I'm beginning to think that buying the books and tools to do it yourself is the only way to go.

unfortunately a 45 slide won't work for a 10mm. You need a 9mm, 38 Super, or 40 S&W slide. I've been trying to find a Colt Lightweight Commander in 9 or 38 Super to use as a conversion to a ramped 10mm carry gun, but they are so pricey that I finally figured out I can buy all the pieces brand new to build one for about a grand.

Fusion Firearms in Binghamton NY. Everything from complete custom guns to grip screws. Everything I've bought from them has been excellent.

Jeez Drew, you on some kinda handgun jones or somethin' ? A Sig, a Glock, a maybe H&K. You know someting about O'bama we haven't heard yet?
-
Dang boy, you memorize that, or you copying out of a magazine? Seriously, I never met a Sig I didn't like.

Personally, I think it is too big a gun for the 40 S&W cartridge. If it was a 45 or 10 mm it would make a decent service pistol. Unless your looking for some kind race gun for speed shooting.

Well, I'm updating this thread because I got my Delta Gold Cup back from the 'smith. Unfortunately it hasn't been a pleasant experience. First problem I had was that the 'smith's phone was disconnected for non-payment, and I wasn't able to get in touch with him. I finally just drove to his shop and found him home. He said he had been in the hospital, but that my pistol was finished. I paid him the balance due and took possession of the gun and returned home. The first thing I noticed was that the safety wasn't properly fit, it worked, but wouldn't completely lock the the slide. I had supplied him with two barrels, one in 40 S&W, and one in 10mm. It had the 40 barrel in it and I changed to the 10mm barrel and took it to the range. I fired about 30 rounds through it and started having problems with the slide locking into battery so hard I couldn't manually retract it. I tried to call Don Gabor, the 'smith, but his phone was still disconnected. I disassembled it and it seemed that the link was too long so I relieved the hole in the link enough to relieve the binding of the slide. I also spent the time to fit the safety. I took the gun back to the range and fired it again, this time the front sight came loose, and a close examination showed that the dove tail had been improperly cut. I returned home and tried to tighten the dove tail by staking the bottom of the dovetail to raise some metal and re-installing the sight. I also found out that the smith had never installed the roll pin that locks the sight in place, and that the hole in the slide for the pin was drilled off center. I decided to shoot the gun again and at that time the sight came loose again and the slide started locking up again. I also found out that the barrel had never been throated and it was chewing up my brass. I tried to fire a few rounds I had clipped and then the slide completely locked up about half way out of battery. I returned home and had to drive the slide off the gun with a brass hammer. Examination showed that the link pin had sheared completely into three pieces. I replaced the link and pin with the ones from the old factory barrel and did some serious studying on the problem and finally figured out that the barrel bottom feet had never been fitted to the slide stop. This was putting all the strain of the slide returning to battery on the link and it of course failed. Still not being able to call Don Gabor, I realized I might as well finish the pistol myself as I seemed to be a better craftsman than Don. I peened the edges of the dovetail where it would be covered by the sight blade and re-installed the sight, this time with red Locktite. That seems to have solved that problem. I fitted the barrel feet and throated the barrel, I also had to fit the grip safety, and modify the sear spring as it had been bent so strangely it was hanging up the magazines and they wouldn't drop free. I also had to fit the thick flange bushing that was supposed the be fitted to the 10mm barrel. I found it in with the old parts and Don seemed to have used the thin flange that came with the barrel. Happily, I took the gun to the range last night and shot a round of bulls eye with it and it functioned perfectly and seems to be quite accurate. By the way, the load I have been shooting is a 175 gr SWC over 5 gr of 231, about a 900 fps load. Not what you would consider a fire breathing 10mm load. I guess the lesson to be learned here is to do a lot of research on a gunsmith BEFORE you give him the gun. Just FYI, Jerry Kuhnhausen's book on smithing the 45 auto is excellent.

I love the idea. I just got my Delta Gold Cup back from the gunsmith and I've been thinking of picking up one of those carbine uppers that use the 1911 lower frame for the fire control. I have an old 45 I can use for the lower, and it will take my Delta mags. But, I would love to have an ar upper in 10mm, I've been a fan of the cartridge since it came out.

***SOLD*** RAT 3 knife? Tan sheath and Tan handle, Black Blade.
SWshooter replied to TacBlade's topic in For Sale or Trade
If you've killed 3 rats with it, it must be a pretty decent knife. I think I'd keep it, if I wuz you. -
Absolutely great butt-kickin' fight scenes. This is destined to be a real classic MA movie.

Parenthood can be so enlightening of the advancement of human evolution <thumbsup>

Dents are usually caused by the brass striking either the edge of the receiver opening, or the brass deflector. They usually don't cause any problems. The sizer will iron alot of it out, and firing pressure will take care of the rest. Of course you'll get a new dent when you fire it. Changing the buffer spring, extractor, extractor spring, or ejector spring may change the ejection pattern. I usually find that guns that really throw the brass into the next zip code, usually dent it too. Too light an operating spring (main spring, buffer spring) is usually the culprit in too forcefull ejection.

If I'm carrying a single stack gun, I like to carry a a double mag carrier in my left rear pocket. The mags are shorter than the pocket, so they are concealed, the sharp edges don't wear a hole in my side, and it's easily removed if I have to enter a "forbidden zone". I haven't come up with a really good way to carry double stack mags. I usually carry one in my jacket pocket.

Welcome, I also consider myself an HK-91 fan. Absolute reliability and robust design, a hard combination to beat!

Gee, one year in prison for an armed robbery, they oughta put the judge in prison for " 10-20" for terminal stupidity. One single 20 year sentence in a federal pen for possession of a firearm as a felon would have saved those officers lives.

You can put a Lock-N-Load adapter in the RCBS press, and I recommend it, I have one in mine. However, if I was starting from scratch, I would pick the Hornady press. They way it's angled makes it easier to feed, if you don't mind feeding with your left hand, and operating the press with your right. Personally, I like to feed with my right, and operate the press with my left. I am right handed and I have a lot more coordination in my right hand than left. After all, pulling a press handle is a gross motor skill and you ought to be able to do it left handed pretty easily. If you are planning on loading a lot of ammo, as in thousands of rounds a year, in few calibers, look at Dillon. More money to start with, but a much higher volume press.

Prayers for IMPD (Indy) officer shot

Kind'a makes you wonder doesn't it ? Every time there's a gun control push the media is suddenly loaded with shooting incidents. Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. -
If it won't duplicate at least 7.62x39 ballistics it won't go far. If you were a spec ops guy planning a mission, would you use an odd-ball cartridge that screams I AM AN AMERICAN every place you leave an empty, or shoot an AK round that you can resupply from any dead terr. I like the idea, for an upgrade to the 556, and wonder why it took so long to figure out. Lets see, which would be the better new cartridge, an obsolete case head diameter with a never before used bullet diameter that requires a new bolt and magazines, or neck up the existing cartridge to the most common military caliber requiring nothing but a barrel change? Duh!

Geez, I wish you wouldn't post pictures like that, I'm on diet and I get cravings!!!

Pic Rail/handguard question...
SWshooter replied to GSPKurt's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Like I said, if it's the standard DPMS two-piece float tube you will get a lot better service with any three piece unit.
