shibiwan
Dropping a couple of my kids to some club sleepover thing...then grabbing dinner. Any recommendations?
98Z5V
Brother!!! Right on the north side of Exit 203 is a damn good Mexican restaurant. Might be 1/4 mile off the highway, at the most, on the right-hand side. Directly across the street from it is a cheap hotel. Staying in that hotel was how I found the restaurant... <lmao>

392heminut
Too late. Had Commie... er Cuban food - was pretty good. :D Where did you get the Cuban food? I need addresses! My wife is Cuban and we've been to two Cuban restaurants in the Phoenix area. One was way high priced and the other wasn't very good. There used to be a great Cuban restaurant in Tucson (El Cubanito) down on 6th St. but they had a fire that gutted the building and the old Cuban man that ran it decided it was time to retire. My wife can cook some hellacious Cuban food but we're always on the lookout for a good restaurant.
planeflyer21
Ha! Larry when I started reading about you searching for a good Cuban restaurant, I was ready to say "We used to have El Cubanito…" But I see you at least got to try it. A couple of other Cuban restaurants have popped up but I've not tried them.
shepp
My gf's sister is married to a Cuban man they live outside of Miami. She's cooked some when she's come up but it's not that good lol, it's her cooking not the food. I love trying new food, it's hard to do up here in the land of meat potatoes cheese and beer. I like to cook tho I've been playing with cherizo latly.
shibiwan
The place in Casa Grande was Feli's. Pretty good, mid-high prices. ($15-$18 entrees) There's a great Cuban place in Chandler - Mimita's Cuban Cafe @ Warner & Arizona Ave. Try their garlic fish..... mmmm Another one in Tempe/Scottsdale area... more Puerto Rican than Cuban tho. Don't remember the name. Edited February 24, 2014 by shibiwan
392heminut
Shibi, thanks for the link to Mimita's. It looks pretty good and is on our list now. We've been to Feli's and the food was good but we felt it was overpriced. The restaurant you mentioned in the Tempe/Scottsdale area is I think, the one we didn't like the food much. Definitely have to go to Mimita's though. Jon, we didn't just try El Cubanito, we stopped there EVERY time we were in Tucson and it was open! My wife and the owner got to be really good friends, and it broke her heart when we found out about the fire.
shepp
Hemi I told my gf your wife was Cuban and she said ooooooo he's lucky!!!! We're making our Americanized Cuban tonight, rice black beans and smoked sausage. Like using smoked pulled pork when I've got some too
392heminut
I'm not a very big rice fan but Cuban black beans and rice is a whole different story! <thumbsup>
