Sounds like you'll be in the ballpark. I have just barely over a MIL left of down travel when zeroed at 100. 29+ of up travel.

My curiosity got the best of me, so I double checked my base and I'm actually running the EGW 30 MOA. I'm pretty sure I have 40 MOA built into the Burris rings. I've been running the 220 gr Hornady ELD-X. BC is .654 on that one. Everything has been real happy out to a mile along with consistently printing .75" groups and under @ 100. I'm now going up to the 225 gr ELD-M with a .777 BC. That 220 was becoming very unstable @ 2K yds. Any BC and weight less than what I've been running is going to make the job much more difficult to reach out past a mile. If that's what you want to be able to do, don't handicap yourself like I was. At this point, if you're going to develop a new load, might want to give yourself the best opportunity for success. Just my 2 pennies worth.

I'm running a 20 MOA base and 40 MOA built into the rings while still maintaining a 100 yd zero. Dialing at a mile is no problem. At 2K I was dialing 29 MILS and holding 4 over. The Arken has almost 31 MILS dialing capability. With 100 yd zero and all the stuff, I can dial about 29.3 MILS. Anything more built in and I won't be able to keep my 100 yd zero.

I like the way you're thinkin! Count me in!

If you're gonna sponsor me for all the extra equipment needed to go past where we are now, I'm in. If not, we'll just have fun at 2K for a while. Lol
-
I still don't believe it exists. Never seen it. Only heard of it.
-
True, very true. It's all relative. A fully set up Cheytac ready to go with a few hundred rounds would buy the engine in your car. Maybe. Lol.

I have an F-Class barrel with a .284 bore. I'd really like to turn it into a big 7mm long range something. Now I all I need is everything else! I shot a 338 Edge in Utah a few years ago. The 30" circle at a mile was boring. That's a bad mofo.

I do. But unlike you, I'm stubborn. And its a challenge to do more, with less. Now I need a lil help. I've found the limits of that bullet. It's very accurate and it'll go 2K, sorta. At the time I didn't think there would be that big of a difference, cuz I didn't know what I didn't know. Plus, I was already invested in boxes of bullets and time/energy into that load. It works awesome. Sub 3/4" groups at 100 with a 300 Win Mag is cool. I certainly hope those 225's will fly straight, otherwise this is gonna get spendy.

A couple of things to take into consideration for me, is that to bump up by a very small amount on the BC with the 230's or 240's from the 225's, the bullets are 2x the money. $48/box of 100 Hornady's 225's, or $42 for a box of 50 Sierras or $97 for Bergers. So there's that. I'll just dip my toe in for now and see how these run. Plus, only going up 5 gr on bullet weight I don't have to change my powder load or seating depth but just a little bit. Going with a much heavier bullet would require more extensive development, and possibly a powder change. I don't wanna. Lol. At least not right now.

2K is so easy, even a girl can do it. This was Karen's first time ever behind the 300. She's only shot a bolt gun once before, a few months ago, and not any between then and now. So that's pretty cool. Even though the exact details of @98Z5V account are based in reality, they're slightly skewed, but we'll call it close enough. The gist of the story is that we all connected at 2K repeatedly with a relatively low round count. I was pleasantly surprised. What makes the story even more interesting, is that half the impacts were coming in sideways/backwards. That means there was a fair amount of luck involved in some of those hits being that the bullet was literally FALLING out of the sky. I can't say who had which hits, that's impossible to know. The other thing that I found extremely interesting, is that the DOPE was calling for 2+ MILS of spin drift, to the right. We had a right to left wind anywhere from 3-6mph or so. At that distance, the wind cancelled the spin drift. So the bullet was fighting the wind the whole way and basically running straight. Leaning into the wind, if you will. I didn't dial or hold for wind. All we were doing was holding one edge of the plate or the other, a little high or a little low, depending. There's a lot of really interesting things happening out there once the bullet leaves the barrel. There's also a lot that happens in the 240 yards between a mile and 2K, including a whole extra second of flight time. 3.5 seconds to a mile and 4.5 at 2K. I'm really happy that we were able to find a great shooting position and had the equipment/skills to get the job done. In preparation for next time, I'm going to load up the 225 ELDM's that @98Z5V runs in his Win Mag. I've been running the 220 ELDX up until this point and been giving up a substantial amount of BC with that choice of bullet. The 225 is as big as I can comfortably go with my 1:10 twist. 230 and up requires 1:9 and 1:8, while only gaining a slight advantage in BC. The 225 is .777 and the 230's+ are only around .800. Running suppressed I'm not willing to gamble on not stabilizing a heavier projo and risk a baffle strike. That can be a spendy and inconvenient error. We'll get this whole situation all figured out by the time y'all get here. Looking forward to a ton of fun at 2K!

