  1. Hey hey Halo, keeping your barrels sharp these days I see ;)
  2. Robocop, that's hilarious, insightful and appreciated. And actually, this is the only forum I’m in. Wasn’t looking for the intellectual fodder I saw in AR15.joke, was lurking comments until I found the peeps who knew what they were talking about. That’s y’all. And just so y’all know, in case we ever meet in the real world, anyone smacks me in the nuts is going to have a problem. Just sayin’ ;)

Welcome JRoss. Like me, at 308AR.com you've found a great source of professional gunsmithing & shooting information! And just downright good people too.
  4. Want to know the extent of my US military small-arms training? USAF bootcamp @ Lackland AFB San Antonio TX: 1 day we marched to a firing range, fired a few rounds at a paper target from a 22LR mod AR15 no less, then never saw another weapon that didn't go on an airplane. Never once palmed a handgun, in the military I mean. Dad's shooting instruction (who was an amazing shooter, at paper or fleeing deer) was "If you ain't gonna eat it don't shoot it, unless it's trying to kill you."
  5. Thanks guys (& gals if any). beantown, EngrBob, washguy (Wash), shepp, ArmedEyeDoc, Malig8r, jtallen83, TooIndie7 & planeflyer21, it's good to meet all of you.
  6. If you're passing by the Longview area sometime & have time to stop, holler & I'll buy you a steak. You can leave the tip ;)
  7. Just east of you out I20 & closer to Louisiana. From the Big D area it's about 2-2.5 hrs
  8. Thank you sir. Live recorded range data is certainly better than a web app, the app is just a starting guideline for a rookie like me. When I put a scope on a target and it hits 9" diagonally off center, you can see my eyebrow do a twitch like the old cartoon deputy dog saying "duh which way did he go?!" But gotta respect the men who put in the time and duty you have. Best Regards
  9. Greetings from Texas. Been around a month or so and keep hearin' about this Intro area and sure enough here she is. So howdy, keep yer brands hot, yer women warm & yer rifle ready to hunt where the deer & the antelope play.
  10. mrmackc, sir, giving heed to your honorable history of NRA instruction (especially for the kids, IMHO) (and the fact that you're a Texan like Wash & I) could you be so kind as to to offer your advice for someone trying to utilize the capabilities of a BDC reticle scope? I have a Nikon 2.5x10 Prostaff 5 in BDC and use the Nikon website's app to record the ballistics info about individual loads used, to know where that particular load will fall on the scope's BDC reticle indicators (what ARE those little circles below centerpoint called ANYWAY??? lol) I know the first circle below centerpoint can be zeroed for 100yds or 200yds, and if I zero to 200 then Nikon's app info might place the round as landing at 192yds (for example). If you were lining up for a shot using the BDC, how much mental calculation would be going into estimating the actual impact point between those little circle?s (windage being another subject for my purposes here) Or, do I have even a rudimentary understanding of how to properly use a BDC and what advice would you have about it? Also, what are your favorite optics for precision shooting?
  11. Love it. That's the right kind of file for sure
  12. Is there a DGT (don't go there) list? Need to put those guys in the proper file...
  13. Compete with AR15? There is no competition, 308's RULE. Same goes for the forums.
  14. If I needed to reach 1000yds accurately, I'd lay down the 308 and shoulder my Browning X-Bolt 338 Mag. Not sayin' the 308 won't do it, the 338 just does it better.
  15. Mmmm, Chillin Sammich. Kinda stale though, been sitting here since 2015 I reckon. Oh well, a boy has to eat, lol
  16. Haha no worries Wash, your drift has been coming across crystal clear! I think it's a great looking rail but I would prefer the clamp-screw connection, now that I see how well the SLR mounted up. I still think it would be a good light-duty rail, sparing it any heavy bouncing on a bipod.
  17. I think I'll ask for a return, since they recommended it for my DPMS upper, and use a different rail for my other build.
  18. I love cleaning my guns but not anyone else's haha
  19. Not that I know of and I agree about the list. Makes me wonder what's different about them.
  20. 82HALO, this is a message I received from Fortis when I asked which uppers fit their high-profile HG's w/o the gap... The upper receivers I'd recommend that line up almost perfectly without the gap are: Rainier Arms (I believe they only have one type)Mega ArmsCross Machine Tool (CMTTac.com)I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any more questions. Tony
  21. May have found some of the pieces to the puzzle. The Juggernaut Tactical complete upper is the DPMS hi-profile pattern so it should fit the Fortis HG, is made to fit well with the Juggernaut lowers, and both are competitively priced. Any pro/con input on Juggernaut Tactical products?
  22. A 16" 7.62x51 NATO in stainless nitride, headspaced to my bolt for my birthday, would help!
  23. Yes I remember yours, I'm just wondering how many uppers the Fortis will fit without a gap or if the APF is one of them. On the Fortis website there are pics that appear to have very little gap but they look like they're on the $500+ Cross Machine Tool upper/lower matched set that's out of stock anyway. I don't think I want to spend that much to eliminate a little gap unless it's just a little more $ added in place of another purchase option.
  24. Thanks brother. If at first you don't succeed...
  25. Lucky for me she was only critical of the color not the cost. And hey, it all could lead to a nice refinishing down the road... ;)
