  1. I love my Walthers. Eventually I need a new P99AS in 9mm, and a P99C. I will have to see if I want the PPS. Right now I carry a PPQ.
  2. Very true. The only information relative to my shooting ability on the sheet that's going to the government is "passed."
  3. I feel the same way pretty frequently. I've never really lived anywhere outside of Colorado for more than a month or two, so it's pretty weird still. Would rather have gotten to move to Washington, TBH, but that will happen later. In the meantime, Texas is a pretty cool state, with a lot of unique opportunities. Had to retake the CHL class due to Texas law, even despite the open carry stuff. Fubbed a shot, and missed making perfect though. Can't wait to try out the 308 here.
  4. I'm now officially in San Antonio. Will have to hit some of y'all up when I get a chance.
  5. That Memorial Day sale was something else. If I'd had some expendable income, rather than having it all sucked dry by my move, I'd have jumped on board that one. I think it would have panned out to around 30% off. I expect we'll see another great sale from them for the 4th of July, and I hope to have enough cash for another lower. I have that upper sitting around, and it needs to be a full rifle. I blame you all for that mentality. Aero sells their own BCG, which I am quite pleased with, FYI.
  6. A few in-progress pics of my current project: Looks pretty long if you're staring down the blade.
  7. Nooooooo, whatEVER shall we DO? I agree that it would have been funnier to have the site redirect somewhere or otherwise be shut down. But hey, what can you do.
  8. Some people do not learn. Not only did he not check the date stamp, he also didn't even read the rest of this page. It lives again!
  9. 189.10 at ManVenture Outpost. Out of stock, but they restock pretty quickly, often.
  10. Damn. Nice clean work. Good on you!
  11. Very nice. 16" rifle length FTW! One of those might be just the ticket for my spare Aero upper.
  12. What do you mean by width? It was 1/4" thick, IIRC, and around 2.25" at the widest point, I believe. Something like that, anyways. Fairly similar measurements to a 16" Ang Khola.
  13. I've shot a fair amount of the 9mm and .40 stuff. Seems to fire just fine.
  14. Nice tip. Also, hooray for someone who knows how to spell "voila." I read an article in Guns America or something similar today in which the author spelled it "whalla." I'm sure the guy knows his guns, but it's still nice to see someone who doesn't spell phonetically.
  15. Good man. Now it actually works. <thumbsup>
  16. Thing about that one is that it can't actually be "Luck Be In The Air Tonight," because the "I" is already out for In and Tonight. Thus, since it's not "AI_" your options become rather more limited, internet not withstanding. Probably fake, or exactly what you think it is.
  17. I don't have any particular experience with JP barrels, but I do know a little about metallurgy. Cryo can be great, depending on the steel and the equipment and skill of the people doing the heat treat. I would expect JP to do a good job with both. The short version is that, depending on what was done to the steel in the shaping and pre-heat treat process, it may have work-related stresses, and cryo treatment can normalize that, lead to finer carbide development, and thus more wear resistance (read, barrel life). If the company is reputable, and I daresay JP is, and does a good job with their heat and cryo treatments, it's likely a benefit. How substantial a benefit may remain open to interpretation, but all other things being equal, a cryo-treated barrel is likely to be a better one. That, of course, requires all other things to be equal, and to have a steel that can really benefit from cryo-treatment, and the heat and cryo treatment to be done well. -edit- I think JP uses 416R, and that's not a particularly complex steel, so it may not benefit much from cryo. I think Shilen has research to indicate the same, and you'll note from the manufacturer's spec sheet that cryo isn't indicated to maximize performance. It won't hurt it, but it's not necessary. https://www.crucible.com/eselector/prodbyapp/stainless/cru416rs.html Other steels can benefit quite a bit, however, and some, like my personal favorite cutlery steel (CPM 3V) actually require a cryogenic plate quench.
  18. Maybe more of a concern if you're shooting suppressed? I like the JP SCS, but I can definitely see how many would consider it a solution looking for a problem.
  19. I'm in the Parker area, but leaving in April, as my wife is getting stationed at Fort Sam Houston for the next few years.
  20. the DPMS bolt catch works fine in mine so far... I've got a Troy mag release and Seekins button and those work great too, in case you want more options. It does sound like the AR-10 bolt catch may work better though.
  21. AR500 Armor is only 65 bucks a plate if you don't mind flat. 85 for curved. More for the level 4 stuff, and more if you want some of their soft armor, which stops pistol threats at around a pound per plate. The level 3 stops .223 of all varieties, and has lots of YouTube videos. If you're military, they offer further discounts as well.
  22. They're a little more than 100 most places. I do really like mine though. Works great; recoil is pretty negligible, and it's smooth and quiet.
  23. That probably means they generated a shipping label. It will likely go out tomorrow.
  24. SLR has great CS in my experience too, and pretty fast shipping. I look forward to your review.
