire group, pretty quiet for even an 8" barrel (altho the Noveske PIG helps that). All in all, she shoots really, really well. And as luck would have it I hit the one store on the way back from the range that actually carries 300blk ammo and got the last 2 boxes of Hornady 110 Vmax! Too bad I stopped on the way HOME. But... luckily enough, my truck did not start this morning for some reason so I have to pack what I could in the wifes car after I dropped her at work. Which means all I had was my rifle, and range bag. No targets of any kind, and since the range is closed today, all I could do was shoot at the backstop. Why is that lucky? Well... I have to go back soon to sight it in! And soon... YIPPEE!! LOL
  5. W00t w00t! My über expensive ammo arrived, headspaced 2 BCG's (RGuns NiB main with a BCM backup) and am ready for tomorrow! Day off, wife is on orders to leave me the hell alone, range is closed except for my membership level, and weather looks good. Tad chilly, but who cares!
  6. Aaaaand the ammo is in town. Delivery on Monday. Tuesday is a go since my headspace gauges arrived today!! Now I need to locate A1680 powder for making a poop ton of subs...
  7. W00t w00t! Found a place that says you CAN ship ammo to AK... AmmoToGo. Somehow they know the ins and outs, and I was told I could ship. Placed an order, and got notice of shipment. Paying out the A$$ for shipping, but I figure it's a one time deal. I'd like to test and dial in Vera with commercially available ammo to remove issues with my reloads. I'll be watching the tracking like a HAWK until it gets here, if it does. If so, I'll be at the range on Tuesday stroking Vera lovingly... If not, well I'll be doing the same but worried about issues between reloading and the weapon.
  8. finished Vera today... gas block is in, and the BCG slides onto the gas tube almost effortlessly- spent a bunch of time making sure. Even made my own keymod front vertical grip out of an unused MOE grip. just waiting for a headspace gauge set (finally shipped thank God) and to make some more ammo. good look at the great job my cerakoter did on the handguard... note the top rail is still black <thumbsup> The twins... had him do my Glock22 while he was doing FDE
  9. Vera - A little nod to one of my fav shows and characters I don't really name my guns, but I do have to say my Tromix Saiga12 is named 'Mr Giggles' since everyone that lets loose a 20rd mag dump giggles hysterically...
  10. BTW... I call her 'Vera'
  11. Hmm... I thought about a folder, but I have one on my Saiga's (12 and 308) and I never use them. But I see these are not for shooting from, but for ease of transport/concealment. Hmmmm...
  12. Thanks gang! Gotta say I like hearing attaboys instead of What a Moron like I normally hear.... LMAO One thing I really like I had the cerakoter do that is hard to see in the pic, is the top picatinney rail on the handguard is black, so the monolithic upper rail is continuous black from end to end. Just didn't seem right to have it FDE and black. Well, I hope sooner rather than later. But... this is the NFA branch of the BATFE so I'm telling myself 2016 so when it arrives sooner I'm that much happier LOL In all honesty, I got a .22 suppressor back in 3 months with the eform filing. But the Specwar was NOT efiled... I'm wrestling with the option of cancelling the paper form and refiling with eform. Dealer says it can be done, but is not without some issues. But if it turns into a 3-4 month wait instead of 15 months... well, that's hard to NOT do. Waiting to see if another can that was efiled also comes back around 3 months... if it does, then I will do it. Thanks... Nice to get confirmation that I made a few good choices on parts and whatnot. Altho the proof will be in the pew pew pew. My biggest issue is ammo... there is none available locally - most shops look at me strangely when I ask for 300 blackout ammo. Only 2 places have said they have had it at one time or another. And I'm just starting out in reloading, so if I run into an issue with FTE, FTF and so on... is it the weapon? or is it my reloaded ammo? So I broke down and bought some commercial ammo online and am paying out the ASS for shipping. (To Alaska, even ground shipping goes by air so all hazmat fees and extra charges still apply... c'mon Cabelas April 10 grand opening!!!!) But my theory is that once I get it tuned using commercial ammo, then I can tune my ammo loads knowing the weapon is not the issue if I run into them. Now that this thread is here, I'll toss in updates as they come.
