  1. Now that my .308 is running I’m on a quest for some basic spare parts. Springs and detents are no problem, neither are FCG parts, but BCG parts are proving to be a headache. I ordered. POF roller cam pin which doesn’t fit my Aero BCG, I contacted Aero because they didn’t show cam pins on the website but they don’t sell them individually. Short of buying a complete BCG, where can I get spare cam pins, firing pins, extractors, etc? With all of the non standard parts used on the AR .308 platform I’m not sure where to turn. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated...
  2. The gas tube and optic showed up yesterday so I was able to finish up the assembly. The picture I previously posted didn't accurately capture the color, it's amazing how much better it is with decent lighting...
  3. SLR Rifleworks, they will Cerakote for an additional charge. Not cheap but high quality...
  4. Nice rig, it looks as good as it shoots...
  5. I don't disagree, the response from WC customer service that I posted in my short stroking thread backs up what you're saying. So does having the gun function correctly after addressing the undersized gas port and too light buffer. That said, I still like WC's products. In their defense, the website lists the correct gas tube length and gas block diameter in the specs for each barrel. The 13.25" Intermediate length is the one to watch out for as it's proprietary to WC. I have one on my M5 and the one for my latest 5.56 build is finally on the way after a months long backorder. The barrel configuration I like is only available with the intermediate length gas system. All I could do is wait...
  6. This morning I dug the .308 out of the safe to stake the castle nut now that it’s working like it should. Before putting it back, I weighed myself holding the gun then set it down and weighed myself again. The difference was 10.3 pounds, hefty but not horrible. What do your .308’s weigh? Please provide the basic configuration as well... Aero M5 carbine, 13.5” handguard, 16” barrel, 1x8 LPVO / 10.3 pounds with no mag or ammo
  7. The Rangemaster thought so too, last night he offered to let me shoot his 1860 something .45-70 Rolling Block carbine in exchange for letting him shoot the .308. I gladly accepted...

  9. Right, I guess we know who the real experts are👍
  10. Waiting on a few things to finish this thing up, then I'm done for awhile...
  11. The pull weight "feels" lighter due to how smooth it is (if that makes sense)
  12. I got it dialed in at 50 yards, the next logical step will be to take it out farther and try some different factory loads to determine what the gun likes. Hopefully it can consistently shoot 1 MOA, if it does I’ll be satisfied.
  13. Thanks to all the guys that responded to my previous thread regarding short stroking/fail to feed issues. I’m happy to report that my .308 shoots like a dream. Tonight I ran 75 rounds through the gun without a single stoppage, even after several double taps in quick succession. The bolt locks open on an empty mag, just as it should. I’m so grateful after suffering such crushing disappointment 2 weeks ago. I really appreciate the help, thanks so much. You guys rock! The fix? Enlarging the barrel gas port with a #44 drill and swapping the 3.8 ounce buffer and spring for one of Slash’s 5.5 ounce heavy buffers and corresponding buffer spring.
  14. Greetings from Minnesota
  15. EOTech XPS2-0GRN to finish out a recent build
  16. Having successfully built several 5.56 AR’s I thought it would be fun to try one in .308. It’s been a little frustrating but rewarding at the same time because it’s forced me to learn what makes the platform work. I’m excited to get it back to the range tomorrow after work to see if my efforts paid off.
  17. I upgraded to the QMS in my first AR build after being disappointed with the grittiness of the trigger that came in a DPMS LPK. The improvement was impressive enough that I tried an ACT for my next build. It’s been my go to FCG ever since, currently I have the ACT in 3 builds and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for an upgraded mil spec trigger.
  18. Correction, 12 brightness settings (I fat fingered my response)
  19. I went with a Swampfox Arrowhead 1x8 LPVO with the BDC reticle. The reticle illumination has 21 settings, from barely visible to extremely bright. There is an off position between each of the settings so you can "preset" the dial and your desired level of illumination is just 1 small click away. Good reviews and loads of features at a reasonable price point. I look forward to dialing it in once I get this gun to run. 20. An indoor range near me looks the same, bullet holes in the partitions, light fixtures, metal guards for the target holders, etc...
  21. The heavy buffer and spring showed up in today's mail. I'll update with a range report on Thursday.
  22. I got the upper, lower and hand guard back from Cerakote on Friday, so I spent the evening putting things together. The gas tube was backordered or it would be 100% finished. I'm still trying to choose an optic, it will likely end up with an Eotech XPS2-0GRN. The Cerakote color is Magpul OD Green. I haven't weighed it yet but this feels like the lightest AR in my meager collection. 23. Drilled the gas port out with a #44 bit and carefully reassembled the upper. Patiently waiting for my buffer stuff to show up so I can give it another try. One of the guys that’s shooting on our Thursday night pistol league generously offered to bring in his DPMS pattern.308’s to the range so we could swap around some parts to troubleshoot any malfunctions. I’m fairly confident it’s going to work so I told Doug let’s wait and see. I also shot a pic of the key end of the gas tube, it’s slightly past center of the cam pin cut out. Please tell me it’s GTG...
  24. Thanks, I will follow up with a range report when the mods are done.
  25. WC says: We set up our gas ports to run with carbine buffer systems (3.8 ounce carbine buffer and AR10 carbine spring) Standard (non adjustable) gas blocks are recommended. If your gun is short stroking with this setup you might might have a burr in the gas port or it might need to be opened by a couple of thousandths. A good gunsmith can assist you with that. Thanks! Since it obviously won’t run as is, I’ll have to get some number drills, can anyone recommend a quality brand that is suitable for a stainless barrel?
