If it's actual issue gear, you would be breaking the law by receiving stolen property of the US government.

What company will allow me to use a preban .308 magazine?
specopsscout replied to 6shootr's topic in Building a .308AR
The ArmaLite AR10s utilized proprietary conversion kits on preban M1A magazines. As I understand it, they now offer lowers for either the mainstream mags, or the original modified M1A mags. -
What he said...I bought a bunch of different colors from TAD and have them in all my boots...

Forword assist or no forward assist

Better to have and not need then need and not have... Personally, I wouldn't buy an AR, 10 pattern or otherwise, without one...After fourteen years in the military split between the Corps and Army, and another eighteen as a LEO, the last twelve years with ARs, the last ten as a LE Firearms Instructor, I've found that a great many things beside improperly sized ammunition can cause a rifle to bobble; like dust, dirt, fouling, limited mobility, tight spaces, weak users, and even a lack of lubrication after amphibious stuff, severe rain, poor maintenance(or a combination) can cause the BCG to hang up just enough to avoid going fully into battery. Without a FA, your options are to either try and push on the side of the BCG with limited access and leverage through the ejection port, or cycle another round and hope it doesn't hang up a second time...With a FA, tap and go...As in all things, YMMV... -

Very nice Brother. Now quit screwing around and give us a report after you bust some caps ;) -
Hey Brother, I cut my teeth on Harris Bipods. Compared to those, it's slower to deploy, adjust and collapse, and unlike my Podlock equipped versions, it can't be leveled and locked on the level. It's also significantly more expensive then a Harris with a Podlock. The feet are hard plastic, so unlike the Harris, when you are on a hard surface, you can't really preload it, as the feet just slide compared to the rubber feet on the Harris. By comparison, the feet slide, so the recoil is different, and I don't really get any bipod hop. Now with all that said, it might sound like I don't like the bipod, but that's the thing. I still really like this bipod. It feels hell for stout. The same thing that causes it to be slow, the fact that it locks open and closed, also ensures there is no inadvertent leg collapse like can happen with a Harris, nor do you need to worry about hooking the leg on something and deploying it inadvertently during movement or on a stalk. I can also rest the forward folded legs on something and support the front of the rifle that way, offering me all that added forward real estate to support the rifle, like having and extended forearm. Since the bipod locks in that position, it feels very stable. I also like the way they used the urethane bushings to allow for movement to level and pan, but still offer steady support. When open, it has a wider foot print and it feels more stable when shooting off of it compared to the smaller Harris. So, while it's very different then a Harris, I really like the feel of it. I hope this helps. <thumbsup> Respectfully, Harry

I can't have a collapsible stock in Jersey, either. I had initially planned to replace the factory EMod when I bought my POF, as I never really cared for how they looked. After getting it in hand, my opinion changed completely, so I kept the stock and just pinned it. It's worked out well for me, and was pretty easy to pin.

Hey Matt, Glad to help Brother. <thumbsup> Hey SS, That sounds like excellent customer service. What was the "MINOR issue" with the scope ring that required it's exchange? Respectfully, Harry PS Since the introduction of the IOR line, 35mm isn't too extreme to replace. You won't find them in the local outfitters ring line up yet, but they are available from a few reputable makers. Badger Ordnance, the old standby, offers them. US Optics and Seekins makes very nice rings in 35mm, but they might be a bit pricey for your application. TPS also makes them in that size, and they are generally of very good quality and the prices more reasonable. IOR actually started including TPS rings into their line up, renamed to VTac rings. -

Hey Bro, I'll look forward to your long term experience with it. Run some box tests, try it in different light, give your rifle a bounce test and see if it holds zero. Leopards don't normally change their spots, but anything is possible and they've been on the market long enough, that maybe they've decided to get their act together. Sometimes, rarely, but sometimes, folks actually listen to the criticism and improve...time will tell... Respectfully, Harry -
Hey Bro, I've been thinking of picking one of those up, myself. My new POF P308 Recon has been running well without it, but I am starting to see that small wear mark in the upper receiver from the cam pin. I've been told the wear is self limiting, but I might pick one up just for giggles. I'd be really surprised to learn the cam pin had any effect on the bolt lock...sounds more like it might be a magazine spring issue... Respectfully, Harry

Thanks, Brother. It only took about a year to build ;) ...the first time ??? . Then another four months with a second smith, to have it fixed since the first big name smith who built it, sent it out to me, having only rough cut the chamber :o ...Yeah ::) ...

