I can't see changing out for another Armalite Carbine upper, UBR stock ect. and another red dot, or ACOG that's gonna cost as much as another rifle wont it?

We have 5.56 / 223 for CQB / Entry and house clearing. We have a lot of open area and these are for prerimeter and heavy equipment response operations and another tool in the tool box. The 5.56 / 223 is a good platform but not the end all beat all.

:-[ As the title says, so heres what's going on. So I have been a L.E.O. for 9 years and counting. Of those 9 years I have about 6 years of SWAT. I have had now 2 orthopedic surgeries and Doc tells me its now a question of how long before a knee replacement, if I keep it up with the long days in the gym and training ect. it will come sooner than I want. Everytime I have been in line to go to a precision rifle school for work, something always just keeps happening, to keep me from going. Being a God fearing man I can take a hint. So I resigned from SWAT and was hoping my Chief would still allow me to go to a school even as a patrol officer just to have one around and no, can't justify the money and cost for ammo to our admin. / trustees, plus thats what SWAT is for. I have a postive relationship with my Chief and I totally understand how that works, and it is darn expensive more so than I can / am wiling to pay out of pocket. Okay so now we are implimenting 308s into patrol as a SHTF weapon and not to be used as a house clearing gun, no CQB with them, thats what the 5.56 is for .The area I serve, has a mixture of everything terrain wise, from woods to a golf course 4 school's a shopping complex, farm land and the burbs. Most of us carry our own Ar-15 / M-4 varriant and now that I am not using this Super SASS, and dont shoot past 200 yds I was thinking of selling her / trading her in. I am looking into say a SIG 716 or simular and put on a 3.5 power ACOG on it and keep my Night Force and use a set of ADM Q.D. throws. I could get a dual use outta of this carbine beteen the two optics and my bi-pod and take it to work along witih my M-4 as to a rifle that is just sitting in my safe and never be used to its fullest potential. I can't justify spending more money to just buy one and keep the SASS, when I have something of no practical use to me that I can off load to obtain something that can. What do you think? Also what is a fair price for this? Armalite Super SASS 7.62 / 308 with 300 rnds down range and the barrel properly broken in as per Armalite, a 2 stage SSA trigger, KAC winter trigger guard, MDT direct fit recoil pad, ERGO palm shelf grip, AAdland 1 peice mount with buble level, and a custom fit pelican case, one 10 rnd mag and three 20 rnd mags. I also have all the original parts, the case, and manuals, and the warranty card is still blank. By the way not a scratch, ding or scrape on her.

You Indiana boys know how to use a cell. :))

Ouch! I'm not a reloader, and I always use quality ammo, at the range I never do tap rack and bang. I ALWAYS check the barrel on any of firearms incase that ammo was made at beer-thirty on the day before a holiday weekend lol. That's intersting that the bolt is still semi locked up. I think it was a hot round too much powder or wrong kind. One of our guys bought some "re-manufactured" ammo and shot it. The back of the shell casing melted to the bolt and shoved it back into the carrier splitting it open, as well as blowing out the metal mag from the mag well.

How does it shoot, accuracy up to 100yds?
-
I have to get mine out of he safe
-
She looks built for the long haul / endurance
-
Yep it's called a trip to Home Depot / Lowes
-
Yep that was all it needed, I've shot about 200 rnds over in since and it's still good to go.
-
Thanks for the heads up, it was checked by a compitent smith and good to go, I even let him shoot the first mag as I stood a safe distnace behind, I dont know where I got that idea from? Shot like a champ, and didn't miss a beat and better yet didn't go bad boom like that M-2. On a side note, damn I love a Nickle Boron BCG. So much easier to clean and after 120 rnds smooth as silk.

5.56 I got the torque specs right and she's all zeroed in with the old BCG, thats where I am kinda confused I measured every part of my milspec BCG and the measurements are the same with the new one. So if eveythings the same and I never messed with the barrel extension, and everything is good to go that way as well. I have been reading mixed answers on various forums, some say head space is checked when you insall a new barrel into a barrel extension. After this you can swap barrels with another mil-spec upper, becasue the index pin will fint into the U shaped notch in the receivier and line up the feed ramps, and the bolt will lock up. But it has to be all spec. By the way I hope Char doesn't know about your dastardly plan lol

Ok I got a new Nickel Boron BCG today at gun show to put in this new upper. So when I changed uppers the barrel just went from one upper to the other. It will chamber and eject the rounds by hand cycling the charging handle do I need to check headspace on this thing before I go shooting. I've taken my digital calipers and measured the lugs on the bolt it all measures the same as the bolt I replaced, can yall give me some direction?

Tom, I am not worthy as you are 100% right on again. The 80 lbs of torque did the trick I had reset the zero on my windage to mechanical zero using the marks on the back of my Troy flip sight, dead on and only 3 clicks to the right on my Aimpoint PRO. The groups tightened back up to the way they should be and I put 3 mags through it tonight and she didnt skip a beat and stayed zeroed.
-
And Robocop takes the rap, lol were good
-
Nope you should allow an awesome LEO like me to take those off of your hands being the evil balck bullets they are lol
-
This gives me hope that after the proper torque was given my issue should be solved.

Ok 3 votes Shadow Ops. I was looking for reviews on them and I think AIM surplus uses them, and has thier brand logo on them. The black extractor and gas key screws and faceted / angular bolt is kind of a clue. As the others I have seen the entire BCG is NIK. Looks like I may bite the bullet and go tis route, Gun show is this weekend, after I try to re-zero my ar again, I'm gonna see whats out there.
-
EXACTLY or you have the same issue I did with my recent install. Even Noveske on the NSR Rail, states to use a grease on the barrel nut threads and you may need to tighten loosen.Thier brand specific Torque specs are 40-80 lbs. Mine was done at like 35 and after 100 rnds of frustration it came loose. Redone to 80 and wnd Ill be at the range this weekend. I'll post thr results on my other thread as not to thread jack ^-^

That does make me feel more apt to take a more seriousl look at them, I am having a hard time justifing the 230 for a Spikes even though I know they are gtg.
-
I have been looking at those, WMD and Spikes if I can find one. The name of Shadow Ops kinda reminds me of the " Dreaded Counter Sniper " scopes that are allegedly special forces gov. contract over runs ect. <lmao> But since you hand survivalshop have them, would you reccomend them?

Who's running one, what kind and what do you think about it?
