    Single shot rifles

That looks awesome! I’ve got a single shot Remington target master bolt action 22lr I left at my folks house cause my dad uses it to shoot nutria in their backyard at night, their backyard has one of the larger bayous in town running through it so those big ass rats come out and eat it he grass down to the dirt at night. I think I’m gonna have to go reclaim I in the next year or so cause my little girl is wanting to learn how to shoot.

That would be a fun one for sure! I remember wanting a Contender as a teenager when I read a Guns & Ammo that had one chambered in 300 Whisper.
  3. I love it seeing all the actual user knives and not pristine Hinderers and CRK’s, nothing against those brands at all. I’ve lost too many Benchmades in my 20’s to start spending “gun money” on folders. I’ll still snag a Benchmade on the used market, but I don’t change things around much once I find something that works well for me. I just as rotating between a stock G22, an G22 with the grip cut to G27 dimensions and a G20. I’m now in the mindset that the G20 isn’t that much bulkier than the stock G22 so it now sits as a house gun with an 40-9mm conversion barrel and 26rd mag and I just saw rotate between the chopped G22 and the G20 depending on what I’m doing.
  4. I need to put together an ankle fak, I keep one and a tq in my field pack and we have large ones in our airboats/outboards/trucks at work. I’m in and out of hip and chest waders a good bit so ruled it out for work, but off time with the family it may be perfect now that my 3 year old thinks he’s stuntman. I carry too much in my pockets and on belt to add more to either. I like that Iz2 sheath, it reminds me of the one my old Tops MSK had.
  5. Today’s folder I use my Junglas a lot at work, so it’s in a backpack with me daily over the years I’ve bolted and zipped tied different things I’ve found essential for doing wetland work in coastal Louisiana. I recently decided to add the leatherman pouch and a Kick I had sitting around so I’d have some tool options and a smaller blade on the kit. With the job I have I’m often wearing chest waders in 100% humidity temps around 100°F and when trimming trails and shooting lanes in August/September for deer season having a kit setup with everything I need on a belt works well with gym shorts. I used two Tek Loks to attach an old wader belt to the sheath so I can carry it either scout or baldrig depending on water depths or if I’m carrying a backpack or climber.
  6. That’s gorgeous!
  7. Been having these two for a while tht are part of my Junglas kit. I have a second one of the ferro rods on my Esee 5’s sheath that stays in my truck.
  8. I had one of the Emerson/Kershaw collaborations and it was a fun folder, ended up giving it to a friend and getting a Spyderco waved Endura to take its place. I really like the wave feature.
  9. Is that top folder an Emerson cqc of some type?
  10. I searched around and didn’t see any everyday carry gear threads so I figured I’d start one in this section. Only other forums I’m active on are Esee and an edc community forum I moderate for. Here’s my typical daily load out on person. about the only things that ever rotate are the folder and the pistol

  15. Man I wish I’d have bought a MAK90 back then for what they were selling for then. I don’t care enough for AK pattern carbines enough to pay what they go for now vs building another AR. I really do do like the SKS for an irons only woods carbine when I’m not hunting and just shooting targets of opportunity like armadillo and nutria.
  16. It’s fairly similar here, last time I saw a SKS in a shop they were asking 450US for it. I think my Pop’s paid 90US for the one above and the one I had when I was 14 I paid 95US for in 1994. Makes me kick myself I traded off my original SKS.

    My first gun

First off, thank you for your service sir! I used to be a shotgunaholic growing up. I had this Topper, a 16ga 870 wingmaster, a 20ga LT20 1100, a Browning Auto5 stalker and a Browning Citori 425 12ga. Somewhere around 2011 I sold/traded all but the Topper and Browning Auto-5 to support my black rifle disease. I don’t do much duck or other bird hunting anymore so I don’t missed what I’ve sold, but I have started to want a Stoeger M3500 competition rig for blasting hogs.
  18. My first pistol, got it at 17 and lost count of the bricks that went through it. It sealed my fate in liking striker fired pistols.

    My first gun

One of my grandpaw’s bought this for me right after I was born. Was the gun I started hunting with H&R Topper 12ga youth model 3” magnum.

    Single shot rifles

Anyone else into single shot rifles? My home state of Louisiana and neighboring Mississippi changed their muzzleloader regs to include hammer fired single shots chambered in cartridges .44” and larger so I got this H&R handirifle in 45/70, a year later they amended it to .35” and larger and the popularity of 35 Whelen exploded here. I’m using a Vortex Strikefire on it cause I’m not a huge fan of the “chin weld” I get with a traditional scope mounted to clear the hammer. I think I’ll eventually try a scout scope on it to mount low fwd of the hammer.
  21. Fun plinker for sure! I’ve carried it some hiking in the woods thinking I might pop a hog with it, never got the opportunity. Man I wish 7.62x39 was still as cheap as it was in the 90’s, this likely wouldn’t be my only rifle in it.
  22. My grandfather picked it up around 1993 before the Clinton ban went into effect. I think he cleaned the cosmoline out of it then zero’d and maybe shot a 100 rounds then boxed in a closet for 20 years. I taught my oldest kid how to shoot irons on a centerfire with it. Once I got into AR rifles it’s pretty much sat in the safe.

    Welcome from deep south Louisiana!
  24. Man I wish it was a thermal! It’s a digital day/night optic, basically a ruggedized IR sensitive camera that picks up ambient moon/start light and works best with an IR illuminator. I’ve used it in different 5.56 rifles to take hogs out to 120yds at night. The picture quality at night is on par with Gen 2 nv and I’m comfortable telling a hog from a black bear out to 200yds with the IR illuminator. Not sure why it took me so long to try it out on my 300blk.
  25. We’re definitely kindred spirits in regard to being harsh on wooden stocks. I’ve got very long guns left with wooden stocks, my 22lr browning a-bolt squirrel rifle being the only one I still regularly use and it surely looks it. Part of what drew me into AR type rifles for hunting is the synthetic stocks and limited parts that are prone to corrosion are perfect for the humid wetlands of Louisiana gulf coast and the creek/river bottom lands I hunt further north in my state.
