98Z5V
I quit tracking it once the put it on the backburner. I wanted one, but it never got released... If they eventually put it out, I'll get one. The 5.56 set is DAMN nice.

GRA
After having built a Spike's Tactical AR15 as my very first AR15 ever, this is what I am currently leaning towards building in the near future. Any comments, suggestions, critiques will be appreciated.

BLKSHEEP
Good find GRA. Any comments, suggestions, critiques will be appreciated. It doesn't appear to me to be the same as the cad drawing. If Seekins Precision is making them (which im doubtful) it should be good to go although I don't see anything about it (need more pictures & info.) that's exciting me. GRA
Obviously this is starting to take off. Here's an ad in Texas Gun Trader and the seller posted it on March 10 of this year: http://texasguntrader.com/index.php?a=2&b=668128 Cut-and-paste does work if you can't access the link directly. Raining a lot here this weekend so I'll be doing some research. I'll post whatever good stuff I find on here. :)) Edited April 18, 2015 by GRA
BLKSHEEP
It looks just like the Palmetto State Armory PSA PA-10 receiver set to me. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/new-ar-10/psa-pa10-stripped-308-lower-receiver.html http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/ar-10-upper-parts/psa-pa10-stripped-upper-receiver.html I don't know who makes the receivers for PSA but Spikes does not make their own. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1STLX100&name=Spike%27s+Tactical+.308%2f7.62x51+Caliber+Lower+Receiver&groupid=722 http://www.primaryarms.com/Spikes_Tactical_DPMS_Spec_Forged_AR_308_Lower_Rece_p/stlx100.htm Maybe this is a hint someone will recognize> Features Note: This receiver uses non-standard takedown pins, pivot pins, and ARMALITE pattern bolt catch. Spike's Tactical will be releasing a proprietary parts kit with the proper parts included. Edited April 18, 2015 by BLKSHEEP
98Z5V
That set listed above is a forged set. the Spike's billet set never made it to production. Seekins made it, and it was released as a Seekins item.
GRA
I wonder who's take-down and pivot pins they are using?
GRA
Spoke with a vendor on GunBroker today. I'm told the pivot pins, bolt catch and mag catch come pre-installed on the lower. The remaining small parts are DPMS or otherwise AR15. Sounds like a Mega MATEN concept to me. This is getting a little more interesting as we progress. Thanks for posting the information and links about Palmetto. I'll check them out too.
GRA
Checked out Palmetto last night and was very impressed with their pricing. What bothers me now is I can't determine why some of these .308 rifles in the AR platform (in the "basic" class of these rifles) often cost hundreds more than others. I don't know enough yet about the .308 AR platform rifles to be able to determine where I'm paying more for name brands, etc. ? You gentlemen that are more experienced than I am with the .308 AR rifles will be appreciated if Y'all could find the time to advise me accordingly. That might just be from wherever that particular vendor is sourcing his parts from. Your best bet is straight from the horse's mouth - call Spike's Tactical. They're very easy to talk to, and will help you in any way. Stay away from Palmetto for the time being - there have been numerous reports of fitment issues. When pricing this stuff, keep this in mind - you do get what you pay for. Edited April 26, 2015 by 98Z5V

IF that Spikes is the same as the PSA I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole! If you're looking for a good quality receiver set on a budget lots of people are using the Aero Precision's. GRA
Thanks for the warning Gents. I did a search on PSA complaints and I am glad I paid attention to the posts on this forum. I am now skeptical of the Spike's set, even though the vendor claims the pins and other proprietary parts are already installed. Might pay to be patient and do a little research more research first. Thanks again. <thumbsup>
GRA
Now that I think about it I might just give this vendor a call. I'll post the outcome of the discussion on here afterwards.

Thanks for the Aero Precision suggestion. Reasonable prices and appears to be forged from the same materials. It is not so much that I am looking for a "budget" build but rather I don't really know what to look for with regards to the 308 AR build. Very different from the AR15 build. I don't want to buy cheap products in building a rifle but I need to make sure what I do spend goes as far as possible. I will strongly consider Aero Precision. Thanks Again <thumbsup>
GRA
Finally got in touch with the GunBroker vendor. Ver nice and knowledgeable. He confirmed the take-down/pivot pins, bolt and magazine catch is pre-assembled on the lower. He also confirmed the rest of the configuration of the receiver set is DPMS. Stated an AR15 lower parts kit should work for the rest of the parts. In our conversation he suggested Mega barrels. Does anyone have any in-depth experience with these? Anyone have any experience with Ares Armor barrels?
GRA
Sent payment off today for the Spikes .308 upper and lower receiver set. We'll see what these are all about. Seems nobody has done one of these yet (that I know of) so I figured ... WHY NOT ? <dontknow> Will update the thread when the shipment arrives and will advise on the vendor, etc,. 98Z5V
Will update the thread when the shipment arrives and will advise on the vendor, etc,. This original thread was about the Spike's .308 billet set, and that never made it to market. You should start a NEW thread about the Spike's forged set, and run with scissors in it. <thumbsup>
GRA
You got a point. I'm sure before they offer the billet set they will test the market on how well their forged sets sell. That's the way I would do it if I was already established yet offering a new product. When I get all the parts together I will go to the build section and start a new thread there. GRA
I know this site prefers new threads but I figured they would let this one slide considering the attempted resurrection not long ago. I hope this helps folks out. I would not be surprised to learn these are already sold out.
EngrBob
Not sure why Spikes never brought this up on their own site. I bought the lower from Joe Bob's and the upper from an armory in Ohio. They really made a nice pair, fit perfectly, and have run like a top.
