  1. That's good news; I haven't gotten mine yet, but am hopeful that it will be soon, and that there will be no issues on the Rainier side of things.
  2. Next you'll end up subscribed to the email notification lists of all the usual suspects. Primary Arms just ran a couple 15% off coupons for Geissele triggers, for instance...
  3. Another option is the Troy ambi release and seekins billet button. That combination seems to work perfectly for me, and I love the Troy ambi catch. -edit- nvm, for some reason my brain processed mag release instead of bolt catch.
  4. Yup, they absolutely will headspace to a bolt you buy from them or to a bolt you provide yourself (provided you include the info in the order details) for free.
  5. Thanks, wash. I'm still waiting on the Aero one, but I've had it preordered, and it's theoretically going to ship sometime this month. I'll probably need another for the 16" build I'm likely to do thanks to you all, and the fact that I have an upper sitting around... If it gets too much longer I'll absolutely be in touch. That's a great price, and I really appreciate the offer.
  6. PA-10 and PTAC-10 are different things, from what I understand. They said they eventually will be fixing the PA-10. The PTAC-10 was already out, marked cal multi, but is NOT the updated PA-10 that they mentioned. The only people I've heard sound satisfied are the ones who bought all PSA parts, and frankly, PSA parts don't cut it for me, unless I just want a battle rifle. And while the rifle may work fine, the same can be said of pretty much every other gun in a similar price range, and pretty much all of THOSE will take other parts. If PSA goes under, or stops making the PA-10, those people who were previously satisfied will be SOL for product support. The folks who bought Aero Precision, Mega, etc, will be just fine. Of course, that's supposing that PSA doesn't end up fixing the PA-10 as they advised me that they would.
  7. Totaled the build up today. 2163.87 before optics, but including bipod. Not too shabby, considering the parts list. Will be around 3800 total when I'm completely done, with optics and SJBS (and some of the parts will then end up on the next upper).
  8. That's what I read too. That guy was an idiot.
  9. Got the last stuff ordered. I went with the AAC suggestion, but got it from Primary Arms, who has it on sale right now. Also grabbed a bipod and keymod rail. I have to admit, I can't wait for Aero to ship those BCG's. They said late December, and they've got all of 2 days left of that...
  10. I think DRD has. I've finished the lower build, but am waiting on Aero to ship the BCG's so I can get my barrel and get it finished up completely. What did you need/want to know?
  11. Hmm. I've seen the FFP one for 750-800 on a few different sites. Less than that if you don't mind a demo model.
  12. How about North Korea's internet being down now, Seems like either someone followed through on their threats, or else North Korea uses Comcast, as the jokes have been going.
  13. Nope, no tally. I'm staying away from that... I'll have to go back and look through my parts list and credit card bills. I think I did pretty well though. Bought most everything on sale. Aero has blem 308 lowers on sale right now, FYI. I'm bound for San Antonio. Not sure I'm allowed to define the rule or not, so I'll just leave you to do a little more research, or let one of the others tell ya. Thanks for the feedback on the Vortex scopes. I'll look at that Sightron, but the PST does seem like it will be a great buy.
  14. Woof. That scope appears to be almost double the PST. The reticle is cool, but not at close to 1500, when the PST I can get for 750 most places.
  15. I put a SCS and adjustable gas block in my build. Haven't had much of a chance to test it out as I'm still waiting on barrel. I would think the SCS really would shine in suppressed systems, as if you're looking to make it silent, eliminating the "sproing" would not be a bad thing.
  16. The grip profile was always my least favorite part of the M9. It's pretty wide, and people with smaller hands may find it impossible to get a proper grip. I think they made good changes for the intended purpose. Whether it will be enough to beat out the other candidates remains to be seen, but it certainly makes me like the M9 more. My favorite 9mm (PPQ) isn't likely to be in the mix, however. And there are a LOT of superb pistols out there. As far as 9mm goes, isn't the military still prevented from using modern ammunition (hollowpoints and the like)? There's not really a considerable difference between the diameters of the 9mm and the .45 (2.43 mm, in fact). I always found the ".45 makes a bigger hole" argument to be missing any real basis in physics. It seems to me that if there's a difference in stopping power it would be more about energy at impact and how it transfers that energy, but even that pales in comparison to shot placement. And the 9 DOES have the considerable advantage of having MORE rounds to place, if your first ones don't do the job.
  17. Thanks for the suggestion, McCannicalBob. I'll take a look at that scope. I keep hearing that the FSC is very loud, and the PRC is designed to be quieter for the shooter and others on the line? Obviously need to do more research.
  18. Well, all hope is not lost. You can just use all PSA parts if you want a functional rifle.
  19. That's also what she said. What happened to the pics on this? I know it got necroposted and all, but as long as it's back, I wouldn't mind seeing some glory shots of the build.
  20. It will be interesting to see the direction this all goes. Interesting to see who else might be involved.
  21. Well, for my part, I'm appreciative of being included in the community, razzing and all. I think some of the shenanigans around here are hilarious (and I love that you have The Rule). I think some of the members even newer than me have a tough time realizing the difference between friendly teasing and actually being a jerk. But there's also often a correlation between being thin-skinned, and posting as if you're an expert and everyone else needs to listen to you without doing any reading to learn what's what and who's who in the community. My dad always said you learn a lot more with open ears and mind than open mouth, and that's something I've tried to take to heart in my internet doings. Back on topic, is there some reason I should avoid the PWS PRC compensator? I know a lot of people get the FSC instead, but for precision, is there something else I'm missing that would be better than the PRC? Also, I wouldn't mind any advice if there's any alternatives to the 6-24x50 Vortex Viper PST in a similar budget range that I should be researching. I appreciate all the advice and suggestions and help that you all have offered. I would certainly have had a much tougher time doing this build without you all, and may do a post-xmas giveaway, if the forum rules permit such, in thanks.
