EasyEJL Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 I'm looking at doing a private party transaction to buy a relatively rare pistol for $1250, but i'm really iffy about sending someone that much in a money order without being able to be sure the gun is real, not stolen, etc. It would be great to have a brother go check it out for me.
sketch Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 I wonder if ffl can run a serial #? good question? if seller has no qualms his should be the only info in question?
EasyEJL Posted August 9, 2016 Author Report Posted August 9, 2016 yeah, i'm sure he'll send a serial, so I can check to make sure it isn't stolen. Just it's a little scary to send $1300 to someone you don't know that you found on armslist for a pistol. I wish there was a good escrow service. Like $400 I can feel ok about the risk, but that's a bit more :)
planeflyer21 Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 It can be a nervous endeavor but I've never had an issue purchasing a firearm off of an auction site. Brass, yes. But all the firearms were not an issue. Most auction sites also insure the transactions, so if you get ripped off you get compensated. Timelines are involved, so make sure to report any anomolies ASAP. Check the sellers ratings by other purchasers. If there are ANY bad reviews, research them! I've bought from people that had a bad review or three but only if the seller had thousands of transactions.
EasyEJL Posted August 9, 2016 Author Report Posted August 9, 2016 No seller ratings on armslist, it's more like craigslist in that way. I guess i'll get him to send me a clear photo of the serial, plus his drivers license and go from there. an HK MK23 for $1250 is a steal :)

EasyEJL Posted August 9, 2016 Author Report Posted August 9, 2016 of course, I also just bought a tommy gun, so the money isn't quite here yet to pay for that (should be soon though, probably by Monday)
392heminut Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 You might also be able to get an officer to do an NCIC check for you. Do you have any friends on the local PD or SO? As long as you have the sellers name and address they should be able to do it for you. They need the sellers info in case they get a hit on it.
