  1. Shepp is just used to dealing with tough Wisconsinites. we are a hardy bunch from the rough winters
  2. idk, sometimes the truth hits you and hurts just as bad as a hangover. lol.
  3. yeah I like to get a lot more rounds down range. and having heavy guns is the only way I get a workout since I am so lazy. lol.
  4. the truth can be such a buzz killer
  5. something happened and I was able to quote. yay! lol. anywho... the problem with 30-06 is to many people use to big of bullets and destroy more meat than needed. .308 I can't say i ever had any problems either shooting to big or to small a whole, always left em dead within a decent distance of the shot.
  6. hmmm. can we stack veteran and law enforcement discounts? lol.
  7. wash, you are supposed to shoot the paper, not poke holes in it with a pencil. yeah I know even an anorexic barrel can be accurate, I just think there are things that make bull barrels better choices for most applications. how many rounds did it take for the barrel to get hot and the group to open up like that?
  8. lol. that's what youtube is for! idk why companies don't put directions on things these days. probably so we have to get a "professional" to do it.

how much? I want one! lol. a nice historical piece that is still very functional, what's not to love?
  10. RRS, as for the .308 vs 6.5 vs 6mm video, it's a great video. I have thought much about a 6mm as I have taken many deer with .243 win and love the gun and its accuracy. but I choose 6.5mm because it had more energy which I use for taking long shots at deer. the last 2 years I have only been hunting with my .243 because I broke my collarbone in a bad motorcycle accident, and last year I shot the biggest buck I have ever shot with it... but even though it was a lung shot and the deer dropped instantly and was on his back, he got up and walked away. I let him bed down for about an hour and then tracked him for over 3 and a half hours and lost the blood trail across the field as the midday sun melted the half inch of snow we got the night before opening morning. it wasn't a horribly long shot that someone would consider unethical and I have taken many deer at that range (including 30 minutes before because the big boy walked up on the deer and stood looking at his body where I dropped it before I shot and hit him also.) So I decided that even though .243 is one of the best rounds out there for long range shooting and hunting small to medium game, I really wanted something with a little more energy behind it that I could also take a black bear with. If I was just shooting paper or steel, 6mm would be my bullet of choice. Although might build a bolt gun in 26 nosler, would be a great hunting round but it is a 6mm bullet in a 30-06 case basically. rcnut, glad to see another local, haven't been that way in ages, I live west of Castle Rock lake grrrrr. still cant quote you guys, sorry. the price of living in the middle of nowhere with crap internet.
  11. RRS, great sniper's hide article. I hadn't read that one yet. I completely agree with everything said there. I have seen that it is easier and cheaper to find better factory ammo with 6.5 cm than it is with .260 rem. but for the person who reloads frequently or is good at it (not saying I am yet. lol.), .260 is better for reloading not just because of the better brass available, but because of the amount of brass available in the .308 family that can be necked up or down to .260 rem. besides that, I would say on the range they are so close I would consider it equal. the thing I would semi-disagree with is the fact that .260 can be longer create problems for mags. while this can be true because the case length of the .260 is slightly longer, most people I know set the actual bullet back farther in the case than the 6.5 cm and actually making the .260 slightly shorter (not really noticeable by the naked eye though). so I don't see this to be a problem unless you are one of the people loading .260 rem a little longer. I really like how that article talked about 18 inch barrels. most frequently you hear people saying you need 22-26 in barrels for these 6.5mm calibers and they turn people off of the shorter 16-20 inch barrels. well I think we all here know the benefits of barrel length, more velocity being the main one. but as can be seen in the video at the bottom of the article, a 6.5mm cartridge can be accurate with a 18in barrel even out to 1250 yards! I have even read an article about a guy building a bolt gun in 6.5 cm with a 16 in barrel that still performed amazing. http://www.sincityprecision.com/short-barrel-6-5mm-rifle/ http://www.65creedmoor.com/index.php?topic=1071.0 so bring on the short barrel 6.5s!
  12. rcnut, glad to hear you're a Wisconsinite. seams there are a lot of us on this forum. I'm sure we would all have a blast if we all got together.

  14. lol. wasn't supposed to be a caliber war. was just trying to get conversation going about it because I was curious as well. basically I just was wondering for those that shoot or want to shoot 6.5 cm, why that over 260 rem. was wondering if I would learn some advantage that the 6.5 cm has. and yes, I shoot a lot of .308, .243, and 7mm-08. so just made sense for me to stick with a case that I could use in several of my weapons... actually right now I don't have a single medium sized game rifle that isn't in the .308 parent family. never thought about that before. haha.
  15. yeah that's what I mean jtallen, what makes the 6.5 cm the fad over 260 rem though? is it because hornady seems to be looked upon as a better brand of ammo to most people these days? I've heard a few guys talk about building a 6.5 cm but am I the only one building a 260 rem? lol. maybe I missed the band wagon and ended up hitching a ride on a unicycle instead. haha.
  16. I don't even care about sales, I just want to know when the good stuff is in stock. lol
  17. man that sucks... RIP beer
  18. hmmm. so many people go for the 6.5 creedmoor over the 260 rem... why is that? is it because of hornady promoting it? seems more people offer barrels and guns in 6.5 cm also. I myself initially liked 6.5 cm but later came to like 260 rem because of the case dimensions. 260 rem is based on the .308 win case (so that plus .243 and 7mm-08 brass can be used). the 6.5 cm is based on the .30 TC, and brass a little bit harder to come by without buying straight 6.5 cm brass or putting a little more work into it. yet performance is basically identical between the two calibers. So why do so many more people like the 6.5 creedmoor? I am a big fan of the 7mm-08 also. :) and cant go wrong with .308 we all know.

I'm a savage fan, good rifles for the price. if I wanted something better and had the money to spend, I would just custom build a bolt gun. so savage has my vote. but for the price, I would say THAT Remington is worth it.
  20. horrible internet connection where I am at, watching videos is almost impossible. I will try and remember to do it while I am at work. lol. still cant even quote on the forum my internet is so bad. sucks

yeah, I haven't heard anything bad about the model. I have just owned a lot of remingtons and the recent ones I have gotten or friends/family have gotten I haven't been impressed with. so until things change, they aren't seeing a cent from me. just personal preference. hope it works out for you though, would be a great deal.
  22. wow. moral of the story, either have a big enough pistol or rifle that you can easily reach and are trained to handle quickly, or be as tough as these crazy dude.

nice looking gun... like the heavy barrel, hope it is decent though, I'm afraid of Remington these days.

yeah, good scope is always important. I read somewhere that the US is the only country in the world where most shooters don't spend as much on glass as they do their rifle... or something like that. sounds about right though, most people don't have or at least don't put the money into an expensive piece of glass. admittedly I don't.