  13. well... finally got everything back from being cerakoted So many goodies on this - been saving $$ and parts for awhile. Mega lower, Aero upper, Valley armory 8.5" barrel with 1:7 twist (local shop), Umbrella grip, Rainier Arms rapter handle, ACE Socom stock (wanted something different), Seekins MCSR rail (final look will be the suppressor under the rail) and enhanced mag relase and bolt catch, Troy battle sights, Battle Arms takedown pins and safety, Noveske keymod light mount, KX3 PIG and QD endplate, Fenix TK15 light, Timney 4# trigger, RGuns NiB BCG, SLR DA7 adjustable gas block, and I'm sure a lot I missed. Still need to actually time the barrel nut and install the gas tube, and then tune the gas block. not to mention make a pissload of ammo! LOL. Going to start with a basic buffer, and work up in weight until I get what I want- going for 90% sub loads, so we'll see. Cannot freaking WAIT for 1) Specwar762 suppressor and 2) ammo for this thing. Sure this will be a ongoing thread as I get to play with it
  14. Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion for Glock 35 lower recoil springs 5 9mm mags and in an E-mail notice that my .300blk parts have been cerakoted and are ready for pickup tomorrow!!
  15. yeah, it's been thin to say the least. Thankfully I've been able to scrounge 11# of H110, 500 of the Sierra 220gr MK and 250 of the 208 A-Max's. But I have yet to see a box of commercial .300aac! the blackout SBR I'm doing got me into reloading, just because no one locally carries any except for 2 shops and they laugh everytime I ask.
  16. LOL lots of perseverance! Actually found the 208's locally, and the 220 MK's @ Natchezssss or whatever the hell they are. On a side note, all parts have been Cerakoted, and hopefully picking them up this weekend to finish the build! I'll post a final photo with all the parts listed when I do.
  17. posted in the NFA area, but seems appropriate here too :)) .300AAC 8½" 1:7 barrel, and a load of other goodies (yes, the sights are backwards but this was a toss together mockup before sending parts for cerakoting) Already formed 2k brass, and have collected enough A-Max 208gr and MK 220gr lead to fill those up, primers and powder as well. Just if the damn ATF would speed up my SpecWar762 can...
  18. I know, but was still saying 'oh crap' since it was my first time shooting it! I just stopped looking over my shoulder since I got the stamps approved :))
  19. Yeah, I'm actually impressed with the can. I was not sure what to expect, as it's my first can, but regardless it's impressive. Cannot WAIT for my M&P 15-22 to come back from threading! And the little pistol is a blast... Smith & Wesson 422. Had it for years, and never let me down. I think I'm at the point of needing new springs for it as it seems to jam more often. With the can, it runs better with the extra backpressure, but gums up faster due to the goop. But loads of fun anyways! (I'm on the hunt for the target model Walther P22 however) Funny thing at the range was the local police was doing their qualifying, so all the noise in the background was them. Otherwise I would have had the entire range to myself. But as they were leaving one car stopped by me and the officer got out. First thought was 'obey, I've had the can a week and my first paperwork check!" but instead he was asking all kinds of questions about it. C:-)
  20. went and played at the range instead of playing the Drinking Game during the State of the Union address (I'd have gotten far too drunk...) Can't wait for the cerakoting to be done and assemble to SBR... It'll probably be named 'Mr Giggles' due to the fun.
  21. A little gun porn  Suppressor on a S&W 422 (SWR/SilencerCo Spectre II) mockup of my .300aac SBR: I'm having the stock and rail cerakoted FDE,and the Upper/lower done in Graphite Black. I have a second rail that is longer for when my Specwar762 is approved, so the can will under ride the rail more for a cleaner look, as well as more real estate to grip. My S&W 15-22 should be back soon from being threaded - that can is made for it! The Spectre II is a TANK. Little more heavy, but no chance in hell of wearing out. Will reside on the 15-22 95% of the time.
  22. .22 can (not mail obviously), ACE M4 Socom stock for my SBR, Seekings MCSR 12" rail for my SBR, Noveske keymod light mount for my SBR, and an updated steel mag for my Saiga12 for testing. Gotta love long weekends where the email collects up for a one ay delivery! edit: oh yeah, forgot on Sat I got a box of 500 Sierra Matchking 220gr bullets for my SBR too! <thumbsup> Sad part is, my can for it will most likely be approved this time next year done via mail in instead of eForm
  23. Wow.... submitted a eForm1 for a .300Blackout SBR on Sept 30, and got the email this morning it is approved. Just waiting for the stamp to arrive. So, I called my dealer to tell him it was good he told me about the eforms, and HE tells ME my first suppressor also was approved this morning, also efiled but 2 days prior to my SBR. That makes it only roughly 3½ months from submitted to approved! Just sucks it's not the SpecWar7.62 (it's for my .22) but it was also efiled so there is hope!
  24. I may be interested if you do a 1:10... my 8" 1:7 is gonna be a dedicated sub/suppressed upper. I have a spare upper to build on, why not another .300 for supers! Be a use for the Noveske PIG I have...
