I have a couple of them , not in 308 , but in 5.56 & my 300BLK is a WC barrel ( all of them Stainless Steel ), great shooting & nicely done Barrels , IMO .

Fixing to start a build and know they make quality 1911s, so seems like they're barrels would be quality also. Trying to decide between  a 14.7 p&w or 16 inch. Want it to be not too heavy and not worried about anything over 350 yards at this moment.

How is the recoil of that short barrel in 338?

Softer than .308 Winchester, honestly.  I don't know why, but that .338 Fed shoots softer.  No kidding.  I've had others here try it out, and it's a shock to them, too.

Mine too.  I have an X-Caliber 18" barrel on my .338 Federal build and it does shoot a bit softer than the 18" Faxon .308.  The .308 has a Miculek brake while the .338 has a generic compensator.  There isn't much difference and both shoot very soft, very close to my 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel but I was really surprised with the .338.  I have LaRue MBT2 triggers on them now and they are very comfortable shooters.
