GStephen Posted December 12, 2022 Report Posted December 12, 2022 After reading what has been talked about gas tube length I checked mine and it looks like if a 12 1/16” was used, it would be a bit past the middle. Rough measurements show that it is the 11.75”. It’s a psa 18” mid length 308 upper with adjustable gas block on a g3-10 psa lower with a 5.1 oz buffer and orange sprinco spring. I use a rugged Razor suppressor on it and so far it hasn’t failed to cycle properly. Or should I leave it alone?
GStephen Posted December 12, 2022 Author Report Posted December 12, 2022 It’s a 5.3 oz buffer, not 5.1 as I typed earlier
shooterrex Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 I had the same length gas tube on my PSA. The gun did run. I replaced the gas tube w/the Armalite 308 carbine gas tube anyway. It comes just past the middle of the cam cut out.

I am not good enough at measuring to know if the additional length would bottom out in gas key

You'll be fine. We see this all the time, and every single time from PSA. That 18" midlength barrel should have a 0.750" gas block journal diameter, and it SHOULD have a 0.085" gas port diameter to run properly. I'm willing to bet money your gas port diameter is 0.070" - and your gun is running because of the increased backpressure of the can on there. Just my $0.02.

I ordered the gas tube but couldn’t find pins on their website. Will I be able to use the old pin again? I called a few times and never got ahold of anyone Edited December 13, 2022 by GStephen
shooterrex Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 I have used the pins over again. Just use the proper size roll pin punch.
GStephen Posted December 13, 2022 Author Report Posted December 13, 2022 I do have a set of roll pin punches
98Z5V Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 Here's a complete list of roll pins in ARs. This is for AR15s, but it's the same stuff for the .308ARs. https://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/pins.html
GStephen Posted December 24, 2022 Author Report Posted December 24, 2022 Tracking for the gas tube shows out for delivery today. Merry Christmas to me
blue109 Posted December 24, 2022 Report Posted December 24, 2022 That looks perfect....but honestly if the gun was running fine I don't think I would have bothered to change it out.
GStephen Posted December 25, 2022 Author Report Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) Is it my imagination that it doesn’t get as dirty inside nearly as quick? I just shot 10 rounds and it cycled great. It’s still pretty cold here today. Edited December 25, 2022 by GStephen
