  1. Here you go this is what I call my black widow, well now that the barrel nut is at proper torque specs lol. Spikes Gen 2 Billet Upper. In the next few months they will be releasing a sweet ass new billet lower and it to be as strong but lighter than forged. I prefer billet because its a block of aluminum put into a cnc machine and cut / manufactured. Nothing wrong with forged what so ever. 2. The last time I tried to free float a barrel, I over torqued the barrel nut and over indexed causing my rear sight to bottom out and not co-witness. I learnt the hard way that I am not savy to tourqe values lol. Thats why I let a armorer do it especially on a $200 billet upper receiver lol.By the wat the trigger is of the same configuration as a NM just not as smooth. I'll get it back to you this week with all the stuff it came with.
  3. Thanks Tom, I saw Shibi's 308 issue w/ his free float tube and after he torqed his down it solved his problem. I also did some google foo and depending on the type of material the barrel nut is made from i.e. aluminum can affect the torque value. I watched the first guy do it by hand and and figured since he builds so many, he could do it by feel. The second guy took it to 30 back it off than to right around 80 and he used a tourqe wrench. I am hopefull that this solves the problem. I can see how 1 the front sight being a little cock eyed can cause a rear sight to bottom out. And 2 with a barrel moving in and out I can see how the groups opened up and could casue the sights to also bottom out. I did have a few FTEs and FTFs which I have never had on this rifle when I used the original upper before changing out. That is also a sign of a loose barrel nut. The fit between the barrel extension and the reciever is a nice fit. I just wish the 1st guy would have listened to me and saved some virgin ears, ammo and time lol.
  4. I don't want to be anywhere around that beast when you let loose OMG that would be loud
  5. The barrel nut was lubed as per the instructions with a grease from JP Enterprises.
  6. Ok, now its my turn for some advice lol. So I decided to give my work rifle a face lift/work over. Its a Spikes Tactical with a brand new Gen 2 Billet upper / same old Forged lower / BCG, NM 2 stage trigger, Magpul UBR, and AFG, Aimpoint Pro, Troy flips, new claymore brake, Noveske NSR 15 inch rail, Odin mag extension, Magpul BAD lever, Magpul /Novekse ambi saftey, a 16" Daniel Denfense CHF 1:7 twist barreland Surefire X300 ultra with tape switch. So the new stuff is the upper, the Noeske NSR rail, and Troy Claymore muzzle brake. I had the smith at the gun store put on my rail. He stated that 35 lbs of tourqe was enough so that the Novske barrel nut would line up for the keymod rail screws to attatch to the barrel nut. I mentioned something about the directions stating to 65-80 lbs of torque he said 35 was fine, ok, I've not been to an armorer school yet so I am not gonna argue. So I put the the Troy on the muzzle and made sure the upper was attached to a Pather Claw in a vice then off to the range. I zero mine in at 25 yds since this is a CQB type gun and not likely I'll be shooting past 50 yds 100 tops, and to eliminate aiming high at shorter distances to compensate for the distance from front sight to bore. So I am using 55 gr PMC which shoots 4 shot groups allmost one hole out of this gun. I am sitting at a bench with my wedge sandbags and shoot my first group, it is way left, so I adjust my sights to the point where it appears the the rear sight is going to over index/bottom out to the right, I AM PISSED. I take a break, I remove the NSR rail, double check everything, reattatch the rail and go back at it. So now its shooting way right. I think ok, maybe oneside got screwed way too tight or the rail was some how off center and I fixed it. I start to adjust my sights a few clicks and now it shoots way left again,I re-adjust then it goes way right. Finally on the last strig my group opened up from bugholes to the size of a tennis ball. I grab the rifle to sit it down and start counting as I am madder than hell. Then I notice the rail will rotate coounter clockwise about 1/4 a turn, the barrel is now loose and I went ashen. I call up another FFL guy I buy stuff from and he also builds rifles. I take a well needed drive he removed the rail and I unscrewed the barrel nut by hand. We checked out the upper and miked the threads and U shaped notch to make sure the barrel index pin didn't fubar the upper. He listened and read the instructions, it took close to the 80 lbs of torque to get it lined up. We double checked the rail by mounting my Aimpoint forward enough to have the mount to rest on both the rail. The upper reciever and the holes lined up for the NSR mounting srews to thread into the barrel nut. SO after all the above info, was the under tourqued barrel nut the cause of my problems with the groups going both ways and almost bottoming out my rear sight on windage? Will re-tourquing the barrel nut to the propper specs as it is now solve my problem? What else have I overlooked? :help:
  7. When I bought my Spikes a few years ago I was able to choose the barrel that went with the upper and I picked out a Daniel Defense 16" Cold Hammer Forged Barrel 1:7 twist and it shoots bugholes. I was talking to a rep from Spikes last week and they are about to produce thier own CHF barrels. I love my Spikes I've had it for about 6 years and have about 2000 or so rounds through it. I just recently gave it a face lift and did some work to it. As much as I like my Armalite AR-10 Spikes is my go to for the smaller stuff. The funny thing is I HATE spiders which is thier logo lol.
