  1. In the aftermath of the police ambush, the shooters ran on foot to a Wal-Mart. Some will say that what happened later shows concealed carry is ineffective and therefore bad -- but so far, the press has handled the issue fairly. A patron at the store who carried a firearm confronted Jerad Miller, not realizing that he was accompanied by Amanda Miller, who shot and killed the man, police said. He was identified as 31-year-old Joseph Wilcox of Las Vegas. "Joseph died trying to protect others," Sheriff Doug Gillespie said. --Police probe ties between Vegas shooters, Bundy - WSVN - June 9, 2014 http://www.wsvn.com/story/25730398/las-vegas-police-identify-suspects-in-vegas-police-ambush
  2. Dang, I get "file not found" on that link.
  3. Dude, you are totally hooked up.
  4. Would buffer work? The price is right.
  5. "Obama has provided material assistance (human assets) to the Taliban, which has been identified by Congress to be a non-state terrorist organization. This is a crime punishable by imprisonment of 10 years to life, which covers all Americans–including the President." -- Obama Could Be Facing 10 Years To Life In Prison… - Western Journalism - June 6, 2014 http://www.westernjournalism.com/judge-napolitano-obama-aided-abetted-enemy/#zvFkBusCY8aVe1zd.99
  6. OK, here ya go! Click on the thumbnail for a bigger version.
  7. You'll see a pic if you scroll to the top of the thread. I could put up a pic of me wearing it, but... well, it's concealed carry, so you would never know if there's a holstered pistol anywhere in the pic. Catch-22
  8. This makes be wonder if the Ruger 10/22 rifle is like a "gateway drug" to the AR-type machines. :))
  9. Day-umm. And here in Iowa all we get is Led Robster®. Or whatever that restaurant chain is. I'm still waiting for the day when invasive-species tiger shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico is on the menu. These shrimp eat smaller shrimp and get huge. Rumor is, they are tasty and two of them is a meal.
  10. That is very cool. Of course you never tried it out, so there's no point in asking how well it works. >:D Thanks for adding the part number. Now I, too, can make sure not to use that combination of innocent things. >:D
  11. Shibi, believe it or not, no. I post something light-hearted, I get slammed for lack of being serious, and vice versa. This is very strange, but I'm working on resilience. After all, this is basically a friendly group.
  12. Not over-thinking. And what about shrapnel from an exploding oil filter casing? If I was doing the deed, I'd drill a hole in the casing first.
  13. Many thanks to you guys for your insights and recommendations for what to look for in a holster. The unit I got from D.M. Bullard perfectly matched what you said about a holster without a strap across the back. Talk about being "tailored"! The sidearm fits perfectly. And it's wicked-good designed to snug up tight against me. The picture they have doesn't do it complete justice. How would they know just how my belt rides and how things line up? It's pure genius. This is an unpaid, unplanned endorsement.
  14. OK guys I'm laughing along with y'all... there's times when it's hard to tell what's dead serious here and when not. I'm still learning.
  15. 1,000 yards with iron sights, that's shooting.
  16. With a fish that size, you could really say, you got 'steaks' off of it.
  17. It depends on the firearm. On an AR-pattern rifle, if the oil filter is 4 inches or less in diameter, you should be able to sight over it with standard iron sights. Would probably not work with some BUIS that's out there. It would be fun to play with one of these on the muzzle of a .308. One interesting thing is that the oil filter is vented at the base, toward the shooter. I would imagine that the BATFE doesn't even approve of unlicensed experiments, though. And in the US, every parcel of mail is photographed, and the photos are stored for later search of who sent something to whom. The latest incident of sending anthrax through the mail was solved by the Post Office using this system.
  18. The legal opinion at that link does seem to be a bit on the strange side, but takes the ATF's recent decision rather literally.
  19. Matt, I'm sorry, I can't find a link in your post. Timing a brake to 18:48:00 seems pretty radical, as my work on the 'cant' of front sights indicated that far, far less of a deviation from noon/six induced some serious errors. And I'm not sure this can be explained with pictures. In short, what's the reason for not strictly sticking to horizontal/vertical? And what justifies a deviation by 48 minutes? In theory, this issue would also plague guys who don't have muzzle devices. Maybe they need a brake with a cant to shoot straight. That would include guys like me.
  20. That is very cool to know. So now I have to wonder what a Harley-Davidson sticker does to a Ford pickup. It must be pretty awesome, because this street-mod is all over around here.
  21. Didn't see any link for the pix, but even so, what's the explanation for not doing things at noon/six? I've heard things about barrel torque induced by rifling, but nothing that required that much dangle of the angle.
  22. Those of us who admire your boundless wisdom, such as my humble and curious self, would be glad to hear from you about why you have selected this particular timing, and whether that timing is viewed from the trigger or muzzle end of the rifle.
  23. Just imagine my glee. I was across the highway to the rental place, with an Allis Chalmers and a belly mower trying to make the City (and the next-door neighbor) happy with the grass cuttage. I was in the garage borrowing a 1/2" box-end wrench to drop out the battery & cables -- oh, well. It's all a long story. But while I was in the garage, I found the perfectly-sized cardboard box for shipping out that Trijicon sight to the lucky purchaser. All I need now is to print an attractive mailing label -- and to help that along, the sale price is now lower. Yours for $400. PM me.
