Question about Rock River Operator

I have a Rock River Operator with the Half-Quad tube.  The thing weighs a ton!  Is Rock Rivers barrel nut for the tube proprietary?  Is there something else out there that will fit it?

Some handguard manufacturers state that their Armalite handguards will fit Rock River LAR-8s.

 

That handguard IS heavy!

This is a 5.56.  The grip portion is about a 1/4" thick at the bottom.

The barrel nut may be different, but the receiver is still standard threads. Just rip off the old barrel nut and replace with the barrel nut of your choosing. Most new hand guards come with a barrel nut anyways. What are you thinking about going to?

^^^  What he said.  It's a 5.56 rifle, so you have unlimited options.

Only their .308 is proprietary, 5.56 you can mix and match.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with the barrel nut, just do a swap.  Don't have a clue what I want at this point,  I just want something lighter.  I'm not big on quad rails. I have a 6.8 Coyote Carbine with just a round (I think it is a Hogue) free float tube that is way lighter than that one.  

 

I'll just add it to the list of things I need for these rifles.  Damn this hobby (addiction) is getting expensive.

I had the Coyote w/20" HBAR.Damn nice rifle.Handguard was nice also,I drilled holes for MagPul rails w/blind nuts for rails.
