Colt HBAR question

I have an older colt hbar with a heavy barrel and a carry handle. I’m thinking about making it into a carbine. Can I just buy a complete upper from say aero and pop it on? can use my existing bolt correct.

I recently escaped CT and moved to Florida. Thanks for the response! I shot a lot of guns but don’t really know much about them, just handed them to an armor and they came back fixed.

It’s a pre ban that’ll bring you some good money. More than enough to buy a new one with an optic. It could also provide someone trapped behind the line a weapon. Just a thought

Yes you can, but I would seriously consider taking it to an experienced firearms dealer and find out it’s worth to collectors. I think you could pick up a nice carbine plus have some additional pocket money if you chose to sell it. Just my opinion. I have an HBAR and modified it. I would have been money ahead if I had sold it instead.

How would I know if it’s a pre ban for sure? I know nothing, sorry.

Somewhere on the web or at Colt there is a list by serial number of when the rifles were made. Made before x date is preban.

Although the serial number came back nothing found I’m pretty sure it’s post ban. It has no flash hider on it.
