  1. It is extremly probable that my bbl was reamed with a different reamer. many contractors "gang mill" a batch of barrels, and some ream the chamber body with a body reamer, then finish chambering with a "pull-through" reamer and test bolt to set the headespace. As my friend the FBI sientist says. " All I can say, with sientific certiny is that this works for me". LOL!!!!!!( the forward was mildly para-phrased,,,,LOL!! Respectfully Terry
  2. I'd say yes. I'v recieved a lot of good info from this site. Respectfully Terry
  3. Bought the barrel from a dpms dealer,,,,,,,,miked things,,,,,,,,,,,fit the RR with no changes. Actually,,,,,,,headspace was a little tight, and had to "kiss" the chamber. The only "problem" i'v had is getting enough gas to cycle the auction. The last time out,,,,,,with everything "wet" with lube,,,,,,it shot 5'8" groups, and cycled fine. Respectfully Terry
  4. I miked things out, and installed a dpms .260 rem barrel on my rr lar8. Other than getting enough gas through to function,,,it shoots great! Respectfully Terry
  5. I'v got a RRA LAR8 with a dpms 20" bbl. in 260 rem Shoots under a half inch at 100 yds. Sure dose'nt need a break. Terry
  6. For me, the biggest problem is lack of parts interchangebilty. Terry
  7. I'v waisted a lot less meat with the 338, an, with a marginal shot,,,,,,it just might make the difference. i live in sw Colorado, and have taken close to 10 elk with a 260 rem, but feel that there is a definate spot for the bigger guns. My current builds are a 260 in a RRlar8, followed by the 338. and a 300blackout for the ar15. I'm also very searsiousy considering necking the 6.8 to 30.and, maybe, a 6.5/223. Respectfully Terry
  8. I think the same thing will happen as did on y2k,,,,,,,,,,,nothing!@!!! Terry
  9. I built a 338/308 other wise known as the 338 federal light bolt gun for a customer in about '82. it worked great on a 300# wild boar. Recoil was supriselngy light. As soon as I get my 260 rem done, on a RRA lar8. I'm building a 338. It should work real well on the local elk. Respectfully Terry
  10. The 6.5 has been used all over Europe as a long range and sniper gun. The BC on the cal are really high, and that means more retained velocity at long range. I am currently building my AR in .260 rem. The snipers and really long range guys are going to the 338 and 50's because nothing beats mass for penitration and killing power. The problem with bc is the mfg has to have a reason to produce the bullet. That hasn't happened with the 270. Respectfully Terry
  11. OK,,,,,,,,I spray-oiled everything,,,,it was literally dripping! 5 shots,,,,,everything feed ,cycled, and fired!!!!! 5/8" group from ammo literally dripping........ Goes aginst everything I have learned as a 'smith in the last 40 years,,,,,,,,but it worked! Thanks Terry
  12. A. "what" measurments do I need to take? Where, and how? B. No factory ammo in town in 260 rem, will have to order a box. C. Cal is 260 rem. D. ctgs feed fine from the mag, when operated manuelly. E. I will really wet her down, and give it a try. F. the chamber was "slightly" tight on the stripped bolt with the go gague. Thanks for the help Respectfully Terry
  13. "How" do I check the GB? Respectfully Terry
  14. I'v got a new RR lar8, everything RR except the BBL. BBl is by dpms. Shoots fine, except the bolt does not go far enough back to pick up the next round, or lock the bolt back on a empty mag. load is 140g hornady a-max with a max load of 45 g of rl19. Please, some help? Respectfully Terry
  15. OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RR is offically one of the "good guys" in my book! 10 days after they said two weeks,,,,,,,I had my bolt and carrier! Dissambled the bolt, and checked the headspace,,,,,,,its a little "tight" on the go gauge,,,,,,ant took it out and shot it yesterday! Some "junk" reloads with some old speer 120's got me sighted in,,,then some "good" hornady 123's and groups about 1.5 inches. Got to load some of thee "new" hornady 10 A-maxes,,,and see how it really does! OH! Scope was one of the mark 4 leupolds in 6,5-20........really "bright" scope! respectfullu Terry
  16. A standard 260 rem. good for Elk or long range ( for me 500-600yds) . Terry
  17. Thanks for the welcome, and information on differences between LAR8, and AR10. Although I'v been a smith for over 40 years, I'm just getting into "black guns". LOL!! I'll know if they are messing with me in a couple of weeks. Thanks. Respectfully Terry
  18. At the end of July, my wife ordered a complete ar10 , less barrell , from RR. A week later we got ALL the parts except the bolt and carrier. We were told the were on back order, and would ship in two weeks. My dealer called several times, and got the back order story. My wife called today, and they said they had recieved an order of bolts and carries and we should have them within two weeks. We'll let you know.
