Schwansonite
Im trying to find the best free float rail one piece for under $300 at most (sucks I know)I dont know if this looks legit or not? I mean carbon fiber/aluminum/and steel? What happens when you drop it?http://www.pri-mounts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PRI&Product_Code=03-072-14B&Category_Code=308_ACC
imschur
PRI is a solid company. I havent seen this unit in person. I normally dont let appearance affect a decision but Im not a fan of the carbon fiber look, but thats just me. You can get a similar arrangement with a JP/VTAC for less money. Also keep in mind what I said in the other thread about DPMS changing the rail height. Theres a few manufacturers who have just released or are about to release FFHG of the correct height but most will be off.How old is your DPMS? imschur
BTW this parts insanity is one of the primary reasons I created this site and forum

Schwansonite
haha, Well thank you for creating it, because I'm on it religiously! I love looking at everyones rifle! I'm just in a bind trying to find a good rail and a low profile gas block for
imschur
Theres a thread somewhere on the forum that shows you how to verify the picatinny height. Probably need to look that up before you proceed. If your is current production the choices will be limited if rail alignment matters to you. DPMS, Troy and the new Samsons will be out in a few weeks
98Z5V
The original SOF SPR program (also the Navy Mk12 Mod0 rifle) used the PRI tube. It's plenty tough enough. <thumbsup>
Matt.Cross
The original SOF SPR program (also the Navy Mk12 Mod0 rifle) used the PRI tube. It's plenty tough enough. <thumbsup>PRI Also now has the same forend & monolithic rail combo for AR10 & LR308 ARs now... Thinking of finally building that Mk12 Mod0 mockup in .308 now... 98Z5V
DNP has this rail setup on his .308 build. I'll find a link.Rail pics start here on Page 3:http://308ar.com/forum/index.php/topic,264.30.html
Robocop1051
If you are looking for light-weight, adaptable and free-float... I have to throw out Apex Machine. I bought their rifle length "gator grip" handguards, and I am very impressed. The rifle length DPMS version weighs a bit more than 10oz. You can mix/match rails as you like. One problem. If you want a hidden gasblock, it must be a VERY low profile. The Apex handguard is damn near the same diameter as the AR15, and is not very forgiving on space. I think VLTOR makes a low-pro that will work... Or a modified A2 front sight. Apex also makes two different top rails for the DPMS versions. Both the original picatinny height and the new height. 98Z5V
Robo, can you possibly get the dimensions for ID on the Apex? If you can, I can list a bunch of lo-pro gas blocks that will work. <thumbsup>

Robocop1051
DD also makes a pinned low-pro GB, if you want something smaller than the clamp-on style.
