LR308 Trigger question
98Z5V replied to str8shuutr45's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Believe it or not, I was coming in here to suggest this. You can even go with the Armalite 2-stage National Match, and it's not Geissele-priced. It's adjustable, dependable, and a very, very good trigger. I have one, and I have no intentions of ever getting rid of it. It is an excellent trigger, and won't break the bank. It's a little more than the RRA 2-stage, but very well worth it. -
I'm with ya. To me, "MSR" means Modular Sniper Rifle. Nothing more.

They had a great booth setup at SHOT - lot's of good stuff, including the 308. They do very high quality work.

Spent about 45 minutes talking to Dale at Elite Iron. What a great conversation! His Revolution Bipod is SMART. He's got some other stuff that I'll cover, too. Here's the vid on the bipod:

Okay, I can't get the info on FCW to load, for some reason... Anyway, we probably spent a total of 3 or 4 hours over the course of the show, just talking to Travis Frerking. He's one cool guy. Funny stories, good times, and he's got one AWESOME piece of hardware coming out. I've got pics, but I will not post them until I can get his permission. I'll call him next week. At any rate, I'll try to get him on the forum - he'd fit right in around here, I have NO doubt!... <lmao>

Several discussions I had with manufacturers: Barnes Bullets: With the ATF letter coming out a couple years ago about the solid-construction of some bullets, and thus going into an "armor piercing" category, you filed a request for exemption on many calibers for the TSX banded solid copper bullets, but you didn't file for the .224" category. What's the status on the exemption requests you filed, and will you include the .224 in the future? Answer: The copper construction of the banded solid TSX is NOT an armor piercing projectile. (conversation interruption - I gave him a big HELL YEAH IT'S NOT! right there in the conversation). The ATF's letter was never intended for the Barnes TSX, but they took those steps ahead of time just to make sure they were't lumped into that category in the future. They have never received an answer from BATFE on the exemption request they filed, for the calibers they filed, and they don't expect to get an answer. They will NOT pursue an exemption for the .224 projectiles, and they do not make them anymore. They won't make them in the future. Bummer. Next question was - how does Silver State Armory still manufacture and sell loaded 70 TSX ammunition? Answer: We don't know, but they must have purchased alot of them when they could - we haven't made them in awhile. Next Booth - Silver State Armory: Question: How do you guys still manufacture .223 ammo loaded with the Barnes 70 TSX? Barnes isn't making those anymore... Answer: We buy alot of bullets, in very large quantities. I don't know how many of those we bought, but I can say that we buy in lots that can be as large as 500,000 projectiles... Interesting... Next Booth: Hodgdon powders... Question: You guys still making Varget? I can't find that stuff ANYWHERE. Answer: Yeah we do! Lot's of it! I think we manufactured 50,000 pounds of Varget last year. If you can't find it, that means people are beating you to it, because we're still making ALOT of it. Bummer... Next Booth: Daniel Defense: Comments: What you guys did last January with the online ordering of custom rifles was INGENIOUS. You were the ONLY place for someone to buy an AR, at that time. If you could get into the website, construct your rifle, and make it to checkout, you received a rifle. You were the only people doing that, the ONLY place to buy a complete AR, and that kicked you up a notch (or many) in alot of people's eyes. Answer: (laughs) We try. I know we were trying to push out rifles in a week during that period, for those that would make it through checkout. We fell short, and some people didn't get their rifles for two weeks. (TWO WEEKS!!! Unreal, guys <thumbsup> ). Next comment: Did you guys bring your new Mk12 to the show? Answer: Yeah, it's right over here... Wow, guys, that Mk12 is SWEET! We discussed the rail on it - it's not really the new Lite II rail. It's more. What it has become will be the NEW rails from DD, the Lite III. If you order a Mk12 rifle, you get that rail on it. Once they introduce the Lite III line, you'll be able to order that rail separately, as a Lite III. The full line of rails will have Lite III offerings (I don't know if the Lite II will be phased out, or if both will still be offered)... Cool... Next, pay attention to Frerking Custom Works... http://fcwguns.com/ I'll get more info up as I go through notes, and business cards.

Never. There will never be a TDP on the .308 AR rifles. Know why? Demand. The entire military force - all branches - moved to the M16. It became the PRIMARY weapon of all services, in a time of war. As that refined, there needed to be a standard, so gunsmiths didn't need to be repairing rifles -unit armorers could diagnose and replace interchangeable parts. Interchangeable, because there is a standard. The need for 308 ARs is NOT widespread. Until such a time comes, there won't be an established standard.

No worries, dude. Just for me - wanted to make sure I knew what spring you had there. <thumbsup>

Handled these 4.0 versions last week. All they had there were XDs 9s. Not one single XDs 45 in the 4.0 was present. Not one. <dontknow>

#1. See if you can take that receiver extension in one more turn. Might make it, might not. #2. I hope that's a buffer retaining pin spring. It's not a takedown or pivot pin spring. There is no detent spring in these.

