Cw434
For my oracle I am wanting a longer barrel and ditch the flash hider since it is going to be a hunting rig. I have in mind an 18 or 20 inch fluted stainless and target crowned barrel. I would also like it to be black similar to what it is on my factory barrel. Any ideas where I should look? imschur
You sneaky man - I didn't even know you had a whole bolt of ATACS cloth... :o I was on them from the day the product was announced. They hooked me up on the initial run and I had it before product manufacturers. Told them I would use it in my photo's and true to my word it's been in nearly every product shot, even fishing tackle <laughs>
Cw434
Something just like that but already crowned and preferably not sass so I could use any gas block. Also would I be able to use any length gas system on this new barrel? Considering my oracle uses a carbine length system. I know I would have to get the appropriate gas tube but would everything else work?
imschur
I dont know of an off the shelf barrel that meets your criteria. If I did I probably would have bought it too :)
Cw434
I saw exactly what I think I'm looking for on a r 25 .308 my buddy has. I have had no luck locating just an r25 barrel. Any suggestions on that option?
Robocop1051
Call Remington! I'm very fond of the R25 barrel myself. I encourage you to at least try.
survivalshop
Sounds like you want a custom barrel & should talk to the bbl. manufacturers directly. Most will make any thing you want , for a price .Why a longer barrel for hunting ? I like short rigs for hunting , less weight ,quicker to shoulder & the 16" is pretty good for hunting ranges on game , unless you want to go long range , then you need things different & weight will not be one of the factors.I would ditch the FS ,but install a Brake /comp. ,it will greatly enhance your rifles shootability . The only down side is a little more noise & I never hear the shot go off when putting it to a game animal any way, only the one next to you will hear it . Cw434
I have been reading around on here for a while and decided to try and squeeze some more accuracy out of my oracle(mainly a hunting rifle but who doesn't want tiny groups at the range). First on my list is a trigger followed by a stainless fluted barrel with a little more length and a target crown. I emailed dpms and they said neither them nor Remington sell them separately. I guess a custom barrel would be my only option. I guess I'll try a a comp instead of the FH for now and see how that works. Is there any particular model you guys like? Robocop1051
Battlecomp or PWS are the most common universal front end choices. You really can't go wrong with either.
survivalshop
The good 16" bbl. can surprise you with its accuracy. I can see why you want a S/S bbl. for hunting & such . That's all I put on my 308's .A good trigger will astound you with the difference in grouping . Hunting , target , its all the same to me , I try to get the most accuracy out of my rifle & ammo , because if you get that shot of a life time , a good grouping rifle will not let you down. Cw434
That's exactly what I think I'll end up with. I have been trying to research as much as I can on compensators and so far it's inconclusive. I like the idea of reduced recoil but I read somewhere (and I'm not sure about which comp) that it won't affect accuracy out to 200 yds. Does that mean they do affect accuracy past 200? Or there any comps that are more long range suited than others? I would like this to be a 500 yd setupAnd I am wondering if I would be better off going target crowned. Once I've got all that figured out all I need is an apex ff tube, lo pro block, geissele or gold( not yet decided), and an ergo grip and I'll be set. Maybe then I'll be satisfied.... Maybe
survivalshop
As long as the Comp is attached correctly , it shouldn't effect performance down range at all.The bullet is out of the barrel & past the comp ,for it to do its thing. All the gas is behind the bullet.Just make sure a barrel vice/blocks is used for removal or install of any muzzle device.
