+3 this morning, -3 tomorrow morning. Highs in teens-low 20's. BUT warming up to maybe 40 on Thursday. Clear, at least. My wife's sister and husband have a "winter house" in Gulf Shores, AL. Always bragging about that and the weather there. THIS week they'll see mid-20's and some ice/snow mix. Inside I'm laughing. I'm a bad person.

If it's ever going to happen, it will be within the next couple of years. I really hope that they can poop-can the National Firearms Act, too. I dream big. :)

I had checked the local "sources" for used gun safes - Craigslist, etc. and of the very few I found, they wanted as much as a new one. Maybe I should check estate sales - those companies often post online inventories.

This thread isn't REAL old, so I thought I'd come here instead of continuing on another thread where I got some suggestions from Shepp about safes: I got this one from Menards on Black Friday, buddy of mine has had the same one for many years and is happy with it. Previously I was watching tractor supply and Dunhams sports, they both run great sales. IIRC @Robocop1051said tractor supply has mil/leo discount Today I looked online for the RIGID 48" box and good golly: they are over $500 now. There are a couple of DeWalt versions that hit the $700 mark. Damn near as much as an entry level safe. I'm looking more seriously at Cannon, because our local Academy Sports carries them, and I have a better chance of getting it delivered for less than having one shipped by common carrier. I saw that an American Rebel store just moved in about 2 miles from the house, which seemed cool until I saw that their safes START at $3K and head skyward. A local gun store carries a line of safes, but I cannot recall the brand. A good excuse to go there next week....assuming the snow stops....and the roads get plowed.

...and so it begins. It's been overcast and cold all day, with the winter storm warnings hanging over our heads, but at around 4pm it started....RAINING. How do we get rain when it's 25 damn degrees? The metro area salt trucks can't keep up. I went to pick up a pizza and our neighborhood streets were OK, but one of the main roads was a sheet of glass. I learned that the X-Mode in my Subaru Crosstrek really does have some serious value. Not perfect on ice, but I wasn't doing 360's like a couple of jeeps I saw. Damn. The rain is supposed to stop soon, and then tonight into tomorrow: 5-7" of snow. That's the National Weather Service, who I tend to trust the most. The stupid AccuWeather on my iPhone says 15-17" of snow. Either way is sucks. Glad I don't HAVE to be any place. Then on Monday going into the middle of next week - single digits to negative 2 possible. The schools are supposed to resume from Christmas break Monday. We'll see.

Clear and 24 right now, but the weather people are screaming about a winter storm that will basically end life here in the Midwest. [if you watch The Weather Channel] Freezing rain / ice first, then up to 12" of snow. Around here that usually means 2-4 days without power if we get an ice storm. I have a large generator and a transfer panel for the house, but the thing weighs 250lb and even with wheels, it's a chore for the old body to move around. Fingers crossed that we dodge a bullet this time.

A small start on a big New Year project: reorganizing the basement "armory" into something a little more efficient. I took the AR-10 out of the bag to check the desiccant packs and took a quick pic of it and the new little Rossi 22LR. I need to get out with both in the coming weeks. [AR-10: S&W M&P Sport-16" barrel, Mag-Pul stock, hand guards and kick-stand, Bushnell Nitro 4-16x44 scope, Bushnell red dot on side 45 mount. Lahar-30 can with a cover from Rauch ] Ignore the mess. Work in progress....at least I hope to make progress Happy New Year!!!

Christmas Day - overcast, 44 degree high temp - no forecasted rain. The KC area is fortunate compared to the rain parts of TX is getting and the storms happening in the PNW. A bland day and I'll take it. Merry Christmas to all!! [except the evil ones in DC]

Good deal on that S&W wheel gun. Only thing on order is a better GMRS radio antenna for the vehicle, but this saga leads to another post office debacle. A little stubby antenna is still circulating within the vast black hole that is the USPS; each day bringing a new delivery date. A horse and rider could get it here quicker. Anymore if any vendor offers shipping OTHER than the postal disservice, I will ante up. May all your Christmas packages arrive on time. Happy Holidays.
