  1. Very cool, you could wind up with more toys than anyone else here!
  2. Welcome! I'm probably not the only guy looking forward to hearing more about your DPMS Gen II.
  3. Manufacture, but not purchase from a manufacturer?
  4. Can you see car makers doing this because of their contracts with labor unions? Making excess cars might be cheaper than massive layoffs.
  5. That's a nice looking weapon. http://www.impactguns.com/bond-arms-snakeslayer-45lc-410-bass-855959001161.aspx
  6. Looks like once you get a trust set up, you can buy and sell machine guns.... "it appears that ATF recently changed that dynamic when it held that an “unincorporated trust” was not a “person” under the Gun Control Act." --Did ATF’s Determination on NICS Checks Open the Door for Manufacture of New Machineguns for Trusts? - Prince Law Offices - May 14, 2014 http://blog.princelaw.com/2014/05/14/did-atfs-determination-on-nics-checks-open-the-door-for-manufacture-of-new-machineguns-for-trusts/
  7. With an FFL, do you automatically get the right to possess and shoot full-auto machine guns etc.?
  8. Half of all people are below average, there's no other way it could be. It's for the same reason that everyone dies within 6 months of their birthday.
  9. Just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods here in Iowa. I was there to get a paper target holder and asked him if he had .22lr. He said he had no .22lr. He also said that he doesn't get .22lr. Now this guy has been working there for at least 2 years. I asked him, do you mean the hoarders aren't getting any from you, he said yes. I asked him, are the hoarders are getting .22lr before his store does, he said, it doesn't seem likely. I asked him if he had any .308, he said no, he doesn't get that, either. But dang do they have as many rifles for sale as you'd ever want to buy. There just ain't no ammo fer 'em. The guy at Dave's blamed the government for him having only shotgun ammo, but he wasn't sure how they were keeping his shelves empty.
  10. Balance the cost of you buying head spacing gauging, for what may be a one-time. use vs. taking it to a gunsmith who already has the stuff and a lot of other expertise to offer.
  11. A lighter rifle generally means bigger recoil. I'd like to hear about that -- and also if the Slash heavy buffer fits.
  12. My website would be a monster if I did pix of everything. I just shot up some targets this afternoon. If you want to see the the latest results, just go here and scroll down to "Three other kinds of ammo". Turns out, there's a wide range of quality in .22lr ammo. And a wide range of things you can do to improve a Ruger 10/22. If you noodle around, though, you'll find a few pix of blasted targets.
  13. Dang that is so nasty. I see crazy stuff like that being sold at gun shows and wonder if anyone ever shoots them critters. There's even things that pack .45 cal. that are disguised behind a belt buckle. For collecting on gambling debts or executing cheaters, whatever. This is probably the price paid for not having crazy regulations on the gun industry. There would be like inflatable air bags on the butt of every 12-gauge shotgun firing 1-oz. slugs.
  14. I would imagine getting findings like hooks, snaps and buckles eat money pretty fast. I can see custom orders taking time, too. Make sure you pay yourself well for a quality product! My DPMS LR-308T uses an Uncle Mike's detachable on the front, on the far end of the free-float tube. But, I put a one-hole thingamabobber just behind the receiver, and that takes what I believe is an H&K snap hook. So I have two different kinds of attachment on one sling. That uses a Limbsaver rubbery-strappy thingie in the middle that makes it comfy to carry.
  15. I have to wonder how good it would work for distant shots when you're holding over the target. The triangle might block what you're shooting at.
  16. This study about veterans and crime gets cited a lot. http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=buy.optionToBuy&id=2012-26670-001 Basically, it shows that vets with PTSD are more likely to be arrested than those without PTSD. All fine and good so far as it goes. The problem is that civilians also get PTSD, and this study does not show that veterans are more likely than civilians to be arrested. I think we're looking at an urban myth created by libtards. The fundamental notion is that a close association with firearms makes people prone to shooting a lot, and especially shooting at people. It's a way of ignoring the real problem: that a certain group of males aged 18 to 40 make up around 4 percent of the US population but commit nearly half of all violent crime, regardless of military service.
