Creole chicken stew tonight I follow my wife’s Mawmaw’s recipe: 2 onion chopped 3 stalks of celery chopped one red bell pepper chopped 1/2cup flour 1/2cup olive oil 4 boneless chicken breasts Tony Chachere’s creole seasoning to taste 5 bay leaves Fresh ground black pepper to taste 1-tsp sea salt more to taste if needed 1-tbs minced garlic heaping palmful of parsley flakes chicken broth I mix the flour and oil in the pot thoroughly with a wisk before turning on the heat to prevent my roux from lumping up. Turn the heat on to medium and keep stirring until the roux is roughly the color of peanut butter then add in the chopped vegetables and turn the heat down to high-simmer and let that go until the vegetables soften up stirring occasionally. Once the vegetables are soft add the chicken and get it mostly cook throughout, at this point I add the seasonings. Once the chicken is cooked throughout I add the chicken broth to cover everything and let it simmer until all the vegetables and chicken are tender and the seasonings have gotten mixed into everything. As with most ever sauce type dish in south Louisiana serve it on the rice of your choice.

Not the OP, but thanks for the explanation. I’ve always wondered about that.

Locating proper scope mount has been a pain
JMJ replied to BeeKay's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Good to know, I’ve got the bolt on version and just use a Wheeler fat wrench to get return to zero when I’ve swapped it out for my x-sight. -
Whenever I get around to getting a can it’s likely live on my 300blk pistol unless I’d get a Ruger RAR in 300blk so I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve got two lowers set aside for my two youngest kids to build out with them and have to acquire uppers for them anyway so picking up a lefty to swap out could work well.

This is similar to my experience, I’m ambidextrous and left eye dominant. I write right handed and do everything else pretty equally with both, figured out I was left eye dominant around 12 years old when I started competitive shooting with firearms and 3D archery. I shoot everything left handed, but do still practice shooting pistols and carbines right hand to some degree to stay familiar. Currently I only have one left hand rifle, a Browning a-bolt stainless stalker that I really love, but find I can run my righ hand bolt guns faster shooting them lefty. I’ve never shot a left hand AR rifle before, I’ve been curious about them but adapted early to the regular right hand configuration more out of concern for spare parts and such. I currently don’t have a suppressor, but if or more likely when I do get one this info will likely get me to pick up a left hand upper receiver or two.

Locating proper scope mount has been a pain

I’m curious if you’re thinking the offset/cantilever side of the one piece mount is supposed to go to the rear? I’ve been seeing a lot of pics by sellers online and in catalogs that have had them in this configuration and it’s the wrong orientation for an offset/cantilever one piece mount. The rear ring should be the one that’s vertically flat and the cantilever end goes towards/over the forend. This will give you space for your rear buis and allow proper eye relief. Something like the Burris PEPR is imho reasonably priced in either the bolt on or QD versions and in my experience has been solid on my predator rifle. I hope this helps if you were confused with how they’re supposed to be mounted. -
That forend is awesome, clean and simple lines!

Lol completely agree! There was a similar article a few years ago about some “extremist” getting busted with weapons and they were going on about him having 10k rounds of ammunition like that was insane. My mind jumped to thinking nice start, I get nervous when I drop below that in just 22lr. It made me take inventory of my ammunition and I realized I better not end up on the news cause they’ll say I’m trying to go invade some other nation or some bs like that. Dafaq these people think the definition of “well regulated” means.

Agreed fully, and they have the same warranty as Vortex you just don’t hear about it cause they rarely have have issues needing warranty replacement. I’ve known guys that have bought broken Leupold scopes on the used market and sent them in and gotten them repaired or replaced for free. I’ve got a fixed 4x rimfire Leupold on my 22lr A-bolt, an older vari-x iic 3-9x50mm on my bushmaster Predator 5.56 and a Vx2 2-7x33mm on my Aero M5 308 that have been amazing for what they cost. I’ve also got a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 on a 7mmRM A-bolt and a vortex Strikefire rds and their 3x magnifier I rotate around that have performed pretty well. The biggest difference and reason I’m bigger fan of Leupold is their lens coatings vs vortex’s make a huge difference for me again sun washout at sunrise and sunset. It’s also nice knowing my money is going to paying the wages of another American. I’m thinking my next gun related purchase will be a newer Leupold to replace the diamondback on my deer rifle.