Well... She does NOW... <lmao>

No brother - Hazard 4 "Plan B" pack. Picked up two of them last year for Xmas, so wearing it for a full year now. Picked up another one at the show, too. Good bag. <thumbsup>

Now THIS is a funny story! So, it's Friday, the last day. Already, the herd is thinner. Easier to move about, get through "less of a crowd," and see more. Dawn Marie and I are outside one of the LE/MIL halls, and I says "Grab the camera! It's my brother!" She just thinks I'm batschit crazy, but gets the camera out anyway. I see a guy talking to another couple of people, so I walk casually closer, and just politely wait. This guy turns around, sticks his hand out, and says "Hey Thomas! Hello Dawn! How's the show going for you?" I say "Pretty good - definitely easier to move about today... How's it been for you?" He says "Hectic. On the go the whole time, and I'm late for missed meetings with people I've been failing to meet all week long..." Now, in this pic here, I'm in the middle of THIS story with him... "You know, up to last year I had a full beard. We look just like brothers... At least in pictures anyway. We're almost identical - but I can't shoot like you can..." THAT right THERE got some laughs!!! <laughs> <lmao> Only chatted for a few minutes, but it was one of the most easy-going conversations of the whole week. I kid you not. BOOM! THAT SCHIT JUST HAPPENED!!! :hethan:

ProMag 7.62x51 mags. 20 round, 30 round, and 40 round. They RUSHED the 30 and 40 versions to get them to SHOT. I'll be in contact with the awesome young lady that allowed me to get the pic. I'll offer to buy one of each, pre-production, with the guarantee that WE WILL SHOOT THEM in various SR-25/DPMS based 308 AR rifles, and get the performance feedback to her. I especially want SurvivalShop to shoot these through his CMMG, the one that hates Pmags and will only feed from factory DPMS mags. <thumbsup>

First, I absolutely MUST thank Roger and George. Without them, I never would have been able to go. That task would have been UNpossible without Battle Arms support - Thank you guys - all of you - for doing that for us. That's from both Dawn and I, and we sincerely appreciate it. Plus, so many people we asking questions, thinking I was part of BAD... I answered as best I could, passed info to Roger, got info back to the people... <lmao> So, first up... The new Battle Arms Development lower receivers. This one is in the white, raw aluminum. All finishing machinework is complete, and it hasn't been annodized yet. There's alot to like about these receivers, guys. Hard to judge it in the pics, but when you compare it next to any other lower receiver, everything stands out CLEARLY. * All corners are smoother, all edges are cleaner. * The tooling/cutter they use for the threading of the receiver extension will make for a stronger receiver (IMHO - I have no proof of that, besides some gun-smarts, and seeing these things for years and years). In short, there's more "meat" in the back of the receiver, and less cutting - more material without increasing the outside dimensions. * The magwell has a more aggressive flare, more taper, for getting mags in there. There's ZERO evidence of flashing. It has ALL been removed. Note the pic of the trigger area - you'll usually see a raised ledge that runs from front to back. Flashing, just machined flat. It not even there on these lowers. Nor is it present on the front of the magwell, below the pivot pin area - another common area to see flashing on other lowers. * The magwell is Wire EDM cut, not broached. * The machining throughout is superb. Right now, there's ALOT more time in the finish-machining on these than you'll see on other lowers out there. Also, the engraving is all lasered - it's not engraved with cutters. There's 30 minutes of laser-time in each receiver. George and Roger have plans to cut that time down, but for right now, it is what it is. All that - the time spent on these receivers - equates to longer production time. In a sense, that means fewer can be built, without sacrificing something. And, they are not going to sacrifice anything on these. Long story longer, these are not designed to be a "limited edition" items, but not very many will be "cranked out in huge volume" either. When you see them for sale, you better get on it. <thumbsup>

Hey brother... because of you, I planned for it!

HOLY SCHIT!... Having info, and no way of getting it to you guys is ANNOYING!!! :soap: Okay, we left Vegas at 1:30 AM this morning - enough time to account for the hour time zone change, the 5 hour drive, and another 30 minutes to pee beside the road when necessary - and still make it to work at 8AM this morning. Just got home, have a few things to go through, and I'll start getting information up here. I met my twin brother there. <thumbsup>

Brother, I DO have TWO shirts now! I'll be flashin'... <thumbsup> I completely didn't send anything out to you, when I said I would. DNP hooked me up with two XL shirts at the shoot yesterday. If he hadn't done that, I was already planning on trying to straight-steal one from Jon... <lmao>

Just kidding! Love you, baby! :ove3: :love4: :eek13:
