I say go for it - it's gotta be just as strong of an action as the Ruger #1 (highest loading pressures you can go on the 45/70). 

There are a few of us here that have 45/70s, but not that CVA. Here's my kid eating some of my handloads...  :laffs:

Primary arms makes an affordable little red dot optic, he has one mounted on his 45/70 and it’s taken the lickin and kept on tickin