  22. This part of your post was the main thing I really took issue with, and mainly because it was unnecessarily combative, and flat out demonstrated that you just didn't understand the nature of the issues that people have been experiencing. Truth of the matter is, you were wrong in your assertions here. I provided evidence so you could update your opinions. Nothing against you personally, although you may want to refrain from calling people "kitchen gunsmiths in over there heads" (grammatical mistake not mine), especially when you didn't take the time to understand WHY people were actually having the issues. It had nothing to do with fitment, and everything to do with PSA's multiple screw-ups. I'm glad your rifle works, and that the RRA trigger you have seems to work with it as well. That's useful information for anyone else who buys a PA-10 lower thinking that the information on the website is accurate, and then discovers that not all the aftermarket triggers will function correctly as claimed. More, I don't actually have a "grudge" against PSA. I'm perfectly willing to buy and use their AR-15 parts, etc, and have been very happy with the AR-15's I've built. I've also seen sufficient evidence to suggest that if you use exclusively PSA parts, it seems to function fine, as your example further demonstrates. There's nothing particularly wrong with doing that, especially for a battle rifle build. I wouldn't doubt that you'll be hard pressed to beat the value for that type of rifle out of a strict PA-10 build. But some of us want more from our rifles than just what PSA has to offer, and if you later change your mind about upgrades and the like, the lack of compatibility for a PA-10 puts it at a disadvantage compared to, for instance, the Aero Precision M5, which can be built at a very similar price point. As far as my comments about their business practices and ethics, I just happen to find it questionable. I don't find it despicable enough for me to stop doing business with them, and it's certainly no skin off of my back whether or not you buy from them. I have PSA stuff I really like. The PA-10 debacle was enough for me to want to avoid their 308 AR offerings for the time being. I spent a lot of time emailing back and forth (and getting no response to phone calls) just to find out that the compatibility information they had advertised (and in some cases still advertise) on their website was incorrect. They DID do right by me in terms of their customer service once it was clear they had screwed up, which is why I still do business with them. But it certainly looks like they didn't do extensive enough testing to make sure they really got it right, and that doesn't inspire confidence. If you're happy with your gun, I'm really happy for you. Just because I don't find their quality good enough doesn't mean that you should be any less proud of your gun. And, with respect, I'll add the same advice I do to anyone who gets all upset over getting corrected on the internet after having said something rude. It's the internet. It really does serve to have a thick skin. If you can't handle a disagreement without calling people douches, etc, you probably don't belong in any internet community at all. In my experience, the people on here have been very helpful and nice, although there's a fair amount of friendly teasing, just like there would be among most any group of friends. And, you knew from the get-go that you hadn't been exactly polite and tactful (otherwise why make the comment "I know how to make an entrance"?). If you can't take it, you certainly shouldn't dish it. I hope you'll get over your hurt feelings and stick around. I do think you'll find this community worthwhile if you can take the razzing. -edit- Nevermind. I guess he's been banned. Hopefully not on my account. By his own admission, he's a forum noob.
  23. Well, I for one missed this one the first time around, and enjoyed the read, especially watching the cocky "expert" get the smackdown.
  24. The thing that worries me is that if they're off-spec to the point at which an aftermarket trigger in regular use won't work, what else did they get wrong? And I especially don't like that they KNOW that they screwed up, haven't updated the site to reflect the issues (the claim I referenced above constitutes false advertising, which is illegal), and are still selling the defective lowers. That really turns me off of the PA-10. I'm fine with their AR-15 stuff, and have no qualms about using the stuff that's established. But even if you build a full PA-10 rifle with all their parts (despite their initial claims about being fully DPMS compatible outside of a few parts, which turned out to be inaccurate), who's to say there's not some other issue? 308 AR's are expensive enough that, even without the risk of injury, I still want to do everything I can to minimize the risk of a kaboom. More, it's a bunch of crap to say that the customers are to blame for choosing cross-platform compatibility, when Palmetto State Armory themselves had initially claimed that the PA-10 is fully DPMS compatible. Here's another email I received directly from PSA Customer Service: DPMS Gen 1 style upper receivers will mate with our lowers and vice versa. There are many manufacturers making these complete uppers. This is where the 308 is different from the AR15. The individual part dimensions in the 308 platform are not the same. CMMG uppers can bolt to our lowers, but the individual parts like the barrel and BCG will not work with our barrel and BCG. The front and rear takedown pins, bolt catch, and buffer tube are unique to our lower. We are the only source for those parts at this time. The BCG and barrel use a dpms style barrel extension and receiver thread, so a DPMS BCG will function in our upper. But, because DPMS does not put forward assist serrations in their carriers, the forward assist function will not work. Thank you, Customer Service Palmetto State Armory (803) 724-6950 Info@palmettostatearmory.com That seems pretty clear. DPMS Gen 1 stuff SHOULD be compatible, according to PSA. They advertised it as such, and IIRC, originally claimed on the website it was compatible as well. So, if anyone is to blame for thinking that it would be cross-platform compatible, it's sure not the customers. Having been in and bought one of the very first ones (before they even released a LBK, and having been told that they had no idea when parts would be released), I can personally attest to the fact that PSA had no idea what was or was not compatible, and most of the testing was done by the customers based on incorrect reports and advertising from PSA. As for "kitchen gunsmiths," I'm personally more worried about someone who didn't do his research enough to find these things out, "read" through an entire thread and then posted in it blaming the person reporting the issues (and the company's responses and general lack of knowledge about their own product) without realizing what the issues were. Seems like one should be more concerned about their own gun if that's the level of attention to detail that we can expect.
  25. Rainier is 30 minutes from Aero, as it happens.
