DPMS Upper

BIGBREW

Recommended Posts

it seems to me.. the two heights are .150" and the other is .200 or .210"? The floating guards will be designated as 'high' or 'low' profile for dpms. midwest industries makes both. I think troy, jp and a bunch of the other 'big name' handguard producers will make in both patterns. NOW... asking me why dpms does different heights.. *shrug* Have no clue. It may have to do with some of the differences like direct impingement and rod driven operating system.

**edit**

As far as who sells them - a lot of people 'vend' those receiver sets.. just, it seems over the last few weeks almost everyone is showing 'out of stock'. mayhaps.. due to the loonies out there trying to be mass terrorists... passage of the sword.. *shrug* All I know is, firearm sales are at a record high.

Any new DPMS brand upper you buy now will be the "low" height. The low rail is the same height over bore as a standard AR15. This makes it easier if you are using a FSB or a flip up sight gas block, as all the normal AR15 parts line up as designed.  The old/high DPMS height was about the same as the AR10. Its about 1/16" higher over bore than a standard AR15 which may limit you if you want a barrel mounted front sight. DPMS pretty much stopped making the high uppers around 2009 so chances are there aren't any for sale outside of used. Lots of people were annoyed when they changed heights, and they didn't really explain why they did it, so the aftermarket was slow to adapt. Many DPMS compatible uppers are made in both heights, and they sold a bazillion of the old ones before they switched, so there are plenty of companies making rails for both heights. If you plan on using rail mounted buis and a low pro gas block it really doesn't make any difference, just make sure the parts you want are going to work together before you start buying.

There is also the goofy "target" height that nothing matches up with that's about half inch taller. Don't see those around too much anymore.

Who sells them? Can't find anyone, I have the lower and want a matching set.

Just to make sure, you have a DPMS lower? You don't explicitly say that. The contours in front of the stock extension post on the lowers are different, so not everyone's upper fits everyone's lower as on the AR15. You might try the Aeroprecision M5 uppers. They are periodically on sale.

If it is a DPMS , the Fulton will fit just like a DPMS ,  I have one on a DPMS lower , its an older one with the pre-2009 rail height, if you need a photo , let me know . I always thought they were made by the same manufacturer as DPMS or made by them , they are not Billet , Unless they have changed , I doubt it , but Ya never know .