Thanks for that information, I’ll keep an eye on that. It’s been a pretty low round count shooter so far, I may have 40-60 rounds through it. It’s been more or less enough to zero when I’ve tried different optics then hunted with. I love the 45/70 cartridge and hope to get a lever action in it at some point. The H&R was mainly picked up to meet the newer regulations that changed our muzzleloader season to a “primitive” cartridge rifle season and to meet requirements for certain WMA’s and federal refuges in Louisiana and Mississippi. Those buffalo classics were good looking rifles, that’s what I wanted originally but had a hard time finding one so I went with the handigrip thumb hole model.

Why No Springfield Saint Victor Large Frame Subforum?

Glad to see other southpaws here! -
The Junglas is the most ridiculously fun to use knife I’ve yet to own I used the Laserstrike for these 3 sweet gum trees. That knife looks drastically different now.

And that stuff that looks like normal grass around the stump and trees is a mat about 6-10” thick that’s floating on around 4’ of water in that swamp. Walking on it feels like an old style water bed, so it’s ridiculously humid. I’ve never had any issues with its rusting much, just wipe it down with white vinegar every so often the oil it with olive oil or something with a bees wax base. All I tend to use outdoors are Esee’s with 1095. I’ll dig and see if I still have the pic of an 8-10” diameter white oak I chopped down with it.

I completely agree, I may look at some sort of stock riser for it. That or get the rail swapped out so it can take a scout/IER type scope. The straight stock situation is one of the biggest things that got me hooked on hunting with AR type rifles, I’ve got a big ole Cro-Magnon head so a straight stock with high rings points really well for me. I resisted getting the single shot to use during our “primitive” deer season regulation changes cause I such a fan of my .50 Hawken, but after getting the 45/70 it became my favorite favorite public land hunting rifle even into modern gun season cause it was so light weight and short. I used to mountain bike several miles into a national forests with my climber on my back and it was a perfect fit to that type of hunting. Only reason I stopped using it as much is because we got hit with the “hog bomb” in the areas I hunt.

Those are some good looking rifles!

I think you’re going to love that stock. My brother in-law has on on his 6.8spcii and it’s one of the most comfortable stocks I’ve shot with.
-
Thanks man. I’ve currently got a Vortex diamondback 4-12x40mm on a browning a-bolt 7mmRM that’s been my primary deer rifle and it’s a decent scope but suffers some washout from the sun at dawn and dusk that I’ve never noticed with my Leupold scopes. Figuring that Leupold uses some better coatings on their glass.

Thanks! I still haven’t seen their large frame rifles in person, should be an awesome rig if it’s anything like their small frame guns. Y’all got me curious to weigh my Aero M5 now, I’m guessing it’s 10# with the scope/mount on it.

What pattern is the SA Saint large frame? Great looking rifle @Lentuk! @MtnMike how do you like tha VX-Freedom? I’ve got an older Vari-x iic 3-9x50mm and a VX2 2-7x33 I picked up just after Leupold discontinued that line. I really like both of them and haven’t had the chance to check out a VX-Freedom yet, but expect it to be on par since it’s the replacement for the Vx2’s. Gorgeous rifle btw.

Thanks for posting this! That’s a whole lot easier than “slugging” a barrel to determine the twist rate.

Lol we definitely tend to, I’m a little more adventurous than most. Been fascinated with trying some things shown on Meateater’s Pardon My Plate series of vids. That’s so cool! I haven’t messed with any wildcat cartridges yet, but once I’m up and running to handload I’m considering something in the .458x2” American made from my used 7mmRM brass and sharing projos with my 45/70govt.

They were originally brought here to farm for fur and they escaped from the Tabasco folks during a hurricane and became a huge nuisance. Trapping has fallen off in a big way here except for collecting tail bounties. The meat is good similar to rabbit, I think there’s just a stigma against eating a giant rat. I’ve had it fixed as sausage and it was pretty great. They’re not as numerous as when I was a kid, our state imposed a bounty of $5/tail and that along with the coyote’s range expansion and our alligator population recovering we’re seeing less and less nutria in wild areas and they’re holding out along waterways in towns. What’s been really interesting is that in all the areas nutria populations are decreasing we’re seeing our native muskrat populations returning where they were out competed and driven off.
