Cali_Ed Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Hey guys, Do you guys manualy make a dope card or do you guys use ballistic programs on the interwebs to make them?
98Z5V Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) Start with programs for basic info, verify your own rifle, make up the data that fits your rifle and load. Programs are awesome for factory ammo, they're awesome if you plug in every single variable for your own loads (and weather/environmental), but always verify that your own rifle will shoot that. Know how to correct for weather/environmental. Edited March 3, 2015 by 98Z5V
Magwa Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I agree with 98 find the best data you can then go verify I know this last year I got a elk just because I verified how the barnes tsx 168 flew at 200, 300, and 400.
Cali_Ed Posted March 3, 2015 Author Report Posted March 3, 2015 Thanks guys, would I verify by t3sting the loads at a few distances the dope card indicates or with a chrony?
Magwa Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I don't care what the speed is but i want to see exactly where it hits at all the distances I will use it...
survivalshop Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 Different knob adj. for what ranges your shooting , for the different loads you use , if more than one .That goes on the dope or range card , what settings for each range past or below your Zero set range . With that on a card & all you have to do is adj. for wind & other conditions you think you need to consider at the time of the shot. Having a scope that you can reset the Knobs to zero on the dials , is a good feature .
MONTANA308 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 I use the jbm ballistic calculater and then go out and test my dope and make adjustments from there. I like the jbm calculator but Berger's calculater seems pretty good as well. http://www.jbmballistics.com/ballistics/calculators/calculators.shtml
Cali_Ed Posted March 5, 2015 Author Report Posted March 5, 2015 I hd looked up jbm the other day, a long range shooter at the range I go to reccomend it to me. He frequents 1k range.
