Mr Matt.Cross posted a thread on installing the VTAC FFT ( http://308ar.com/forum/index.php/topic,328.0.html )

Does anyone know where to find that barrel nut wrench used on the VTAC nut in the thread? Or at least have any info on one that will suffice.

I have the PRI wrench but I'm not sure it is going to work. I know the AR15 VTAC FFTs use the standard armorers wrench but I'm just not sure about the LR308, as it seems everything about the lr308 is always one off.

Great how to thread good info!  I will need that information real soon, like Tuesday :) however I still need to locate a suitable wrench.

Thanks, I actually have the pri wrench you have listed there, I guess my question is will it work on the JP VTAC barrel nut. After viewing Matts thread I noticed he was using something that seemd specific to the unit. And I am always looking for a reason to buy new tools  ;) a guy can never have too many tools in the garage 8)

I originally had plans on using the DPMS FFT, So I ordered the tools needed for that, but after seeing the various threads here displaying the JP VTAC I just had to go out and get one of the 15.5" variety. Now I am trying to figure out if there is a special wrench needed for the barrel nut on the VTAC or if what I have will work. If not I have an excuse to order more toys.... I mean tools.  ;D

I should actually know the answer to your question. Problem is I have done a few AR-15's and DPMS 308's with VTACs and my memory is messing with me on which wrench I used. Something is telling me the VTAC even though it's 308 it uses an AR-15 wrench

Instruction read

" use standard armorers wrench to apply 50-80 foot-pounds of torque as necessary to alien the lock nut to gas tube channel. " .

I think I used a YH wrench on mine & I made mine flush with the upper receiver ,no loc tight.

Has to be fitted that way . I didn't like the gap .

I used the big-ass dpms wrench (BADW), one end is for the ar15 type, and the other for the sr25 type.

Hi Guys  So im getting ready for my new mega build this week and just remembered I had trouble with the big azz dpms not fitting tight enough on the troy extreme barrel nut and boogering the barrel nut up...yes i understand there are two different ends but neither one worked worth a crap on the troy trx 308dpms barrel nut part number strx-308-dobt-00 so I called em and ordered a another nut which I have settin on the bench...so now im tryin all my different ar wrenchs ....tech at troy told me the dpms was the one to use last month ,but nope it wasnt....so guess which wrench fits the 308 troy like a glove?  Its just the old lil square three prong wrench for the m16a1 that I had still in cosmoline.....yippee  gtg for Friday!

<thumbsup>Wash