  17. Sheesh. Okay, there's a story behind that. See, we took in a lot of stray cats from relatives who were moving into apartments, and they couldn't take their cats along. We live on a farm, so of course, we got the cats. And as cats will do, they make more cats. I have the impression that cats really enjoy making more cats, because that's what they did. And then we were hip-deep in cats, which is not as bad as being hip-deep in alligators, but, even so, the critters do tend to eat a lot. So we're taking all of these cats, and their offspring, over to the veterinarian for being 'fixed". They take female cats on Thursday, and males on Friday. Well, TactiCat went in on a Thursday, Just seemed to be that sort of cat. We get a phone call. Turns out that TactiCat is actually male. So, as it turns out, TactiCat (this one) was totally black-ops incognito. And he's totally got mouse-foo going on. We had a mouse on the kitchen floor. Tacti-Cat moved fast after it, which is hard, because it's a tile floor, there's no traction there. Our two dogs, both German shepherd mix, scramble after the cat. They love it when a cat runs and are totally all over it. TactiCat ignores the dogs, gets whooped into the air by TactiDog1, and comes back onto the ground, with the mouse firmly in his teeth. Mouse dies, dogs get cussed out. So even if TactiCat's gender was mistaken due to his covert skills, he totally did cat-foo on that mouse while two 80-lb. dogs were interfering with TactiCat's area denial. So, HE is one heckuva cat, anc certainly certified as able to assess modifications to an LR 308.
  18. And his buddies, too, and all of their horses. US Veterans are being criminalized. Here are some tidbits. You will not be surprised to learn that people who sell mental cures are all over this like snot on Kleenex. 19. Please pardon the ignorance of this Iowa farm boy, but what "exotics" are running around on what the Texans boastfully declare to be actual dirt? Iowa is tops in the nation for hog production, come on. Are we talking about "exotic Texas hogs" running around in the mesquite? Do they have psychedelic fur? That would be California hogs.
  20. "He always carried it [the rifle] everywhere he went,” Anthony Parham said. "He always carried it at low, ready. He didn't have it in a case -- it was out." Parham said he didn’t think Mahdinec was dangerous and often saw Mahdinec playing with a child outside. -- Police: Man fires assault rifle in fit of road rage - WSOC TV - May 15, 2014 http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/police-loaded-rifle-found-car-after-road-rage-inci/nfxPk/
  21. Indiana Gets US Military Weapons to Fight Returning US Veterans - Opposing Views - May 16, 2014 http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/crime/indiana-gets-us-military-weapons-fight-returning-us-veterans-video [excerpts] Indiana sheriffs and police chiefs claim they need the military weaponry to protect the public from former U.S. military vets who are heavily armed. “When I first started we really didn’t have the violence that we see today,” said Sgt. Dan Downing of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. “The weaponry is totally different now that it was in the beginning of my career, plus, you have a lot of people who are coming out of the military that have the ability and knowledge to build IEDs and to defeat law enforcement techniques.” The Morgan County SWAT Team got a free $650,000 Mine Resistant Vehicle (MRAP) from the U.S. military, which will be used in hostage situations.
  22. It only looks like it, that's because the cats are related. 42d cousins, 1,947 times removed. Or thereabouts.
  23. As noted earlier, the point of replacing the receiver was, of all things, to make things compatible with the front sight. Here is a picture of TactiCat inspecting the front sight, after it's been readjusted during bore sighting. You'll notice the sight has been moved rearward from the muzzle. That is to adjust the visual proportions of the front blade where it sits in the notch in the rear leaf. TactiCat obviously approves.
  24. Something similar to this happened with my Marlin 9mm 'Camp' rifle. I bought an extended (25-round) magazine for it. If I loaded more than 5 rounds into the magazine, it would not feed. The problem was that the cartridges were ever so slightly too long for the internal dimensions of the magazine, and would jam. Or, stated the other way around, the internal dimensions of the magazine were ever so slightly too small. But, and this is an important caveat, I was unable to load more than 5 rounds. These were factory ammo and an aftermarket magazine. No problems at all with factory ammo and the factory mags.
