  1. Are you saying the bolt won't unlock ?
  2. VooDoo crossbow bolts are nice & different , can't wait to try them . I have to post some photos .
  3. Its not the point or Polymer tip , I think the bullets shape is letting it wedge in there. Not sure exactly what part of the bullet or how much , but it gets stuck good some times when I tried the different seating stems . I have to email Barnes .
  4. That's what he said . He also said, its because they don't use a side safety, so the can raise the thumb platform . I'm sure he has one or can have one made for an AR 15. Or a Dremel tool would make short work of it .
  5. A gunsmith is always required to proper head space a Bolt ,its printed any where you buy a barrel for a build .Some don't need it , well most & a few will. The fact that this BCG worked in a broken in firearm , shows nothing of the condition of the other barrel . Its not the barrel or upper receiver you are trying to fit it to. Since this NIB stuff is fairly new & mostly works, but new manufacturers popping up all over to fill voids , there are going to be growing pains & with all manufactured goods , some won't be exactly right , just the way it is . Sounds like you took it to the right guy , also good ,as said , that you checked into some thing you thought was not right. Now ,bust some caps ! We await your range report.
  6. Geissele triggers would be a good one to look at . Barrel length all depends on what you want to use it for . I would not think twice about shooting 500 yards with my 16".
  7. There may be some AR 308 lower receivers that the back of the grip might need some slight altering (cosmetic ) , but hay, if you have to do a little work , its wood !
  8. I couldn't find any different loading data at the Barnes sight , so my load should be correct ,but its the compressed load that's causing the problem. I loaded a round with 39 gr. of WC 846 & had no problem loading the case. I put the original seating stem back in the 308 die & it worked , as you can se , with out a hitch , normal seating . Now the difference in load in the case of course is big , you can hardly see the WC 846 in the case at the angle of the camera shot , but the already compacted 45 gr. of IMR 4064 is clear . I'm , according to the Barnes reloading manual, a full grain under max for a 165-168 gr. bullet. This bullet is shaped different than there other TSX bullets ,according to there sight. I have used IMR 4064 quite a few times with a 308 cartridge. Just have to find a way to seat this bullet with IMR 4064. Going to email Barnes & see what they have to say.
  9. Welcome from another N. Fla. Shooter. I can say where I'm from , St.Johns co.. Looks like we might get some rain this weekend .
  10. Damn, NoFail , I can't get past your avatar, did you say some thing ?
  11. Those bullets stick on every one of the seating stems I tried , including a 270 seater. My 300BLK was the only one it wouldn't stick on , until I tried to seat the bullet to a proper depth for COL. I'm beginning to think its the compressed load of IMR 4064 . I'm going to check my charge & then I'm going to load one with WC 846 powder , that I normally use. And thanks Robocop , but I'm beginning to like disappointment & I haven't been able to load one round , with this bullet .
  12. Well , I'm going to put it on a 24" Ultra Match ,5.56 barreled AR 15 & will see service on targets & a varmint or two & most shots will be less than 200 yrds., but could go more . The rifle will see more targets here in FLa. ,but in Ohio , well , it could go much farther. I'm kinda leaning towards the Buckmaster because of the magnification .
  13. If it was neck tension , why would the Hornady bullet not have a problem ? The barnes bullet has to be wiggled out of the seating stem & I have loaded thousands of rounds with this die & never had a problem . I did use a Redding bushing sizing die , but have also used it before with out a hitch. This is my first loading of this bullet . I have loaded other Barnes TTSX bullets before with out a problem . Wonder if the bullet shape is different than a normal TTSX bullet, it is a different configuration ,from what they say . I'm going to try a different seating stem or two.
  14. This the difference between an AR 15 catch & an LR 308 catch. Make sure you have at least a 308 catch for your 308 build . The AR 10 catch is a little better, but the LR 308 one works a whole lot better than putting a AR 15 catch in there. With an AR 15 catch , it may not hold or catch the BCG at all. This is how it should look.
  15. Went to seat some of these bullets today & they stick in the seating stem & pull out of the case . WTF. Never had a bullet do that before . I even cleaned & lubed the seating stem , still doing it . It is a slightly compressed load of 45 gr. of IMR 4064. Seated a 168 gr. Hornady Match bullet , no problem .
  16. Wonder if they are the same , reads made in USA . I see a " C " or a " U " on the bolt .
  17. My Superior Spring ( Tubb's ) is also working good for me . I will be doing a comparison of springs later this year in a 308 , 16" bbl. ,when I get all the springs together .
  18. Reliability , expense , take your pick . Heavy buffers don't work in some AR rifles . Depends on a couple of factors . They have tested & this is what works . Now that doesn't mean you can't tweak them , to make them function better( reduce the pounding the components take ) or lessen recoil.
  19. Commie's, just keep chipping away. I'm sure that kind of rumor( truth or not ) will start the buying spree all over again.
  20. I became more interested in these & all scopes now . I have some interesting data from the manufacturer & we can figure out what it means as a buyer. Eye Relief, now this can make or break a scope , IMO . Some scopes/magnification/size , just don't work on some firearms. Since we are talking about Nikon scopes , I have a few & can compare in real life usage in the field, as can others here. Stat's, all @ 100 yds. 3x9x40 BM 6x18x40 BM 2.5x10x42 M 4x16x42 M 11.9-35.7 ft. 5.92-16.1 ft. 10.1-40.3 ft. 6.3-25.2 ft. I know, because of magnification , Stat's will be different , the key is , what do I need & what do I want for what I'm going to use it for . I can already see that a high magnification ,IMO , will pin point your target & aiming point with more precision. Is that what I want for most hunting situations or for paper punching/match type usage. I've never looked at scope Stat's so much looking to buy a scope & I have more Stat's to think about , like weight. next.
  21. Ya, I hear you , I just paid $ 10 a piece for those hot shot crossbow bolts . I still have to pick out a broad head .
  22. Interesting discussion . I also think I liked my 3x9x40 Buckmaster hunting, than I did my 2.5x10x42 Monarch, I still killed a nice 10 pointer , but I too thought it went out out focus at the higher magnification . Funny , it didn't seem that way at the range . There could be a lot of reasons for that , other than the scope or how the scope is made.
  23. Nice . Just remember we need a full report with photo's. I just need a good fix of BCG porn. I may cancel my back order for this one.
  24. I would like to buy both ,but not at the same time ,I'm about to retire & am going to tighten up on spending for a while , so one will do for now . I have a Monarch 2.5x10x 42 & hunted with it on my slug gun this past year & it is built more robustly than the 3x9x40 Buckmaster. I going to put the scope of choice on my 24" barreled 5.56, which has a OLY, Ultra match barrel . Does that change any thing to anyone. I am leaning toward the Monarch, but like the adj. range & power of the Buckmaster.
  25. I have a early CMMG lower with a billet SI Defense upper & I have had some minor issues , one of which is, won't work right with Magpul 308 mags . Works fine with any metal mag. , just that tolerance stacking can effect things when there are no standards , like with AR 15's . I looked at mine & it is also a MK 3 (one of the first 270, by the looks of your ser.# ), nice lower . If I was going to do it again I would put a Tactical Machining upper , not that I don't like the SI Defense upper, its well made & with that come a little more weight & we all know these AR 308's are on the heavy side. There are so many out there now , you have all kinds of choices.
