I've never tried it. I would think it would take away from the softness/form fitting flexibility of the foam against your contents. I would assume it would be wise also to be cautious of other chemicals in the spray you intend to use. Some chemicals may not play nice with the foam compound causing possible damage or chewing it away. Just a thought. Also, I would think any moisture on your weapon & gear would stay on it because the plastic dip/spray would form a barrier, keep it from wicking away into the foam.

I read where some stocks will fold either direction, aftermarket ones i think. Even pics I was searching weren't showing much detail. That square on yours appears to be flat/smooth on 3 of the 4 sides. The top side though looks to have a slot or crease cut in for latching on to.

Does your stock fold? I thought I saw some pics of folding stock models. Might be a retaining tab to secure stock in the closed position.

Their shell deflector may slide/snap down over the square . That is a badass looking gun!!

If it's not securing the mechanics within the polymer frame, it may have only served a purpose during the manufacturing process? A pic of the whole side of the gun would help show orientation to the ejection port .
