I really like the one I put in my AR-15, so I plan to use the ATC SR Gold trigger. Last update I got from Brownells was that they should be available by mid Feb.
-
Got my scope and mount in the mail, so now all I need is the trigger from Brownells and I'll be able to test it out at the range.

I got my Trijicon Accupoint in the mail yesterday. I'm sure those of you with high end optics will not be impressed but I took it out of the box, and in the house with no lights on and the shades down, just ambient light, the red triangle on this thing was brighter than any battery powered red dot I've ever used, It's amazing, I don't know how they manage to gather enough light to do it. I think this thing is going to be a big help with the close shot's, not so sure about the long range with only 4X magnification.

I spoke to a small (I think) company today that has been involved with the 300AAC for a while and the guy I spoke to told me that he had reports from some of his competition shooting customers that they were making major power factor shooting 155 gr bullets from 18" barrels. He told me that he would try to get load and performance data for me, and even said he'd try to do some testing himself using an 18" barrel. If I get any useful information from him I'll pass it along.

I was so impressed with the lower I failed to notice the mag. I guess I'm not likely to be accused of being observant.

Barrel is a Rock creek blank that was chambered, finished and wrapped by Advanced Barrel systems. The Titanium comp is also their design, barrel is 18" and weighs the same as my fluted 14.5" Noveske 7.62 barrel. It looks gorgeous and once the weather breaks and our range isn't snow bound I hope to finally get to try it out. It may take a while but once I've shot it I'll post my impressions.

I've got an extra LaRue LT110 Eotech riser, and since I only have one Eotech these days and already have it on a riser I have no need for this one. The riser is most useful for raising the Eotech when using a piggyback Eotech 3X magnifier of if you like your BUIS to cowitness in the bottom of the sight. I believe LaRue gets $120 new. asking $75 plus shipping.

Thanks for the kind words Madhouse. -
From the looks of the back of the lower, It appears that unless they offer their own matching upper, it's an Armalite type upper. May not take the p mags.
-
Nice looking lower, and it appears to have the right side bolt release like the POF's. Should be a good foundation for a custom build. Do you know if they're going to offer a matching upper? I may have to come up with a reason for another .308 build.

Now that I've got the optic for my carbine on order, I've decided to sell some other items to try to finance the optic for my Kaiser build. I have a brend new stripped DPMS 308 upper that I believe is the one that is the right height to match up to the standard rails from Daniel befense and others, The price I see from JSE is $160 I'm asking $110 plus shipping, I also still have the 18" stainless barrel rhat I bought from Fulton for $355 and the stainless lo pro gas block I got from PRI for $69 I'll also throw in the A2 flash hider. I'm asking $300 plus shipping for those parts. I will try to post some pics later in the week, I also may have some other stuff, need to take inventory. -
Having a machinist in the family is even better than being one, all you have to do is drop off the parts, give him your instructions, go have a beer, and pick up the finished parts later, and with no chips to clean up. I WISH I knew a machinist.

Can't wait to see the finished product, Good luck with it.

If he can make 320 power factor I'll be shooting my MA TEN carbine against him in the matches. I know in the real world this round won't do what a .308 NATO rd can , but it should be interesting to see how he does with an AR-15 platform against the bigger, heavier guns, (meaning me)

Finished with my Build!!! Just a few pics for you!!!

Tacblade, did you use the low mass BCG from JP? If so how does it feel compared to a standard weight? -
According to my friend there's a lot of industry support behind this one and there's already factory ammo and complete AR's being offered in it. He tells me that it's the new Hot thing. Of course that means nothing if it doesn't get picked up by the military or at least become popular with the civilian market. I guess time will tell. The best part for me is that he's already ordered all the components along with dies, bullets, and powder for load development, so I get to let him do all the work and then I get to try it out and decide for myself if I like it. It certainly sounds like an inexpensive way to get to try a new cartridge. If your already shooting AR .223 and AR .308 all you need to buy is the barrel and suitable powder. If you don't like it, sell the barrel/powder and use everything else for you AR-15 and AR-308 guns.

I've got a friend thats building an AR 15 in the new 300 AAC Blackout cal. (7.62 x 35). He's telling me that this is going to be the new big cartridge. Apparently it shoots a .308 bullet from an AR 15 platform, and the great thing about it is that, unlike the 6.8 SPC, it uses a unmodified AR-15 BCG and unmodified 5.56 AR mags. THe only proprietary part is the barrel. You can even use necked up .223 brass to load for it. Now, it's not intended to compete with 7.62 x 51 ,it's more like a better option to a 7.62 x 39 in an AR platform. I'm going to have to watch this one.
-
Sure looks the same to me. I'd bet that if it's not made by American Defense, whoever did make it took the measurments directly from an American Defense Recon mount. The specs even match the AD mount.
-
I just ordered the American Defense Recon-X quick release mount for the TR-24 scope. Has anyone tried it or had any experience with the American defense mounts?
-
yeah, it's a pretty neat toy but I think that it was really designed to be a short barreled FA subgun, which unfortunately is not an option where I live. I have a friend with a .45 ACP AR which, I think is a better option if your stuck with the long barrel. The nice thing about the 45 AR is that all of the AR 15 accessories can be utilized, not to mention that the ergonomics of the AR are better. Another advantage is that if you train with an AR 15, everything carries over to the AR 45 and you don't have to learn a new operating system. I'm thinking that I want to build one this season.

I'm getting dents in my case necks during ejection?
Jgun replied to TacBlade's topic in General Discussion
Survival shop, I think your point about it being a military weapon where reloading is not a consideration is accurate. I think that it's designed to be 100% reliable and what happens to the case during ejection is not important. I have never, ever had a failure to feed or eject with it, and it throws the brass a mile. I might be able to fine tune it if I put the time in, but I don't wish to do anything other than changing parts to it and besides, now that I'm putting these 7.62 ARs together, I think it will most likely be collecting dust in the safe while I choose to shoot them instead. -
I can understand your sentemental attachment. I had a chance to buy a carry handle Colt AR back in the 80's for next to nothing and passed on it. I regret that decision to this day. It would probably be more valuable than any of the ones I've put together since, certainly more collectable.