The 3 big dents are from the 50 cal at 1 Mile from Fall Shoot. 2 hits at 2,000, 1 fairly centered and 1 in the lower right. Initially I thought the lower right impact was a "skipped" round. However, after hitting it 4 more times the next day, a few of those hits definitely came in sideways. Time to up the BC and find a new bullet that will make that trip a little more stable in flight.

We were actually sweating a little bit standing up there in just t-shirts. AZ is awesome in the winter!

For me to skip out on the SDTF, you know it had to be serious.
-
Yes, and they're closed now. I'm working on figuring out a new way to distribute, so for now, just let me know what you need and I'll be happy to send some.
-
Successful day out at the SDTF on Sunday. Lookin forward to seeing everyone!
-
I need this so I have a place to sit and take a nap while you shoot.

@98Z5V I'm going to throw something in here about this for discussion. You're saying "fragmentation" of the 55 gr FMJ in XM193 ball ammo, correct? If that's correct, I'd like to challenge that just a touch. Some years ago, Dad's best friend in Montana decided that he was going to hang up his trusty 270 Win that's he's literally taken hundreds of animals with, and set a goal of taking 20 "big game" animals with his AR. He uses Fed XM193 and to date he has taken more than 20 "big game" animals with it. I say "big game" because a couple of them were Turkeys, but he figures if you have to draw a tag for it, he's gonna call it "big game". Lol. However, I know he's taken at least 3 Bull Elk, multiple Mule Deer and Whitetails, Antelope and a couple years ago I was on a Sheep hunt with him where he got an Ewe. The majority of those harvests were one shot kills, including the Elk. Max range on the Elk was about 150 and he said it was dead before it hit the ground. His analysis of why that little tiny bullet works so well, other than proper placement, is its speed. It's hauling ass. But it doesn't fragment. It tumbles on impact and that's what causes such trauma in these animals. It makes a nice little hole on entry, and if it makes it all the way through, a nice clean hole on exit. The insides, however, are destroyed.

Powder burn rate and how it affects EVERYTHING really became apparent with that little short barrel. Learned a lot that isn't as apparent with 16"-24" barrels. Couldn't get the results I wanted with the "right" powders. Started with the standard heavy for caliber powders with an emphasis on temp stable. Varget: slow, inaccurate and terrible SD's. Great in so many other applications. Worked my way up the chart to Accurate 2520, IMR-4064, H4895 and then IMR 8208-XBR. Was hoping for good results with that, being that it shoots .5 MOA @ 2700 fps with single digit SD's in my 18" comp gun and is on the faster end of heavy for caliber powders. Nope. On to H335 and Benchmark. Still nothing good, but good as I had gotten to that point. Loaded 120 and shot a match. It wasn't even close to what I need for that competition. Needs to be sub MOA, and everything up to this point was closer to 2 MOA than not. In a last ditch effort, and going into questionable territory, went to IMR-3031 and RE 10x. 3031 still wasn't working but then 1 step faster to the 10x and there it was. Solid speed @ 2,500 fps, low teens SD's and sub MOA. Loaded that up and shot the match and I'm pretty sure that was the best showing I've had with that gun, even though the score didn't really reflect it, the load shot well. It was interesting to watch all those other powder get to about 2,550 fps and then it just didn't matter how much more powder you put to it, the speeds just flat lined.