  8. No sad to say I have not done a range report on her yet. I dont start gouping until about 300 rnds down the tube I'm allmost there. I know from just shooting CBC at 100 yds its under 1 moa I bet shes every bit a .5 MOA gun with FGMM though. As far as the Nightforce, Its awesome I can use that scope as a carry handle if I wanted. Itsvery clear, thier customer service will take care of any issues the Lit reticle is nice. The cross hairs are more fine than other scopes. The scopes are modular so if I bend the bell it can be replaced at the factory and back to me in a few weeks. I will not buy anything but NF for a scoped rifle.
  9. My wife and I are thinking about visiting Az , were gonna be in Vegas towards Sept. on vacation. I love it out west especially around Lake Mead its jsut so damn georgeous and tone of room.
  10. Severe mental instability, people not on thier meds or people on a heavy dose of drugs can make people do some really whacked out $hit. They also have almost super human strenght, i.e. crazy strong.
  11. Welcome, once you go 308 the 5.56 is an expensive lego like cap gun lol. Might not hurt to update your mags and mag release that wil solve that issue. Light primer strikes on surplus ammo is 1 of 2 things. The type of ammo / primer and too light of a hammer spring not striking the primer with enough ass to ignite the primer. If light primer strikes happen on standard ammo then you will want to replace the hammer spring and its a cheap and easy fix.
  12. I just received my rails and railcovers for my new Noveske NSR Rail. I am waiting for my Aimpoint rubber cover. I just blew way too much money on the rail, a new Spikes Tactical GEN 2 Billet Upper, Magpul UBR w/ strikeplate, Noveske / Magpul Ambi Safety, Odin Extended Mag release and Magpul BAD Lever and a Raptor Charging Handle, finished off by a Troy Claymore.......My wallet is empty
  13. I just bought a Spikes Gen 2 Billet and put a Noveske NSR 15 rail on it. Its is so freaking light and well built. I just got the Bravo Company USA nylon key-mod rails to run my surefire X300 Ultra with tape switch. The rails are half the cost of the aluminum and weigh even less. I am debating if I am going to keep the Seekins SBA-15 I have on back order or hold out for the new Spikes Tactical Billet Compressor lower that is a work of art. If you want I can put pics of the Spikes Upper and Noveske Rail, I am hoping to have the upper all done and put together this weekend at the latest. I am using a Daniel Defense 16" CHF barrel with a 1/7 twist and YHM flash hider, BCM charging handle, Spike BCG, troy flips and my Aimpoint PRO
  14. Then it's fukin haha funny.
  15. Ya know, I have access to both indoor and outdoor that I can shoot select fire weapons at without any trouble. I'd be more than glad to return your trigger to you and do a write up if anyone is interested :auto: I went to a new indoor range and was doing some drills with my AR-15 and one of the range guys said he needed to check my rifle because he said it sounded full auto, I laughed opened the rifle up and showed him its was a 2 stage trigger and a semi BCG. Being the smart ass I can be I opened up my bag and showed him the MP-5 SD I had checked out and shot that, he shat himself. Thats about the only thing I miss about not being a swat guy anymore is access to the cool toys.
  16. Thank you, when she's clean and the sun hits, it's gorgeous, the white has gold flake in it and the pewter has a silver / chrome flake in it. I have only seen 3 like this a Road King, I have the Road King Classic and a Springer Softail.
  17. It's a personal preference, and that being said it's still a good sight.
  18. I had one, and sold it for my aimpoint. Eotechs are great but I dont like the reticle. I forgot that the other reason I traded out was becasue after 4 hours it shut down. I though it was a pain in the a$$ to remember to reach over and remove the rifle from the crusier mount and turn it back on halfway through my shift.
  19. Here's my other money pit 2009 H.D. white gold and pewter, stage 1 intake and screaming eagle exhaust. I just got the Boom audio speeakers for Chistmas and will be putting them on this year. ">http://http://s1271.photobucket.com/user/21Zebra44/media/IMG_0084.jpg.html'>
  20. They are also looking into passing the use of suppressors to use for hunting  . It's difficult to find a Chief L.E.O. now a days that will sign on your paperwork, requiring the use of a trust. If this passes it will make things easier. In my part of Ohio it's still pretty gun friendly.
  21. I held one tonight and wow it made the billet aluminum lower in the other hand feel very weighty.
  22. sweet thank you
  23. I just picked up a Noveske NSR Keymod for my new AR 15 / M-4 build. its a 15'' rail and weighs in a 11 ounces its rugged and damn light compared to my current Troy free float. I dont know what companies make keymods for the AR-10 platform, but you might want to look into that also. I understand about the college, I just decided to finish up and its expensive.
  24. I could really use one of the tactical triggers for a build for my new duty AR, or to just feel one before buying. I am going light and switching from an all Spikes with a DD Barrel and Troy free float quad to a Seekins Billet upper and lower with a Noveske NSR Key Mod and damn its light. I'll also be taking off my flip Troy's and Aimpoint Pro, Surefire x300 with tape switch and putting them on this build. Now that I am no longer on SWAT becuase of a series of ortho issues, I can run something lighter and nicer and not worry so much about beating the hell out of it. I'd rather support a fellow member / vendor if possible just let me know. Thanks Tom I owe ya one.
  25. Has anyone that owns one taken a trigger pull gauge and tested the pull weight as the max setting? Also what is the diffrence between the NM and thier tactical rifle model besides pull weight, does anyone have one?
