Bench mounted priming tools.

NF1E

Recommended Posts

Have been trying out a few different bench priming tools recently. My right wrist and elbow just won't stand for the amount of priming I have been doing using hand priming tools.

So far have used the RCBS bench primer tool, LEE, Forster and Lyman with the Lyman being chosen.  Today a Derraco PCPS and a PrimalRights CPS came in. Looking forward to using them all. I do have a Lyman with auto feed on the way. Truly enjoying every minute of the process. Whatta Hobby!

A little ahead of schedule, the PrimalRights CPS is set up and ready to start priming. Took two 50 rnd batches or prepped brass out of the dryer , 50 .223 and 50 .308 then ran them through the neck sizing mandrels so they are ready to prime. Whatta Hobby!

Added some anti-slip rubber feet to the InlineFabrication mount I am using for the Primal Rights CPS. Feels like it is bolted to the bench but still portable. This mount has removable top plates so I can put whatever I would like on it in 10 seconds. Whatta Hobby!

Added Inline Fabrication quick change base plate to my Forster's home position on the right of the bench then added quick change plates for my Rock-Chucker, Forster Co-ax, Lyman Accu-Prime and Primal Rights CPS so any of these can mount either on the Inline Standing base or the base plate bolted to my bench. After all these years it's seems strange doing things right and not have to bolt and unbolt things as they get changed. Got a couple of spare quick change plates for additions. Whatta Hobby!

Yes Sir. Been a ham since 1961. No bazillionair though. During all my working years I set aside bucks for my hobbies during retirement. I worked until I was 75 and have since been enjoying life. Whatta Hobby!

There is some Collins and Kenwood ham gear in the background. QRZ has that call in CT.

Bad state to own all those nice guns.

Rgr on the Collins gear in the photo, but there are no Kenwood rigs in my shack. Yaesu and JRC in the bench. Yep been in CT except for my few years in the USMC. CT is s good state to own anything that is legal. Whatta Hobby!

Yep I am a Ham as well but just a General KG7SRO so what do you do with the priming tools you do not use after you try them all? and CT and Idaho have way different ideas on what is legal lol...yeah this hobby is a deep rabbit hole you just have to figure how far down you want to go....

I have a couple of Sons, grand sons and great grand kids that are getting into shooting a loading so there is no lack for places for used gear to find a home.

Many of my rifles and magazines were grandfathered when CT decided to go full libtard.

No, it isn't.  "Legal in your state" doesn't translate over to "Legal"  Not at all.

But, your state explains why you only do 100 yard shooting.  Explains alot, now...

As Ron Reagan said, " There you go again" .

As a note, I shoot on a local 1200yd rang a few miles from my home whenever I wish.

The range in my yard goes to 300 and 100 - 150 is my choice for the  precision shooting style I prefer. 1/4 moa is 1/4 moa whether it''s at 25 yds or 2500 yds. And no, I am not shooting benchrest my friend.  Whatta Hobby!

Cool - show us that 1200 yard range next time you're out there.

Would love to, but I believe it is still classified.  No cameras or cellphones allowed. This photo was taken a few years ago at Whittington Center during a shoot in New Mexico. Buffalo is over 1200 yds if that helps.  Whatta Hobby!

Is that you in the photo?  That's King of 2 Mile, at the Whittington Center, world famous if you follow long range shooting.  1200, they don't shoot during that, but it's badass for other things as well.

CT is pretty far from NM, and I searched a ton on CT, both in gun laws in the past, and recently, on ranges there.  You have to be shooting on private land, for 1200.  There's no other way around that.  Private land isn't "classified" - but you can use any words you want.  Furthest range I found in CT was 200 yards.  I searched alot.  Most pertinent, accurate results:

https://ctguns.org/t/list-of-connecticut-shooting-ranges-and-clubs/580

If you have a friend with a 1200 yard range, in CT, he could easily be a millionaire.  There's nothing close to 1200 yards in New England, unless you venture to Quantico.  I lived in Northern VA for a couple years, and as retired military, had access to the Quantico range, but only to 1000 yards.  The wait list for non-military was years long,  for civilian shooters that were trying to buy a membership.  Regular Members and Associate Members were a vastly different category -basically, if you weren't Active Duty, or a Retiree with 20+ years, you weren't getting a Regular membership.  If you were "veteran" meaning you did 4 years or whatever - not a career with 20 - you were competing for the Associate Membership - and that was a TIGHT process, years long waiting list...

You might look into it.  Everything is New England is close. It's not even like driving across Texas. Easily doable for a good day of shooting.

Then again, you have access to a 1200 yard range in CT.  That isn't public. Has to be private, nobody in CT has heard of such a thing - which is why I asked about pics, next time you're there.  It's interesting, to say the least, and unheard of for that area...

Nope, not me in photo, I was behind the camera, it's a friend from Colorado. Just a  note, The Litchfield Artillery has taken part in our openings and their canon at 500 yds is amazing. You are right about " many " ranges in excess of 300 yds in CT are not open to the public for good reason. There are even a few private airstrips that are " classified", not my wording, but it is accepted. Searches by keyboard commandos don't usually come up with anything, and that's good. Lot's of 50 Barrett and 338 Lapua shooters in my area. First photo is my loading area, second is another of my photos taken at Whittington Center and last is me providing some humor. Whatta Hobby!

Really liking the least expensive of the priming tool test so far. The Lyman Accu-Prime on the 5" InlineFabrication base is just what the Dr ordered for my precision loading application. No problem, for me, placing the primers individually in the tool. I seldom prime over a couple of hundred cases at a time and It make me feel like more a part of things. Only takes a few seconds to change tools on the base.  Whatta Hobby!