Hey Bro, To be honest your choices are more like an apples and oranges type of argument. Two different tools for two different tasks... The FN SPR will definitely reach out farther, if getting on the back side of the ballistic curve is really your priority, as you've stated. It will shoot farther, and also carry more velocity down range, meaning more energy on target, less wind drift and a larger margin for error in range estimation. My long range .308 has a 26" Kreiger on it for those reasons among others...An 18" tube will make it to the one grand mark which is still less then the FN, but at that range, you'll have a much more looping trajectory and wind will have a greater impact, as well... So, if precision shooting at extended range is your primary concern, I'd rock the FN. Just understand that your rate of fire will be less, as will your weapon's capacity. The weapon's longer length will mean that moving through rough/ thick terrain can be a bit more difficult, and may very slightly impact finding that perfect firing point, as you'll require a little more room. It won't double as a battle rifle by pulling the scope, or swapping to a red dot, like the SASS... Like I said, different tools for different tasks. I hope this helps... Respectfully, Harry

Hey Brother, I read your screen name, as well as your aforementioned qualifications; you've made it a point to restate it in near every post you've made. Thanks for your LEO service. Here's a quick snippet of mine; 14 years Marine Corps and Army Veteran, including six years as a Scout; 18 years state LEO; current Lieutenant ranking, including former SWAT Team Leader, current Admin on a Sniper web site with about six years in that position, ect. I'm familiar with their optics, and have handled one, after one of my Cops unknowingly took advice from a web site, and bought into the hype that is Dark Ops. The glass was not of good quality. Fish eye and clouding was evident. Eye relief was crappy. The construction was poor. The range of travel was poor. It didn't track correctly. It changed zero with very minimal abuse. The advertising listed the scope line as being "military overruns", but none use Dark Ops to my knowledge. They refused to answer questions, quoting the often noted "classified" or "contractual" BS covers. They offered their top of the line day optic for 7 grand(As in two plus times the cost of a S&B). They use the standard low end optic trick of big numbers in power and objective to help draw the uninformed into thinking they are something special...They are reported to have come on line not long after Hakko dumped a number of spare parts looking strikingly the same. They have previously invested a great deal of money into advertising campaigns in several gun rags. Money is a finite item. If you are selling something and soak most of your finite resources into full color full page ad space using terms like "clandestine target elimination" and showing well over the top tactically kitted models, how much of those resources are left, going into the product. My Cop paid about four hundred for his with shipping, and it was by my estimation, too much....My personal experience with the line is consistent with other shooters impressions discussed in several locations throughout the web. Customer service informed him that as his scope was a "military overrun" model, they would not refund, nor replace the optic... Comparing it's future to the Nightforce line is like saying the Yugo was destined for greatness, because Corvettes sell so well...My Philosophy professor would have called that a fallacy of logic. I'm glad you like your scope Bro, but something from the Sightron line, the Super Sniper, or Super Sniper variable, would all have been better choices in that price range and in all cases gotten you much more scope for a lower or similar price. Respectfully, Harry PS Nice pictures... -

I had a long reply to this thread typed out about the pitfalls of dealing with junk scopes and mall ninja marketing, but decided to simply respond more succinctly with a... "Uhh...no." -
I wanted something of quality manufacture, small, unobtrusive and low so that they wouldn't interfere with whatever day optic I had mounted. I also wanted sights that were actually functionally adjustable for various ranges when I felt like playing with irons. These fit the bill to a tee...
