IM_JOHNNYV
Would like to get some recommendations on which handgun to buy.I'll be looking for a handgun that meets the following criteria:Semi-automaticI'm a pretty big guy, so I'll be looking for something that my whole hand can grip9mm (always had a thing regarding ammo availability)Hi capacity magazineAdjustable sightRail is a must for laser (even if I never use it)The finish must compliment the weaponSporting, target, and home defense use (not for concealed carry)No polymer frame guns (I'm very old school on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum)Something that can be field stripped easilyParts availabilityAnd lastly, something that won't break the bank (under $600.00)
imschur
First thought Beretta 92A1 comes close. Thats a tough price point with those specs. Does it have to be new? A 3rd generation S&W like a 5906 variant used would get you there.
IM_JOHNNYV
Always liked the Beretta. When in Europe last year, I noticed the majority of the police carried the Beretta and also the military. Appreciate you input......JohnNRA Life Member 1976
imschur
I have had a 92FC since early - mid 90's. It has been great weapon that just keeps on working
hobbesgunner
Hi cap and a rail under 6 bills is gonna be tough... drop the metal frame requirement and you'd have a truckload of choices. Like my 1911's but I'm a true believer in Glock now....when it absolutely, positively has to work every time at anytime
edgecrusher
hey johnny 5, i like glock also. the 17 is the full size frame, and although i don't have that one, i do have the slightly smaller 19 and the compact 26, and both are fantastic shooters, fill my large (not xtra) hands, and fill your requirements. the best advise would be to try to shoot as many as you can before you purchase, although i know thats not always the easiest thing to do. Madhouse
Springfield Arms XDM-9 or a FNH USA FNP-9, those would be my suggestions
imschur
he ruled out polymer frames...thats the rub
Madhouse
Dang, missed that criteria.Well then, move to .45 and you can get the Kimber Ten II - I have one and love it for a high-cap 1911.

Madhouse
And the 9mm criteria. I'm thinking impossible.Although, when I bought my Ten II, it was $675.
imschur
I enjoyed this question. It made me realize how much has changed in the past two decades. Been at this long enough to feel like an old guy out of touch with prices when I look at guns I bought in my youth and see they have nearly if not doubled in price. Funny though The Beretta hasnt actually gone up as much as the the others. In September 1993 I paid $532.10 for my 92FC.

survivalshop
I guess you could put an adj. sight on any hand gun . The price, rail & metal frame requirements are going to make a very short list, very short. The 92 ( what is it , 92 AF for the adj. sight mod ? ) but what about the rail ? I've never been a Beretta fan so not sure whats on the newer models .
