I’m thinking about getting a can for my 7mm mag hunting rifle to save my ears or what’s left, my question is how well will it do in a standard barrel? I really don’t want to put a heavier barrel on this gun

The diameter of the barrel has nothing to do with the suppressors job. As long as it's threaded for the suppressor your good. The shorter the barrel the louder is kind of standard results. My 22 can on pistols is quiet but on a 16in rifle it's pellet gun quiet.

If you are worried about the additional weight of the suppressor, they vary considerably.  I recently put a RESILIENT SUPPRESSORS JOLENE S on a basic Tikka T3X Lite .308 bolt action with a regular (threaded) 20" barrel.  That particular suppressor only added 8oz to the total weight of the gun, and in my opinion, slightly improved the balance.  My buddy who was with me during my initial re-sighting in of the rifle said he couldn't really tell the difference in weight or balance with the suppressor.  Both of noticed a reduction in recoil (which wasn't bad to start with).  And, I now consider the rifle safe to shoot without hearing protection for hunting purposes.  I'd still recommend hearing protection for target practice.  Like you mentioned, save what hearing we have left.  I don't regret the purchase.
