Do you raw pack your beef when you pressure can? I'll have to try it over noodles, sounds great.

I learned from my mom as well. I am on the lookout for a sale on some chuck roasts so I can can that too. Friends of my folks use to butcher a steer and can a bunch of it. It is fantastic on mashed potatoes! Canned 10 pints of pasta sauce the other day, last of the Roma tomatoes.

The trigger is a "Drop in" POF at about 4.5 lbs. will tear apart latter today, and check the spring make sure it is right side up, have a bunch of odball springs will see if I have one that is heavier. Will let you know what I find. thanks, John

Albroswift: I think you are correct, it may have the disc. bouncing. Could a heavier disc. spring be installed to reduce this? Your thoughts.

Got my Car-10 buffer and new spring installed, and went to the range. ran about 50 rounds, thing ran like a champ. Dumped all the brass in a 3' diameter pile about 10' from the bench at about 3:00. This rifle has rally liked Federal Fusion 150's, have taken two white tail with that load. Got it zeroed with this load about 1-1/2" high at 100yds. Had two rounds left, stuffed them in the mag pulled the trigger rifle fired both rounds! Got the rifle home removed the POF trigger expecting to find the disconector damaged or broken. looked fine functioned fine on the bench. Probably only fired 50 rounds before today with this trigger, no signs of wear, crud or dirt. Any Ideas?

I am a little late to the party, but have a question. I understand the desirability of using a small base resizing die for an autoloader. I also noticed a lot of you use Lee dies. Are these "small base"? I find no reference for small base dies on Lees web site.

I have a gen 2 recon that came equipped with a 7" carbine extension and a 3.8oz buffer. The gun runs fine but the recoil seems a bit sharp. From what I have read in this forum the ideal buffer set up is an Armalite tube , spring and a 5.4 oz. buffer. Armalite is out of stock for these items. Looks like another option too get a heavy enough buffer and the correct spring for a 7" extension is a 5.5 oz. Car-10 buffer and "modified" armalite spring from Clint at Heavy Bufffers. Will this combo work as well as the Armalite set-up?

Cliff: instead of plastic i cover the soil with 4-6 layers of newspapers to keep the soil from splashing on the plants, mulch everything heavily with prairie hay, this holds the blight down. I also install soaker hoses under the mulch and try and avoid sprinklers if possible. Blossom end rot is a calcium deficiency, so I mix about a 1/4 cup of powdered milk in the planting hole seems to work. shrade

RRII: I agree with your taste for blue steel and walnut. My collection of Smith's and Kimber 22 rimfires reflect this. With the arthritis in my left hand getting worse I am not able to easily rack the slide on a 1911, so have changed my EDC to a Shield 9EZ. I guess their is a place for "plastics and inserts". Nothing to look at but totally functional and reliable.

RRII I can't narrow it down to just one, Their are two that are special to me. My father bought a Colt Mark IV series 70 in 45 ACP. in the mid '70's, It is now my favorite, and gets shot occasionally in his honor. The other is a 1934 Smith & Wesson 22 Outsoorsman, that , IMO is the finest revolver S&W built. I shoot it a lot. The list of almost favorites is considerably longer.

Ran out of Jars yesterday, went to Super Saver got 3 doz WM pints they had no lids the clerk said they have not been able to get them for several months, will have to stock up this fall and winter.

Had a few 308 bolt guns by Ruger and Remington over the years. Really liked the cartridge. Bought a Springfield M1-A, not for me, came over to the "dark Side". Smith & Wesson, then a POF, currently have a DPMS Gen 2 Recon. Love everything about it except, seems recoil is bit excessive.

My garden has been going nuts this summer so I have been canning too. In July I canned about 14 quarts of dill spears and and 8 quarts of refrigerator dill chips. Had a bumper crop of spuds so I canned 12 quarts, first time for that. Have 24 pints of salsa up, with more tomatoes on the way. Tired of eating fresh green beans, so canned 7 pints of those today. Also canned up 7 or 8 pints of Dilly beans. Those are great with beer. Cider vinegar with dill, garlic and red cayenne pepper. Shepp you said you hated to peel tomatoes, you blanch them first? That is better than peeling them raw. Canning seems like a lot of work, but sure tastes good. Sorry I don't have any pics of the finished product.

Been lurking around this site for a few days, thought I had better sign up. retired 2 years ago after 44 years in the construction industry, managed to pick up a few nice firearms along the way. A relative new comer to the AR platform. Went thru several AR's in 308, before I found one I like. M&P 10 had some issues with being under gassed after a couple hundred rounds still wasn't as dependable as I thought it should be. Then a POF, it was a 10+ lb. beast, dependable but just to damn heavy. Currently have a DPMS G 2 Recon with a 16' barrel. Runs pretty good, reasonably accurate, weighs less than the POF. Has been reliable. Taken two white tale with it using 150 grn. Federal Fusion factory ammo. Have been interested in the articles about using heavier buffers/springs to lessen recoil. Just want to learn from knowledgeable folks.
