  1. Yep! the red dot moving can really tell you how "tight" your sight picture is!! T.
  2. I knew when I was shooting that there was a difference. Only a competition timer showed the real results. Perhaps Char may be helped by the laser. Depends a lot on experience. Still, for me,,,,,,,that half second could mean the difference between life or death. Respectfully Terry
  3. I tried a lazer on my Kimber ultra carry. Slowed me down by a half a second over point and shoot. Same accuracy, just slowed me down waiting for the eyes to catch the red light. respectfully Terry
  4. Its possible, with your rifle ,that the 1.760 cases are starting to run into the "end" of the chamber. Just a possibility, rember. Respectfully Terry
  5. Anyone see the new Browning 1911 in 22lr? About 3/4 size, and neat!!! Got one on lay-a -way at the local gun shop. Terry
  6. First off, ALL mag springs are compressed to start with. Second, I have some 7 rd genuine Colt mags that were loaded with mil ball, WCC71, to be exact, that were loaded in the mid 80's. Took a half dozen out last week to "play" with. No ftf or ftf, and accuracy was just fine. Minute of Zombie at a 100 yds, standing, two handed. Respectfully Terry
  7. Its been my experience, over the last 20 years of hunting Colorado Elk and deer, that the Federal Premium with 165gr Nosler particans are some of the best factory loads out there. Respectfully Terry
  8. When you cut the threads for the barrel extinsion and chamber the bbl, or mill an 80% lower, your building something,,,,,,,everything else is parts assembly Just my two cents Terry
  9. It appears to me that the front of your bolt is rubbing the back of the bbl! The rear appears that not all of the lugs are locking properly. I would reccommend having your gunsmith check it out. And, while your at it, have him check the headspace. As a professional gunsmith, i am , perhaps, more carefull of headspace than others. But, when things are made to + and - tollerences, it is possible to have all the tollerences stack up to create a heck of a problem. Resprctfully Terry
  10. My dpms 260 rem bbl was so tight I had to use a reamer and "kiss" the chamber. I would suggest you have your gunsmith take a chamber cast, and, if needed, kiss the chamber. Respectfully. Terry
  11. Apprasials are based almost soley on the exterior condition of the gun. Re-finished weapons are valued the same as a weapon having NO finish at all. With a few minor exceptions. A 98% weapon will be worth two or three or more times as much as a 80% gun. Rarity of caliber can also have a major effect on value. A Colt SSA in 44-40 is worth almost double a std. 45 Colt. Fladermans Guide to Antique Arms is one of the best books on realitive value. Most books on value are on the market to soley sell books. Respectfully Terry
  12. Put 100-200 rounds through it befor you decide to do anything. Thats my professional reccomendation, and I'm sticking to it!!!!LOL!!!! Respectfully Terry
  13. GI 1911's were made by Colt, North American Arms co.. Springfield Armory, Reminton-UMC Singer MFG( sewing machine co,) Union Switch and signal, Remington Rand, Ithaca gun Co. and one or two others. All parts, from all mfgs interchange, because they were made to Colt specs and used Colt gagues. Respectfully Terry
  14. Interesting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the 1911 colt. The gun the military said was "oboslete". 101 years young, and made by more mfgs than ever!!!!!! Including such people as Sig!!!!!!!! I wonder how many generals , who made the change to the "GREAT" Beretta 92 could be made to eat thier stars, for giving in to NATO pressure? I wonder how many lives could have been saved if our military had stayed with the "oboslete" 1911, and not been pussys and gone with the 92? Not so respectfully Terry PS< thats a really nice looking gun!!!!!!
  15. According to the lit. I have, the nut should be tightened to 30-80 foot pounds. measured with a toqure wrench. After 10 builds, I find most of my guns shoot most accuratley at @50FP. So, I tighten to 50. and just grind/mill for the gas tube, Respectfully Terry
  16. Personally, Iv always liked the Sig. next to my 1911, that is.LOL!!! i bought the frist 220 to come into the states from Dean Grenell, the gun wrighter. He's dead now, but was fun to hang with! Dean was the last of the pro-writers to get it from Sig, and he bought it from them. Then He sold it to my knife making buddy, B0b Loveless, and Bob traded it to me. I shot it for a while, then sold it to a friend, who went to work for the FBI. He still has it, and the hasn't been a single failure of any kind in the last 30 years. Funny, I almost bought a used one two weeks ago. By the time I decided, the shop that had it had sold it.LOL!!!! Respectfully Terry
  17. Since I just built the two 30 HRT's this year, My wife and I haven't taken any deer, yet! Oct. will soon be here, and with it, deer season! Based on my experience with the rimmed 30 Herrett and deer, 25.5 gr of Rl 7 with a 125gr Nosler , Things should be just fine! That load chronos at just over 2,000 fps from a 15" Contender. I have a spot that I sit on, the range is 117yds, that I shot 4 deer in 5 years off of. They all fell withen a 6' circle of one another..LOL!! As a long time reloader, I like the fact that I don't have to load it pedal to the metal to get the preformence I want. To me, the 30 HRT is a vastly under utalised, and under prometed Ctg. Respectfully Terry
  18. I could get more powder in, but why? 2,600 with the 125 was my goal, and when I reached it, I quit. Next is a 150 old style nosler. I hope to get 2.300-2,400FPS. The 308 (7.62X51) was designed for a 150 at 2,700 . Just how fast do you think a smaller capacity case can go?LOL!!! I can almost guarantee that your 300 BLK is operating at higher pressure than my 30 HRT. LOL!!! New powders developed since the 80's have helped the smaller cases really reach full potential. Respectfully Terry
  19. My 30HRT's are loaded to rifle pressures, not the pistol pressures of the 30 Herrett. As such, they are signifacntly over what "the book" call for. That being said, the load I'm currently using pushes the 125ge Nosler A-Max hunting bullett right at 2,600 fps, and is safe in both my wife's gun, and in mine. I reloaded the same cases with this hot load over 7 times, each. The 30 HRT uses standard 6.8 bolts and mags, and mag capacity is the same as the 6.8. IE, 10 rds in a 10rd mag, 20 rds in a 20 rd mag. To me, its the "super" ctg for the ar15. Respectfully Terry Added: This load is several hundred feet per second faster than my "most accurate" load. It shoots 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 groups. I don't care. Its a hunting gun, not a "range princess". T.
  20. +1 for team H!!!!! My wife and I both have 3hrt's, and they are GREAT!!!! Terry
  21. Especially those little 1/16" punches that fit most of the AR pins....LOL!! Terry
  22. I guess I;m just dumb. I thought that almost everybody that did AR's had roll pin punches and holders....... Terry

    Raw material

I fired a SS 50bmg, ONCE! it weighed @25#. Last I heard, the 1,000, 50 bmg guys had two classes. under 35#, and over 50. Respectfully Terry
  24. My wife has Ar's in 6.5 Grendel, 223, 6.8spc, and a 30 hrt. Also, she loves my RRA lar8 in 260 rem. Respectfully Terry
