  1. Well stated. Not every gun and gun assessory manufacturer can take refuge in pro-gun states.
  2. I do concede that this is an extra "bell and whistle" so far as most manufacturers are not offerig this amount of ambi features. However, please take a look at the Colt and this video http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=0O9wUV8ozmk&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0O9wUV8ozmk The lower from AX762 will too but it is only a lower so that was not an example that is the same as our discussion. Not to mention the company has taken at least a year longer than they said they would for release and who knows when the upper will be out. The S&W ambi features, personally, don't make me want the rifle any more over some others but it is nice.
  3. I'll take some blame on this going a tad bit off topic but lets give an honorable mention to the AX762 http://axtsweapons.com/products/AX762 Coming soon to drain your wallet. ..now that is meant to be truly ambi and it's pretty sharp looking. Definately off topic, sorry.
  4. I love a spirited debate/conversation lol. You're making me work for this one. My original choice was Colt and here is the link with specs. I love Colt but don't own this one. http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtRifles/ColtLE90116S.aspx POF lists their current .308 AR with ambi bolt and selector. Check it out for yourself... http://www.pof-usa.com/16.5-p308-black.html The LMT MWS has a ambi mag and safety selector. http://www.lmtstore.com/complete-weapon-systems-firearms-guns/308-modular-weapon-system.html HK 417 doesn't have many, just the selector and charging handle from what I understand. The last one is a no go for me just based on price. I would buy from any of the other companies though. What can I say besides that I have expensive taste. That's not to say smaller price tags don't carry a good deal with a quality product. I never said they don't after all. Ambi controls seem to be growing in popularity so I don't see anything but this becoming a growing trend. The next gen of more companies will probably have all the ambi features.
  5. A number come stock with ambi features. I like them but am still a bit "old school" in my preferences until they grow a bit more on me. You wanted me to name a few with stock ambi controls. I'll start with the obvious KAC. Colt, POF, LMT, and HK all also have ambi features. ...and yes, I know prices are higher than S&W and H&K can be left off for obvious availability reasons but they are still on the list.
  6. If anyone is interested in buying one, I can find out more for you. I know people in the company that give me an honest assessment of products I ask about. This includes flaws that I was advised about in the early Bodyguard models and other handguns for example. The one thing I can vouch for is the S&W gunsmiths that have helped me are great and will work with you on any issues if there are any. I haven't found this across the board with other companies.
  7. First off, I am a proud S&W owner but just don't feel that this rifle is stacked. I do realize that this isn't the term you used but I'm just making a point of where this rifle falls. It may be closer to a KAC than a DPMS but IMO I feel that it's still a very long road from a KAC. This is both in quality and price. KAC is definately overpriced. Many reputable companies are producing AR-308 variants at this point and ambi controls are becoming more and more common. I would have to go with the Colt version if I was going to buy a .308 AR tomorrow that is reasonably priced. I say this based on the last time I looked at them prior to the school shooting incident. Again, I'm not bashing S&W just giving an opinion. I've never fired or held this .308 model but am just not impressed. I have first hand knowledge of a few of their products that hit the market too soon and how common QC issues were. I would wait on any new S&W for at least a year or two.
  8. I think I read something like 1300 for it. I had to take a double take but I'm not sure what gun stores would want to sell it for now. After reading up on it, it seems like a basic model with no bells and whistles. Pretty obvious for that price too. Update: seems to be in the 1600-1750 range. I know I read that it was going to be cheaper just prior to its release though.
  9. Yikes, you aren't playing around...nice selection.
  10. I know many of you are aware that MIDWAYUSA has a fairly reasonable price on Ace Skeleton stocks, but if you're interested they just got the 1 inch matching pad in too. Great deal on a popular stock with no backorder as of right now.
  11. That is definately a good question, if anyone can answer it... If a modern "308" barrel will not accept a .308 no go gauge, which you'd think would be a positive, how would the barrel be able to safely fire a 7.62x51 Nato round? The rainier barrel is a good quality barrel, as are FA barrels like mine, but this headspacing the 7.62 is an odd roadblock to ensure you can confidently fire this round safely.
  12. Thanks. I only checked on their website for a few minutes but some of their firearms stuff seems to be nice quality.
  13. Great description. I'm sure that answered a few questions that I would also have down the road.
  14. The info on HT seems to describe it as a solid product. I didn't see any stamps on mine. The person I spoke to on the phone was great but the company is not good responding to emails. I took a leap of faith.
  15. The headspacing check success that I commented on in another thread involved this GB BCG/bolt. I won't start a group post to say this BCG is the best thing going right now until I fire with it and check for abnormal wear, etc...but so far so good.
  16. Was that in the last few months? Great price. ha, let me know what company so I can put them on speed dial.
  17. It's definately hard to wait for things...my impatience has cost me a few hundred bucks this year. I've also become so wrapped up in builds that I've probably committed all my extra money for the next few years in 2 AR-15s and a 300 BLK. I was always one to pick an expensive hobby anyways.
  18. Ha...the hole in my hand is almost completely healed up from my exploit in this area.
  19. What a beaut. I'm still waiting on my atlas bipod. I went with Troy TRX but your Apex rail is really nice. Sign up here for Mega Maten email notificatio. This site does occasionally restock. I had to pay 200 over this price to get mine. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Mega_Arms_Maten_Upper_and_AMBI_Lower_Set_Black_Ano_p/mega-m3080904ha.htm
  20. I bought one from the GB guy thats been mentioned. Mine looked GTG with no rough machine work. I haven't fired it yet. I second the comment about in stock BCGs on FA. They're only 50 bucks cheaper so I'd stay with the nickel boron one.
  21. The reason is probably because of the price...many go cheaper but you get what you pay for. They are very good mounts.
  22. Great point. I didn't realize how special those bonds were until after I left the military.
  23. I shoot in a number of places but Plymouth for now is my main choice. MA gun laws do suck but they're not as bad as CA, NY, DC, etc. There are legal ways to get around a lot of stuff. It's not as loose as the south and some other great states but you can own quite a bit. The restrictions on collapsable stocks, 10 rd mag caps, and having to have a brake pinned are about the extent of most of it. Feel free to PM with any questions and I'll help when I can. Ft Benning? I don't miss that place lol. I do miss the Army though.
  24. Oh ya, I just recommend buying at the $349. They sell quick and there always seems to be someone that just does that anyways because it is a good deal nowadays. Up to you though. I tried bidding twice two separate times then just bought it for the $349. I have not shot with it yet but the bolt passed my headspace check with flying colors with a FA Criterion barrel.
  25. Welcome. I purchased one from him and he's a legit seller and the manufacturer. He did the same to me. He claimed to manufacturer for KAC and judging from the quality he may not be blowing smoke. He said KAC-Knights Armament-was not paying its bills on time so he said screw 'em. This explains the no company label. His company website doesn't sell them to the public...sorry can't remember the name. The BCG fit like a charm in my mega. He is selling for that low buy now price to give the proverbial middle finger to all those that have ridiculous prices. Look for yourself. Many have a starting bid 150 dollars above his buy now price. He also claims to be close to selling receivers at good price points to do the same.
