Malig8r
Hey there fellas, I'm in the market for a new spotting scope tripod and I'm not really familiar with all the considerations. I've read a bit and was still wondering if any of you have some input on the ones you use. I will be using it for range work and backpack hunting in the mountains. Right now I'm looking at this one: http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=2110416&categoryId=0&parentCategoryId=0&subCategoryId=0&indexId=0&productVariantId=4190040&quantity=1&itemGUID=&destination=/user/wishlist.jsp I also like this one: http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=1981904&categoryId=0&parentCategoryId=0&subCategoryId=0&indexId=0&productVariantId=4173649&quantity=1&itemGUID=&destination=/user/wishlist.jsp I'm leaning towards the Manfrotto right now... sketch
shits expensive .. i had no idea? might hit a camera/ telescope shop and see whats feesable? I get the weight issue if packing to the hills but how often and how much abuse will it see. I'd get a 30$ tripod and treat it like the scope. but thats me.. I'm going to keep looking and see what else I can dig up in the way of reviews. This isn't going to be an impulse buy so I have time. Will let you know what I decide upon. Malig8r
So I decided on the Alta Pro tripod kit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003WKOENO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1506348905&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=alta+pro+tripod&dpPl=1&dpID=41myvecKN8L&ref=plSrch My plan is to head out to the range Saturday or Sunday and I'll let you know what I think. I looked pretty hard at the Vortex line but the Alta Pro got great reviews in multiple locations. I know it's a camera based tripod but it can handle more weight and has crazy angles if needed. I couldn't justify the cost associated with carbon fiber versions at this point...there are some cheaper carbon fiber options but I subscribe to the buy once cry once theory to a point of fiscal responsibility. Tuflehundon
I picked up a camera tripod from a local camera shop for around $40. I've been using it for years. I don't worry as much about weight though.
